CLUB INFO
...............................

General Rules for Requesters:
If you are planning on requesting reviews, please:
- Post a direct link to the submission(s) you want reviewed.
- Make no more than 3 requests within one week.
- Do us a favour and respond to our reviews.
- Be patient. Due to the points system, you may not see reviews until up to two weeks after you request.
- Do NOT request without posting a link.
- Do NOT just say "Review everything" or just link to your profile.
- Do NOT request reviews for the same submission more than once.

General Rules for New Reviewers:
If you are planning on completing requests, please do the following:
- Post in this thread to let us know you'd like to join.
- Understand the points system and keep track of your own score. You will only be added to the list if you post your own score within the first week.

Points:
**Please also keep track of your own points. If you see something missing, it's probably a mistake**
**To be on the list, you must make at least one review, posters only will not be counted**

5 points for a review on a requested movie/game
7 points for a review on a requested audio
+1 point for putting "Review Request Club" at the bottom of a requested review
3 points for posting at least once throughout the week
5 points for referring a new member (must mention you in first post)
7 points for reviewing all requests/recommendations for that week

Club updates
Each Sunday or Monday, Haggard or Shanus currently create a list of all the members, counting up their points, calculating various stats and posting a list of requested submissions. Assuming you review the submissions listed, you will get points for them on the following members' update, 6 or 7 days later.

On Thursday, Perfect-insanity currently creates a list of all requests and recommendations made up until then, since the previous thursday. This can be seen as a 'preview' of the list that will accompany the following members' update on Sunday/Monday. The points for these are tallied 10 days later.

Requests made between the 'preview list' and the 'members' update' carry over to the next preview list. So you will always have over 9 days to finish the reviews. (Feel free to review submissions as soon as they are requested!)

FAQ
Should we have a FAQ?
I don't know. It kinda seems like overkill.

Should I link to the club in my sig?
There's no obligation to do so, but it's certainly appreciated. Remember that you can put a high number in place of the page number in the url and if that page doesn't exist yet, NG will take you to the latest page, whatever it is.

So if you link to: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/4834 48/999
then anyone following that link will always see the latest page.

I don't understand what recommendations are all about!
As mentioned under this section in each list, 'You may make a recommendation if you reviewed 100% of the previous weeks requests and recommendations. It should be over 3 days old and have under 50 reviews.'

As long as your name is on the last 'All requests completed' list, feel free to recommend something you've enjoyed from the portal.

You could use this to let us know about something you think is specially awesome, yet overlooked. If there aren't many game or movie requests, maybe you could make a recommendation so we have something to review.

Does the Review Request Club review stuff for non-NG stuff?
Short answer: no.

Long answer: Milinko used to include youtube requests in the list of requests, but the introduction of a points system didn't leave room for such things. You can request reviews here, but some of us may not have accounts on Myspace/Youtube/whatever or may simply be disinclined to review things outside NG. It wouldn't get nearly as much attention compared to if it were a NG submission.

I'd suggest putting songs on the AP, then making a request that way. It lets us give feedback whilst staying on our favourite site. ;-)

I imagine it's a fair bit easier to do updated in the new format, but... I imagined they'd all fit in one post.

Was excited to see the update after seeing Tom's new feature.

I will rejoin if someone will total up my first time score for me becuase I am too lazy to work out how to do it and well, I don't think I'll ever get round to doing it after writting a load of reviews. Anyone offering to do it would be nice, saves me a lot of effort and time.

Gosh, I know I'm am lazy, but that's my condition if you want me back!!

Lol, lazy ass. >.<

I will total your scores for you since you only have to do it on your first week of joining so one time won't be too much work. Just send me a PM whenever you get the reviews done and I will PM you back with your totals.

Just going through this week's requests and I think that this sort of submission should not be reviewed by members of this club. We should not pander to the needs and wants of Attention Whores, who only wish for us to make their flash sound good, as it has double digit reviews.

