Points are hidden, and never discussed, cuz they're hidden. I think admins used to have some indicator, but again, nothing is discussed with general users.
That must mean that they know how many points are required for each whistle.
Nope.
Are they able to interfere with it,
Nope. We don't interfere with your flags, other than to process them.
or only the bot can hand out whistle points?
Points are gained for correct flags, and lost for incorrect ones.
Does this mean I'm going to lose a lot of whistle points?
If you flag based on someone else's posting, you risk losing rank. Do your own work and flag your own stuff. Also, don't post all your flags. People will steal your effort and gain when you're correct. Yes, they lose when you're not correct, but why not make them do their own work.
Whistle status is not designed to be gained quickly. It's not an award to be achieved. It's supposed to be a sign that you know what you're doing and have good judgement, not that you've managed to flag enough of someone else's posts before they got removed. ...or, at least that's how it's supposed to be.
My whistle rank was gained based on my own work. I used to spend hours per day on the site, and because of that, I found lots to flag. I'm proud of my work because I know I earned it. It took me years to achieve. There are many who have a rank they did not earn, and really do not deserve. Do your own work so you can be proud cuz you know you earned it.
