But yes, hello there, Safety Patroller! To join the Barracks you need to be of Private rank or higher (2500+ B/P), so you can't be a member here yet. However, that doesn't mean you can't help protect Newgrounds while working your way up!

For one thing, you can help the effort by voting fairly on all submissions in the Portal. It's much more important to give UJ flashes an honest vote than to get points by fifening something spammish. Be sure to vote impartially and to spread the word to do the same!

Also, you can help by whistling rulebreaking flashes and reviews. You'll need to fix up that Garbage Whistle first, though (we don't allow Garbage Whistle holders in the EGB, in fact). You can go to the Abusive Review Thread and check the most recent couple pages for abusive reviews; if you do a lot of flagging there, you can get that whistle fixed up and shiny in no time. ^_^

The goal of the Portal Improvement Petition Project is to more than just sit around and take shit...we come up with a list of the problems with the current system and plausible, sensible proposed solutions. We then drum up support for the ideas (I'll writify the final list into a news post and we'll pimp it out to the NG community) and eventually submit it to Mr. Fulp and see what he has to say (Tom seems to like responding to PM's more than Waid, incidentally, lol).

So yes, go there and speak your mind! No comment or suggestion is a stupid one.

Quite, the best places to mention it are in the big stat whore threads, namely the Wi/Ht lists, and the Level up Lounge. I know Coop has been bringing things up there, and when I do post I try and mention the problems as well.

Yup, and people asking to join around here should always be pointed to the FAQ whether they qualify or not, and should also be given a short speech on fair voting in the portal. It is newer users like that who need the most encouragement as right now the sea of crap is overwhelming. As a result their quality control may drop as they think almost anything is worthy of passing (as it always does), and that is the last thing we want.

Im the co-leader of the Anti Kitten Krew. So i think the most problem of you guys are that you think that we are just mass voting on the KK flashes because the KK made it! We dont! the reason why our group has been founded is that the KK has brought so many poor quality flashes with the same content and we thought we would do something useful if we would try to dam the flood. we arent against Crews. some crew flashes are really funny. But i never found a funny KK flash. If i would i would judge it fairly and show him the other members. If you should know one you are welcome to report it to me via PM. We wanna help to keep the portal clean just like u.

What you described is us, only you focus on certain groups. We vote fairly on every flash, whether it's an Adam Phillips or a Kitty Krew. Back in the day, crew were formed because people wanted to make funny flashes with some friends over the internet. And it was until about 6 months ago. But they turned to spam. But we still voted fairly on them. And now, you and your AKK buddies are just giving the spammers what they want; attention. These are our guidelines:
- Do NOT bias-vote, NO MATTER WHAT - What does this entail? This entails being impartial in all of your votes, no matter who makes it or what their history is. For example, the Barney Bunch, long-time perpetrators of spamlike flash, have been known to produce good flash on occasion. If they did good work on their flash, despite their past, they deserve a chance to a fair vote. This is why the "anti-Kitty Krew" mentality is not good in our eyes, as it locks you into mindsets that will skew your vote. Skewed votes, after all, are what cause problems like this in the first place.

- Do not just vote 0 and 5 - Many people do this because they think it will max their potential for points, while still judging. This is narcissistic at best, and skews the vote. If you feel something deserves a 2, giving it a 5 will definitely skew the vote.

- Watch the flash as a whole and do not prejudge - Why? I've seen some movies that started out horribly, but were hilarious in the end. Others ended up being flash that started good but ended with Tricky or some kind of shitty ending. This is crucial to a vote.

That pretty much covers the "moral" aspect of voting.

Basically, respect people and their opinions, be smart, and don't be a jerk. Being a power-hungry bastard and someone that doesn't listen to others or respect them won't gleam awesomeness in you. I can tell you take this seriously, but realize that being an anti-crew makes you as bad as the crew itself. I'd suggest reforming your group and being "anti-spam" or "pro-Portal." This is simply because it gets away from that polarized mindset that fucks up Newgrounds in the first place. If you want, feel free to PM me and we can talk it over.

Good find, but I knew that, sadly. That's why it's good we're getting people aware that not everyone thinks that way. Huzzah to HeavenDuff and the rest that have started to spread the word, as this will undoubtedly help us. It's good to know we have people that think differently around here. It's even better that we have people that are willing to do something about it.

Exactly. It's like so many of the "Anti" Flashes. They are usually of EXTREMELY poor quality, rushed, and just as bad as the spam and crews they are saying suck. It doesn't help the cause in ANY way at all.

That's why it's tough to turn people to vote fairly. It takes a lot of effort to get people to do good, and very little effort to get people to do wrong.

SPAM Flash takes mere minutes to make, plus they reuse everything so they flood the portal. Making one good Flash takes at LEAST a week, probably longer and unless you nail a daily, just as many people will probably see it as will see one of the SPAM Flash.

That doesn't make it impossible, though. We just need to get the right people onboard. Namely the highest B/P ranked folks that are part of the problem.

Thanks to Slash for the updated "welcoming people that don't quite make it to the Barracks" schpiel, as I love the fact that you're promoting the protection of the Portal.

I should note to prospective members that we do not alienate members, and that we encourage you all to B/P and do your best to Protect the Portal. Sure, the Elite Guard Barracks has a high B/P requirement for membership, but you can consider it a goal to achieve. And, to help you on your way, are many great groups like the NGPD and the NGDD. They are our allies in protecting the Portal, and will accept you with much less stringent requirements. That doesn't mean they are lesser groups of course, they just have a different theme.

Dammit, those UJ's passed judgement. I guess a consolation is the fact that their scores were fairly low.

I've been away for a while, since I've been rearranging furniture and other stuff around the house. Now I'm here, and I noticed that the portal is not loaded with as much spam submissions, at least from what I remember.

So that's a plus. Hope we can get some more people into voting more fairly on flashes.

So Madness Day is only three more days away. As long as it's not another Clock Day, it should turn out well.

I know this is a whole thread of users who feel the same way as the portal right now as i do ;) We're the ones with the voting power, we're the ones who can make a difference. Just because a submission has a kitty krew thumb, it shouldn't automatically pass, and we know that. We've gotta whittle them down so that people don't know for a fact they will get a protection point from this submission... once we can get a couple blammed, which might take a while, hopefully things will pick up.

You've got a what, 8.5 VP or more? That's really good. It's hard to get it much higher, since you can only go for the level increases, not the b/p increases.

Trust me, even with a higher VP, you won't stop much from passing.
