CLUB INFO
...............................

General Rules for Requesters:
If you are planning on requesting reviews, please:
- Post a direct link to the submission(s) you want reviewed.
- Make no more than 3 requests within one week.
- Do us a favour and respond to our reviews.
- Be patient. Due to the points system, you may not see reviews until up to two weeks after you request.
- Do NOT request without posting a link.
- Do NOT just say "Review everything" or just link to your profile.
- Do NOT request reviews for the same submission more than once.

General Rules for New Reviewers:
If you are planning on completing requests, please do the following:
- Post in this thread to let us know you'd like to join.
- Understand the points system and keep track of your own score. You will only be added to the list if you post your own score within the first week.

Points:
**Please also keep track of your own points. If you see something missing, it's probably a mistake**
**To be on the list, you must make at least one review, posters only will not be counted**

5 points for a review on a requested movie/game
7 points for a review on a requested audio
+1 point for putting "Review Request Club" at the bottom of a requested review
3 points for posting at least once throughout the week
5 points for referring a new member (must mention you in first post)
7 points for reviewing all requests/recommendations for that week

Club updates
Each Sunday or Monday, Shanus or Haggard currently create a list of all the members, counting up their points, calculating various stats and posting a list of requested submissions. Assuming you review the submissions listed, you will get points for them on the following members' update, 6 or 7 days later.

On Thursday, perfect-insanity creates a list of all requests and recommendations made since the previous Thursday. This can be considered a 'preview' of the list that will accompany the following members' update on Sunday/Monday. The points for these are tallied 10 days later.

Requests made between the 'preview list' and the 'members' update' carry over to the next preview list. So you will always have over 9 days to finish the reviews. (Feel free to review submissions as soon as they are requested!)

FAQ
Should I link to the club in my sig?
There's no obligation to do so, but it's certainly appreciated. Remember that you can put a high number in place of the page number in the url and if that page doesn't exist yet, NG will take you to the latest page, whatever it is.

So if you link to: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/4834 48/999
then anyone following that link will always see the latest page.

I don't understand what recommendations are all about!
As mentioned under this section in each list, 'You may make a recommendation if you reviewed 100% of the previous weeks requests and recommendations. It should be over 3 days old and have under 50 reviews.'

As long as your name is on the last 'All requests completed' list, feel free to recommend something you've enjoyed from the portal.

You could use this to let us know about something you think is specially awesome, yet overlooked. If there aren't many game or movie requests, maybe you could make a recommendation so we have something to review.

Does the Review Request Club review stuff for non-NG stuff?
Short answer: no.

Long answer: Milinko used to include youtube requests in the list of requests, but the introduction of a points system didn't leave room for such things. You can request reviews here, but some of us may not have accounts on Myspace/Youtube/whatever or may simply be disinclined to review things outside NG. It wouldn't get nearly as much attention compared to if it were a NG submission.

I'd suggest putting songs on the AP, then making a request that way. It lets us give feedback whilst staying on our favourite site. ;-)

just to restate this on the new page

I'm taking a vote of all the members of the RRC, anybody who would like their opinion voiced in this matter please PM me as to whether or not we should go with the new enriched link posting as in the last Thursday's list, or keep the old standard HTML hyperlinks.

Also, thank you Bezman for updating the club info page, sorry for my incompetence when it comes to the txt. attachments, it looks great.

I'd like to have my newest song reviewed please.

Response to Review Request Club 2008-10-14 15:54:57

Hi, although I have not been contributing much to the thread, I have been reviewing several of the flash on the list for a while.

I have a question about my recent reviews that I feel that you are the people to ask about.

I have taken a lot of time in my recent reviews, but I feel that I still need to improve, if it's possible, please could you look at my reviews and say what section would work well to add. Here's a link (to my flash reviews) if you want to do so then please mention what you would add either in this thread, or via PM. Thank you.

I'm sorry if unallowed to make a request like this, if so then just say so.

No I think you're reviews are fine, you hardly ever see reviews that detailed and helpful.

I still feel that I can improve. I reckon that there's something that I've missed out on.

You can't cover every single aspect with your review, it's just not possible. Instead, focus on a few things and try to help on those aspects as good as you can.

I'm going to ask if you can review my halloween submission. It only got 3 reviews after being on the portal, which kind of sucks.

But yeah, anything to say is great, good or bad, as long as it's constructive =D

Mind reviewing an experiment of mine?

It's my halloween entry :D. It's nothing that i normally would make but i hope you can give a decent review for it.

Hey, Deflektor told me to check this club out, I'm thinking about joining, but I wanna know if I'm absolutely obligated to do something countinuously to stay in...you see I have these bouts of not logging on for like a month here and there, but then logging on nearly everyday the next 2 months..

