I think after careful contemplation, I'm going to have to quit the EGB as well. It's a shame, but the club has gone downhill in my eyes, and I'd rather not be associated with something that is really doing more harm than good right now.

Phantom maintains that the club is still about standing for something positive, but other than the odd link to a rule-breaking flash, I see nothing to support his point.

Woah, Joshiwa you said some of the newer users that you don't like and I know you don't like me, but sorry if I "helped" in your decision to quit. You are one of the last people that I would want to quit the EGB, but it's your decision I guess. I hope everything here quiets up a little bit. If Joshiwa does leave is someone willing to take the list duties because I'm not sure if I have time and I'm pretty sure some of the members wouldn't want me taking control of the list anyway. Trust me I listen to your posts, I just don't reply to them that much. I tend to read more then I post in clubs like these. Most of the time that you post flashes up that are stolen I'm not on at the same time so it's too late for me to do anything about it anyway. And to Joshiwa, if it was me that you didn't like then I rather leave the club then you. This club needs you more then it needs me and I can always come back in the future. I mean I love this club, but if my presence is going to make someone who has been here longer then me leave then I'm willing to sacrifice my position to keep that person here.

Alright, time to get to business. The Barracks is on more-or-less hold until all of these points have been addressed.

1. Shoring up the ranks.

I will be PM'ing every single member on the most recent roster, informing them that I am checking to see who is still active on Newgrounds and whether or not they have any intent on posting here regularly. Anyone who does not reply via PM within a week will be moved to a Discharged Member List unless they become active again. I don't care if you posted on this page, respond to the PM I send so I can do this right and not miss anyone.

Since we're without a Records Officer, a small roster will not just be more accurate, but also easier to handle for amateur list makers.

2. Complete officer re-structuring.

Talked about this before, didn't actually do anything about it. Time to rectify that mistake. Here's the positions and their current statuses.

Chief Barracks Officer
ROLE: Command decisions of Barracks.
STATUS: SECURED

As of now, I am officially claiming the role of Chief Barracks Officer, and will remain as such until I resign or EagleRock returns and requests it back. I know that I am not insanely active, but I can be active enough. Looks like I'll have to be to keep y'all in check.

Lieutenant Chief Barracks Officer (Second-in-Command
ROLE: Command decisions of Barracks if CBO is not active.
STATUS: UNSECURED

Phantom, I'm going to make this simple. If you promise to lighten the fuck up, the job is yours. If you feel as though you cannot make this promise, or make it and break it at a later date, it will be taken away from you. PM me with response as soon as possible.

Second Lieutenant Chief Barracks Officer
ROLE: N/A
STATUS: DISCONTINUED

Replacing this role with Emergency Command Officer for simplicity.

Emergency Command Officer
ROLE: Command decisions for Barracks if both superior officers are absent.
STATUS: AVAILABLE

With NEVR's resignation, this role is open. I want a long-time member holding this position. PM me if you're interested.

Barracks Relations Officer
ROLE: AMBIGUOUS
STATUS: DISCONTINUED

Sentio is still semi-active and holds the sort of "elder council" role I mentioned a while back. If you're interested, Sentio, you can have the Emergency Command Officer role, if you believe yourself active enough to notice in the event such a role is needed.

Barracks Recruitment Officer
ROLE: Organized discussion on prospective recruits, make judgment call in event of a plurality
STATUS: SECURED

I can still handle this role, although the scrutiny may increase in the future. I want to devise a list of certain things we'll be looking for in a recruit and put it somewhere---things like B/P ratio, for example (which, while we don't have a firm limit on, is something I've been looking at more closely lately.

Barracks Advancement Officer [Major changes]
ROLE: Heading 'Boot Camp' training of on-the-fence new recruits
STATUS: AVAILABLE

Hemlok hasn't posted here since May, and barring a positive response to my roll call PM, I don't have reason to think he will anytime soon. This role is for an experienced, high-post-quality member to take and guide new and...well, shoddy recruits through the process of adjusting to the Barracks. Officer should have a firm grasp of the EGB guidelines and positions on things such as spam, whistling, posting here and elsewhere on the BBS, etc.. Until/unless this position is filled, I'll handle the duties whenever necessary.

Barracks Record Officers
ROLE: Maintain detailed list of all Barracks members.
STATUS: AVAILABLE

With Joshiwa and NEVR both resigning, this position is open. Honestly, I have no clue how they made the lists, and unless someone else does, the roster updates will only mention who enters/leaves the Barracks. So, if anyone knows how to do it and feels that they can handle the load, speak up. We don't need to have weekly updates if the burden is too great---monthly is adequate.