People like Heil, darknessdweller, dAvEBoT and the like do not want feedback to improve their flash. I'm sure that Heil and dAvEBoT could make decent flash if they tried. darknessdweller is just in it because he is a pathetic attention whore.

I know that in this climate, where flash review requests are scarce, we need to trawl through the portal for the more or less hidden gems, which the submittors genuinely want to get some constructive criticism, so that they can improve themselves as artists. It's a sad time to think that Bahamut isn't submitting as much as he used to, so we must look elsewhere for good flash to review.

With this in mind, I will highlight the following submissions:

I've literally spent 2 minutes looking for these, but this is the one way that we will kill off the need to review such pathetic things as darknessdweller wuz here.

I was sent an 'update' of the rules, but it wasn't a .txt attachment so I had to edit it myself.

Whilst doing so, I made the following changes:
- inserted perfect-insanity's name
- changed some words in that paragraph, making it slightly more concise and clear
- swapped Shanus/Haggard's names
- deleted the first 'FAQ'

New rules:
http://aciddica.com/this_will_be_deleted _at_some_point_in_the_future/RRC/rulesv0 02

If anyone wants further changes to be made or wants changes to be reverted, let me know.

At 10/12/08 06:08 AM, Coop83 wrote: People like Heil, darknessdweller, dAvEBoT and the like do not want feedback to improve their flash.

I agree. The 'Wegra's Adventure' and 'Dot of Excellence' series are pretty similar in that regard.

If you want to exclude them from the list, though, that's a fair bit of work and responsibility for the Thursday list maintainer and if they're on the list, folk will want to review them for statistical and completionist reasons.

Here's one idea for a rule-change: How about if folk with, say, 50% completion are allowed to make recommendations? There's hardly any recommendations currently and it'd let folk do so without having to review the spam.

Here's 2 other ideas:
1 - any submission with the genre 'spam' is not included in the list (when Thursday list maintainer is making it)
2 - maybe have a system for folk to 'vote' an author to be put on a 'blacklist'? I notice a lot of spam seems to come from the same folk. Once on a blacklist, if someone notices that their requests are actually decent, there could be a vote to get them off the blacklist. Blacklisted folk don't have their requests included in the Thursday update.

Votes should be able to be 'started' by any member - regardless of points and age - and any interested members can vote. Should a vote only need a 50% majority, or should it need more?

Of course, discussion is always good.

Those 2 rules could get rid of most of the spam, without bringing one person's subjectivity into it.

What do you guys think?

I agree. The 'Wegra's Adventure' and 'Dot of Excellence' series are pretty similar in that regard.

But at least "Wegra's Adventure" has SOME sort of humor (the randomness). But I agree that "darknessdweller wuz here" shouldn't get any sort of attention.

1 - any submission with the genre 'spam' is not included in the list (when Thursday list maintainer is making it)

Blacklisted folk don't have their requests included in the Thursday update.

The first one might be a bit harsh, as there might be a few good submissions labeld as "spam".
But it is very easy for the thursday list maintainer to sort out those requests. If he had to watch the submissions before including them to the list, it might be too much work/too time consuming.
The second idea is good, but I don't think that enough users would vote, if there would be an "election" wether a user should be put on the blacklist or not.

Yeah darknessdweller's flash had no purpose in being reviewed, but it's exactly what you said. Some people will think a flash absolutely has no effort, isn't funny, isn't entertaining at all, say it's spam etc.. Then the next person can come by and think it's really funny and doesn't care if it's a spam submission or not. That's why spam submissions are so hard to call spam in the first place. Just because one person doesn't like it doesn't mean that another won't like it. What we need to do is come up with a clear understanding between the members of what's spam or not. I've been thinking about this lately anyway.

Response to Review Request Club 2008-10-12 10:21:17

Still discussing this spam issue then? Well I would agree with any form of filtering and black listing, it would give you a use for the update before the main update. Since I never liked the update before the main one, lol.

I'll get started reviewing stuff when the Sunday update has come, I can't be bothed to rush through the previous list. I know I'm so lazy.

