Well that kinda backfired ... let's try to stay on topic here guys.
Rucklo: So wait ... if I've been reading all this right, some of the judges are also contestants? That should not be allowed. I mean, someone could just discreetly judge someone else's submission poorly just so theirs will do better. I understand that you're doing the multi-judging system where a song will be judged by X number of judges, but still ... having some of the contestants as judges just isn't right.
I'm NOT accusing anyone of anything here, I am just saying that the possibility exists for something like that to happen. I know our community is small and that we all think that we're on the level, but it doesn't always work out that way.
Also Rucklo, I think contestants should be able to make notes on their songs that would be passed onto the judges about their songs, notes that contain background, special info, story, context, etc. behind the song. So as an example, notes I would make on my song are:
Valiant was one of the first songs I wrote. It was actually inspired by ParagonX9's Defcon Zero, but it almost immediately took on a life of its own. Though it was one of the first melodies I ever composed, it is still one of my favorites today. I was aiming to create sort of a fusion 16-Bit/Modern-Day video game song. The style is very heavily 16-Bit, but you will hear lots of instruments in there that are not traditional 16-Bit sounds. Also, I wanted to simulate the environment of a vintage analog video game console, and so I added lots of tape compression to many elements of the song. The way the song sounds muffled is intentional and not an issue with quality/mp3-compression, so please do not dock points there as it was intended to sound that way. All in all, the song is a way for me to express my video game roots, which really began with the 16-Bit consoles of the day; Genesis, Super Famicom, etc.
I like to go overboard. ; ) Anyways, these are just some suggestions. Obviously, I have no right to make any because of the fact that I am coming into the competition literally in the last three days and because I've been gone for six months, so feel free to take or ignore any of them. This contest was a great idea, and the whole Sig. Pic prize thing is genius. it's nice to finally see someone taking a little action around here.
Sorry to overwhelm you Rucklo ... I know you're busy enough as it is, and I guess my essay-posts aren't much help. :P Good luck everyone with the contest!