Any chance I could get a few reviews on my new game?

Obama Dress Up

It only has 4 reviews compared to my other games with 18, and 31 reviews.

Thanks!

Response to Review Request Club 2008-10-16 16:12:05

perfect-insanity told me I'd made a mistake in v002 of the rules. It should now be fixed.

Also - what's with all the 'secret' votes going on via PM? Why not keep this stuff in the open?

At 10/14/08 03:54 PM, mwmike wrote: I have taken a lot of time in my recent reviews, but I feel that I still need to improve, if it's possible, please could you look at my reviews and say what section would work well to add. Here's a link (to my flash reviews) if you want to do so then please mention what you would add either in this thread, or via PM. Thank you.

If anything, I'd suggest you cut down on the number of categories. I feel like any review format that has all that many categories is gonna result in a fair amount of redundancy. I mean, most of the time, for 'v-cam usage', you're either making wild guesses or just saying 'it wasn't used'. That's not really useful - neither to the author nor to any potential audience.

Similarly, if something doesn't apply, even including it as a section seems like a waste of time - for you to write or others to read.

If you cut down on the number of categories - maybe eliminating them altogether - but actually give some specific, understandable constructive criticism, that may be an improvement.

E.g. for your review of 'fbf something', I can't tell - by reading your review - what you think the author should improve. OK, you say that it 'was choppy, short, and didn't have much point.' but how was it choppy? Were there too few frames a second? Did the drawings not flow properly? Was the timing more 'mechanical' and not at all 'natural'?

You go on to say 'Apart from that, I was not impressed.''I think you could improve on your work.' 'I didn't enjoy it. You CAN improve on your flash. Just take more time on it.' and 'Very short. Try to improve and extend your flash.'

Okay, so you've told the author it should be lengthened. However, rather than just telling him the same thing repeatedly, maybe elaborate. Or just save yourself a bit of time. It seems to me that forcing this structure upon yourself hasn't necessarily worked out - here, it's led to redundancy and repetition.

Having said that, if you want to 'try out' this format, go ahead. It can be fun and liberating to try things, abandoning them at a later point.

For games, I'd definitely say you should look at other areas. How long did you play? How far did you get? Are the rules clear? Were the instructions well explained? Were the toys put together in a way that forms interesting levels? Is the difficulty curve smooth or are there wild oscillations?

Your review structure seems to cover everything, but for a game, it's wanting.

Having said THAT, you seem like a great reviewer and I'd love to have anything of mine reviewed by you. Hint, hint. ;-)

You don't have to join if you are just going to put your links here. You can put up to 3 links a week here to your flash submissions and you don't have to be a member.

Now if you wanted to join to review then I'm going to have to tell you no for the time being. I'm sure if the other members looked at your reviews that they would agree with me. Now if you can prove that you can write helpful reviews then you can feel free to join, but your reviews aren't very helpful at all and most are 1 line or only a couple of words. If you want some review help PM one of the members here, which you can just PM me if you want.

To reviewers - this is the list of requests made between the last update and now. It's a 'preview' of the list that will be posted on Sunday or Monday - Haggard or Shanus will probably tally the points for these reviews in 9 days time - on the 26th October. If you haven't already completed them, I suggest you first review some stuff from Shanus' list on page 192.

To requestors - if you made a request since my last list and it is not listed below, I have made a mistake. Being human, I may potentially have gotten the link wrong. Let me know in either case.
If you make a request after this post, it won't be included until next Thursday/Friday's update.
The Sunday/Monday list is just a repost of this.

General Rules for Requesters:
If you are planning on requesting reviews, please:
- Post a direct link to the submission(s) you want reviewed.
- Make no more than 3 requests within one week.
- Respond to reviews.
- Be patient. Due to the points system, you may not see reviews until up to two weeks after you request.
- Do NOT request without posting a link.
- Do NOT just say "Review everything" or just link to your profile.
- Do NOT request reviews for the same submission more than once.

Thanks for the suggestion, but tea isn't my thing, more of a nap guy really, and I'm a touch freaked out by needles too, but the way I see it is that a few minutes of discomfort and a couple days of lowered productivity will save, or at least lengthen a few lives

Ok guys, I have applied for this club earlier, but failed to submit my score before Sunday.
To be honest, I can not really be bothered to take part in the score thing. Is it ok if I just review some of the requests, add the RRC mark under it, but not take part in the score doodling?
This way I can still contribute ( what this club is for, after all ) but I don't have to spend time calculating my score etc.

Is that ok?