Okay, so when the Thursday List maker submits the list on the Thursday, we get to see any that are labelled "questionable". Those that are listed here are put to a vote from the members of the Club (via PM or discussion on the BBS) and the final decision is made before the update is due to be processed on the Monday.

That deals with Spam submissions that might actually warrant being reviewed, as certain of Odyssic's flash, for example probably come into that genre, but they aren't as bad as darknessdweller wuz here by a long shot.

Sound fair?

Is there going to be any change to how I post the requests, or is it business as usual for me?

Also, regarding the new enriched link posting, are we keeping it as the new format of the lists or are we going to return to the tried and true method?

Well, you've got to make the link for the flash itself, so therefore head to the main page for the flash. A few seconds more to check if a submission is spam, doesn't have a good quality image, to label it as questionable at the bottom of the post. I think we can discuss them afterwards. Obviously some screamers and rickrolls might be more subtle than that, but if any member finds a flash to be questionable, bring it to the attention of the club and we can deal with it, via discussion and action.

Also, regarding the new enriched link posting, are we keeping it as the new format of the lists or are we going to return to the tried and true method?

I think we need to go with the old method - simply because the lists look better when they all fit on one screen. Sure, the enriched link is great, if you're posting 1 or 2 links at a time, but if you're doing 15+, it does get cumbersome

When would voting close? There needs to be enough time to vote, but enough time for folk to review it in their own time if they want.

Maybe if there's an author black-list, there's no need for a per-submission veto system? I feel that a blacklist is the better system - it's more proactive. Maybe rejecting a submission could place the author on a blacklist, though, combining the 2 systems?

Also, I vote for the pictorial links for the update - at least for a while. I like being able to see the icons and it's maybe more eye-catching on the page.

Well, the updates are done on Mondays and the lists themselves are published on a Thursday evening. If everyone has said what they want to about any questionable flash by Sunday Evening, then we should be in a position to rule them in or out for the purposes of the update. Obviously, we would need someone to collate this info, but I can do that on a Sunday evening - I'll be on the BBS anyway at that time.

Hmm, that's potentially a good way to go, but there should be a method for people to redeem themselves off the blacklist, like producing better flash or audio, for example.

Thanks for the update Shanus.

Movie Requests:(9)

Wow a very nice amount compared to what we usually get. Good thing because it will give me something to do this week as I have finished most of my exams now.

Game Requests:(1)
Madness Short 4 - M136 by Murad136

I'm good friends, but I have to give you an honest review if it comes from this club man so don't expect a ten from me this time. :( That is if it really doesn't deserve a 10. I guess I will find out when watch it.

Audio Requests:(11)

Another nice amount of reviews. It looks like the reviews have been coming in nicely lately. :)

Spotlighted Recommendations:

I didn't have time to go through and find a movie to review this week around, but I will get to it next week if I can find the time.

I'm not going to get to you for another couple of updates it doesn't look like.

Moving in on 300 reviews for the club and keeping my 100 percent so far.

There are several inactives behind me. If I think about it and if I have time I will send out some PM's and give them a little reminder just in case they want to come back. If not then I might have to find another member or two. With Little-Rena maybe coming back it will add another quality reviewer.

Finally a nice list here. Let's see if we can keep it up around this for awhile. For a long time it was only the usual people making this list. Good to see more names here.

Thanks for the update, Shanus. A balanced selection of requests for both Flash and audio this time, which is nice to see

7 of us here this time around. I guess I'd better make a start on the requests for this week.

Thanks a bunch for the update, I was waiting it with faith =D.

Woo, that's a lot. More than the usual, it will be hard to complete all these requests, but it's also nice to see more requests on this section.

Audio Requests:(11)

A good amount of Audio Requests ... good to see. I like when people request reviews on two or three of their songs, you can compare the songs and see if the artist has his own style. I like it :P.

Not bad, I should pass Mrputter out the next week. To bad, I didn't reviewed all the requests last week :(.
