Whoa, hell of a post, but I do agree regarding Steve's untimely demise and some truly awful tributes.
Yeah. Some people are just hopping on the bandwagon, not because they care about Steve, but because they just want to have a flash to their name.
I saw one yesterday that said "In memory of Steve Irwin, vote 5 on this flash".
I usually give a crap score when the author says "vote 5!". But I gave that a 1, since it had already passed, and just because...
Anyways, University has started for me again (yuck). I may not be as active as last year. I'm hoping to bring up my marks and such. Also, being in processing for the Army reserve takes my time. But if I get it, not only will I be an Elite Guard, but also a Foot Guard (yay Bearskin hat...).

Is that irresponsible?
In my opinion, no. You said your son is being raised to be respectful and responsible. That's good. I wouldn't care if my kids (hypothetical at the moment) became regular users on NG. You just need to know how to balance it with everything else, and to not be swayed by half the crap that deluges the portal.
For myself, I'm starting to get tired of rating UJ flash submissions. I now tend to stick with watching already passed flash (weekly top 20, top 50, etc), as well as spending more time in the other forums (General, etc).
Because of my lack of interest in doing much Blamming/Protecting, I even considerd leaving the EGB (gasp). But for now I'll see how things turn out. Chances are it's just a phase and that I'll start avidly BP'ing more (When more quality submissions start coming in, or some special event).
And like arianna said, that's my rant. For now.
