Response to Review Reponses, PMs, etc. 2006-06-21 12:31:48

I sent the following letter. Feel free to grab it and add your name on the site. It's better than the basic 'save mah net' they put as default.

Congress must preserve a free and open Internet. Please vote for enforceable network neutrality and keep tollbooths, gatekeepers, and discrimination off my Internet.

I am emailing you because I care deeply about the issue of net neutrality, and wholeheartedly hope that no person under the seats of the House or Senate is swayed into letting the lynchpin of tech driven nation fall into deep shambles by giving into corporate pushes.

This is perhaps, the only issue I have paid attention directly as a voter.

I want the internet, a place where millions work, and billions surf, to remain an unbiased source of info at my fingertips. If the law is passed where companies can be put in charge of controlling it, literally we will be cutting off millions of people from recieving info they want at the same speed they request and pay for.

More info can be provided at request, but I ask you to look into this and let people publically know where you stand, because this affects all of us, as Americans.

If the net becomes biased, then every time you or I surf, and do not go to corporate sites, we will be shoved into a slow zone and forced to wait regardless of what we as consumers paid for our service. This is unfair, and come election day will not stand before the American people as something to be swept under the rug.

I urge you with your powers granted by us, use them for the betterment of the people.

Help protect the internet.

God I hate the U.S. Whatever site pays them the most gets to be displayed! That pure shit. On a more friendler note, I think that the new review thing is a big improvement for flash artists. The E-mail improvement for the PM system is also great.

Good to see your supporting Net neutrality Tom.

Thanks for the info Tom Fulp

Ohh! That is clever, I like that feature a TON. What I used to do is have 2 browsers open, one for review, and one the actual page for my flash. This is actually a lot easier now. Thanks, good thinking =p

That's nice, I like having responds to my reviews ^^ and I like to give responses too!

Yeah, I've noticed the PM notification by PM.
Too bad it came after I had read and deleted them.

It's funny.

Adding header notifications of new PMs will possibly cause Database server issues. HOWEVER, email notifications won't.

Speaking as a web programmer.

That's good news , Tom ! I'm really glad you guys are finally tweaking the portal to make things easier for us , flash authors!

Also , I have a suggestion ... how about if you create a favorite list for audio musicians so we can add 'em to it and keep track of them more easily, huh?

We have a dedicate mailserver that can chug along sending out emails for hours after a nightly script runs. The header notifications however would be a real-time hit on the same database that is controlling all the other dynamic content across the site.

And to put it another way... The nightly script generates a list of a few thousand people who need notification emails.

The header file, on the other hand, is loaded millions of times per day.

That's true, I agree.
But let's imagine the Google's Adsense: they are on the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS web pages.
And have you noticed that the stats (on the google.com/adsense) don't refresh instantly?

Well, maybe you can make it like so - refresh the header notifications every few minutes, hours? Every half an hour?

And that wouldn't overload the database server.

Your are getting off point :)

Anyways, the Audio portal is a deprecated part of NG.
You can vote just once (even though it says 'Error - it looks like you have already voted on ___________ today!'). But there it is always today.

And...the banning system is bad. I didn't steal my loop but I got banned and so forth...

Agreed, that is something I think should be fixed...
Also, can I suggest something about the audio portal? I think that you should change the audio portal songs (when you open up the page it playes 1 of 2 paradox9x songs). They haven't been changed in years and they are also loud. I would say to either change them, make them a bit lower, or have no music at all. After going there 20000x looking for songs, the songs get pretty repetative...

One more thing that could be added is an edit button on the Alpha page. I find that when I submit an alpha, I mess something up, or upload a wrong picture. I think with an edit button, it will frustrate people a LOT less. =)

I'd love a feature that when one of your favourite artists submits a flash, you get an automatic PM that links you to that flash.

At 6/21/06 11:33 AM, TomFulp wrote: For the longest time now, responding to reviews has felt like too much of a detour. Artists have been required to access their account panel, visit their submissions panel, and choose to respond to reviews to particular submissions. The process also wasn't too self-explanatory, either; artists were required to click on the review summary line to respond.

This pet peeve has now been fixed! From now on, if an artist is logged in while reading reviews of his work (via the same page everyone else reads), he will have a link to "Respond" under each review. This means you can now respond to your reviews impulsively, rather than going through all the previous steps. We're hoping more artists will respond to their reviews, now that it is a more direct process.

Sweet, thanks Tom! I didn' actually think it was that hard to figure out, but if some retards did, at least they were stupid enough to make it so that you had to make a change to the website lol.

You could really go for a chocolate chip cookie right about now...

all the pm system needs is a noticifaction system.

even if its as simple as

if(messageInIncos>0){
make indoxButton red
}

Good idea.

That bill they're trying to pass sounds really fucked up.
Internet facism basically.

Notice how if certain groups in politics had their way we'd all be living in a society straight out of a George Orwell novel?

I was never really here.