Portal Violations Officer
ROLE: Maintain list of all suspected stolen flash and their processing
STATUS: AVAILABLE

PossiblePancakes has first dibs on the position if he feels up to it. If not, he can be on the same 'elder council' as Sentio.

This officer would be responsible for keeping a list of all the STOLEN ALERT flashes that pass judgment, informing Wade of their passing (with original source URLS and other details), and keeping track of which haven't been deleted. Every so often, any still-existing flashes should be re-examined and either re-reported to Wade if strongly suspected or removed from the list if there is reasonable doubt.

I like the idea of only having one member be in charge of informing Wade, so as to prevent sixteen of us PM'ing him about the same thing and pissing him off.

Officer need not be super-active in the Portal, though they must be good at searching the internets for original source URL's and the like, as well as being clean-and-squeaky enough to be on Wade's good side.

Barracks Portal Operations Officer
ROLE: 'Wartime' information gathering, ie screenies of Portal, infiltration of spam forums, etc
STATUS: NOT NEEDED AT THE TIME

Barring a Barney Bunch-esque invasion, and reinforced by NEVR's resignation, role is placed on indefinite hold. The roles of intelligence officer and recon officer would be merged for this role, although they could be relegated to multiple people again if the need was dire enough.

NGPD Liaison
ROLE: Maintain friendly relations with NGPD and encourage soon-to-be alumni to enroll in the Barracks as Guardsman/members.
STATUS: AVAILABLE

I will be making a long post to the NGPD soon expressing our willingness to re-connect with them. Any NGPD alumni in the Barracks can apply for this role via PM. Officer must be active in BOTH clubs and set a very good example to the NGPD in terms of post quality and knowledge of the Barracks.

NGDD Liaison
ROLE: Maintain friendly relations with NGDD and encourage members of NGDD to enroll in the Barracks and vice-versa.
STATUS: SECURED UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE

AnalPenguinFarming, if you're still up to it, let us know. A lot of Barracks members don't know how the NGDD works and might enjoy it and be helpful, and a lot of NGDD members would make swell EGB members.

Point is, any unneeded officer roles will, like inactive members, be discarded. No point in having more show than substance.

3. Official Barracks Manifesto Re-Statement

I feel that it is important for the Barracks views on certain topics to be more widely known to both the NG public and our members. For example, spam. We all have our opinions on what is/is not spam, and what should be done with it, but the Barracks needs an official stance. Some newer members might be surprised to know that I am a former Barney Bunch member and still produce the occasional 'spam' flash, and might wonder why I don't consider that a conflict with my EGB duties. I'll get to this after we have our member/officer lists straightened up.

There WILL be more, but this stuff needs to be done first. Forums may also be gutted/rebooted so I can open up more space and get projects started/re-started cleanly. I'd also like to have member profiles up on the forums, including club memberships, flash/audio info, stuff like that.

Anyhow, get to brainstorming. And no dicking around until this stuff is done. Several members/former members are right; we shouldn't have waited til September to do our spring cleaning.

Since when did the EGB degenerate to the point of people arguing with each other constantly, even to the point of slamming down "Your Momma" jokes? And yes, I know the "your momma" jokes were tongue-in-cheek at best, but STILL.

I have been lurking the forums for the past few weeks, but skipped the last week or so. I only had a chance to quickly peruse the last two pages or so, and so far, it seems everything people have been arguing about has been childish and stupid. Not to say the MEMBERS are childish and stupid, but we're completely losing focus here. Frankly, based on the arguing, I think it has a lot to do with the bullshit that has been submitted to the Portal and how no one can agree how to deal with it. We've been around since friggin' Barney Bunch stuff, and that didn't phase us before...why now?

I'm going to put it straight to everyone, especially my officers: LIGHTEN UP. You all know your shit when it comes to Newgrounds, and we all have opinions. Every single one of you was chosen for a reason, and that's because I (with consensus with all the other members at the time) felt you were of the caliber to run this club. Now, I know I'm not active like I used to, but it is quite hard with a full-time job that requires more than average overtime. But that being said, I'd think you could hold the fort without defaulting to arguments like this...

Now, I have a tendency to make big speeches, so I want to state some quick truisms:

1. Slash is right. We need to restructure, and just stop the stupid arguing. If you have different opinions about spam or whatever, arguing on the main thread isn't the place to do it. Have a non-childish debate off the main thread and on the forums.

