Yeah, the softbox method is a perfect complimentary to the "Account Options" menu.

No one ever PM's me, so I don't really care about it.
However, I think there should be a customizable contacts list. You know, of the people you PM the most.

We originally planned to have a SENT folder, but that got scrapped due to some DB concerns... It will potentially be revisited.

I agree that it would be cool to see if a message is READ, UNREAD, or REPLIED to.

We have always planned to have a header notification of new messages - so expect that to happen. Currently, the inbox button is a static image. In the site redesign, buttons like that are dynamic with dynamic text (to avoid loading tons of similar images), so the button itself would say "INBOX (3)"... That's the plan, at least. The reason why it wasn't part of the launch is that we are still working out the database implications of how we will keep people notified.

Also, James has prepped email notifications. Currently, users will receive one email a week to notify them of new PMs. This might change to be more frequent, but we want to avoid a Myspace scenario where you get 20 emails a day notifying you of NG PMs.

Speaking of e-mails, why can't we still have our e-mails displayed in the "Contact Author" button or profiles? What if the user I want to contact is an inactive one, and the only way I can contact them is through their e-mail?

How about a report spam button? Then, when someone reports a message as spam, the sender has one spam violation. If they get lets say 10, they loose PM privilages.

This would work well because a few days ago I got a message advertising a forum. I would have reported it as spam and I'm sure the tons of other people who got it would have also, and the sender would have gotten in trouble.

Yeah, how would they go through ALL the PM's sent daily?

It's hard enough modding the BBS, Flash submissions, and Audio submissions.

There is NO WAY you'll get anyone to monitor all of the PMs sent.

But then we would have to acquire PM mods, because obviously hooligans would take advantage of said spam button to make innocent users loose PM privilages on purpose. And no one wants anybody else to see their messages except for the person to whom they are sending the message to.

So all in all, not a very good idea.

Of all your ideas, I think the second one is the best.

Maybe when you go to account options, where it says inbox, have a black and gold mail box, with designs to match the layout. Plus a picture of the NG tank and have it say mail beside it. I would draw up something like that but I have no skill at all.

pm system is a good idea but I only have 6 messages... i guess its because i'm a female--I'm a Newgrounds taboo, lol.

cons: some noob says "WAID ISS GHEAY" and everyone pm spams him. FAST.

the contact authour button does use the pm system, newgrounds no longer shows email addresses which i think is a positive thing.