2. We need a new forum to flesh out this shit in. I know I promised the club new forums, and I still am working on that. My goal was it to be complete and us to be 100% migrated over by our 1000th page. And, to be completely honest, I wasn't planning on returning until the forums I was making were complete. Too bad I haven't finished them yet as of this post. However, I think it's high-time to speed this up. I plan on picking up the pace for sure.

3. In regards to the Barracks Manifesto, I don't necessarily think it needs to be re-written. However, I'd like everyone to read it again carefully. I addressed most of this stuff you're arguing about right in there.

4. In regards to spam: let's remember our #1 core value: "Fair voting on every Flash, NO MATTER WHAT." Now, what does that mean? Use your fair and honest judgment. If someone has posted the same exact flash 27 times trying to get it past judgment, that's blatant spam. If a person tries to use a flash to pass and then swaps it for something shitty or stupid, that's spam. Anything else really is up in the air, and requires FAIR JUDGMENT. If a person makes crappy flash that sucks on a regular basis but comes out with a good one for a change, VOTE FAIRLY. That means no upvoting, no downvoting, just fair voting. Anything other actions is outside of our manifesto and isn't what we stand for. If Newgrounds were a "perfect place," everyone would do this. No spam group would have power (noone chases the points), aspiring artists would have a fair chance, etc. You get the point.

5. And lastly, we all need to keep our egos in check. We have here what I feel to be some of the best users on NG. Hell, we were doing this stuff years before Wade came up with his Portal Watch. We don't need to implode based on some mindless banter. That includes you, Phantom. You know I have a good deal of respect for you, and you always were the "EGB Badass." However, don't let that ego and "badassness" get to the point where it's tearing us apart. That also goes for everyone else. Let's remember something...this is the Internet...SERIOUS BUSINESS. Lighten up, folks. :-)

Anyway, I'm at work, and don't really have time to be on the forum all day. So let me wrap this up quick. Let me just say I'm on-board with pretty much everything Slash has said, and plan on touching base with him and working this stuff out. Oh hello guys, it seems I haven't been posting much recently, again, yes I do have horrible moments of inactivity on the BBS from time to time. Not that I don't like posting, I just don't often have a whole lot to say.

Anyway, I've been on my introduction week of university this week, mostly many boring introduction things, some pretty long days too, the past two I've worken up early which I'm not used to anymore, so that makes me tired. Uhh, also my timetable seems to change every week, which is strange, lol.

Not a problem, as I just said in a PM to you, I'm not active enough to take on a role like that, but when I am around I'm happy to be seen as one of the senior members and have some clout to go along with it! Good job on beginning the repair job around here, the problems brought to light by NEVR and Joshiwa were concerning me as well- recently I've only felt a need to post about the roster, and that isn't how it used to be here.

I'm sorry to see that both of you are planning to leave the Barracks, though I can fully understand why under the current circumstances. I'd like to say I'm sure everyone appreciates what a great job you have done here over the past months, especially with the roster updates (I'm not sure how anyone can do that job, it would drive me insane!), and I know once you had a good time in this place. I hope to see you back here in the future when things have been smoothed out, at its heart the Barracks tries to good on Newgrounds, especially within the portal, and users like you are the ones we need to do that. Hello everyone, been some time now hasn't it?

The PM I received wasn't what brought me back, but reminded me of the strong following, and duties we are to uphold, not only as Elite Guards, but also as good members to the site.

I'd love to be welcomed back with open arms, but I haven't deserved it, not with my inactivity both here, and in the Portal.

Anyways, I'm back now, this time for good. I will no longer just lurk around, reading about the good and bad times, and saying nothing.. I will contribute one way or another, given I have time and ability to.

I think I remember a few games from that site being submitted here before, however it was under a different account. That just adds more probability to the "stolen" hypothesis. Anyway, apparently enough people thought it stolen to flag it, so yeah.

Anyways, tomorrow is my 19th birthday. I really don't have much planned, though my dad is taking us out to eat and my mom's baking a cake.

Ah, movies all seemed to be flagged before I get to them. Good job though if it was really stolen guys. I've been having a pretty bad day though. I've been kind of sick and I'm really tired so newgrounds isn't seeing a lot of me today. I can't really thin straight today either and I failed a couple of tests, but my head hurts to the point that I can't study for them and nothing that I read stays in my head.
