To me, this looks like an edge case. There's a mote of animation at the end, and puppetry has been allowed on the portal in the past. I'd say let this one slide and let the users take vote on it.

Erg, not exactly. V0te as you wish, but all the user's other scores are blam-worthy and they scraped by. Hopefully, that won't happen again. This fails, in my opinion.

#819638: No animation + Copyrighted music

Details: Contains two parts of then some trippy visualiser and 3D dino

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNh8PidbhhM

Also concerning is the music used. Despire the channel claiming it's fair use on YouTube, YouTube was able to Content ID 4 tracks.

This was also created by another person, but from what I can see, they consented to its upload here, so that isn't a concern.

I'll also put #818664 here too, but that one does contain CGI animation. I'll leave this one to the experts as I couldn't track down any sources. I suspect up to 50% of it isn't original. Maybe more

EDIT: It contains Animation vs Animator around 6:13

UPDATE: Ep 1 was removed by the author

I also read the credits for Ep 2 and the sources it says that it also includes an advert for the Commodore 128 and a scene from the 1997 film Cyberscape. Also music from Gorillaz and Karftwerk, so definitely a no-no!

EDIT: Ep 2s also removed. Crisis averted

Ah, iox acting like a big company owning everyone and everything again. Maybe it should have ringed a bell when they were first reported? Maybe not. Thanks for the post Anonymous-Frog, glad to see it was taken down (though iox still lives, so be very careful).

This one's obviously to NG moderation's discretion, but even if an user does allow a platform to publish content their own, the content has to be the user's own submission per the Portal submission guidelines. Tom should really update them someday, this causes confusion for both the moderation and the userbase. I don't recall it being that way 21 (Portal), 23 (NG birth) or 25 (New Ground Atomix launch) years ago.

Originals: Just do a simple search. (The logo itself is dead obvious evidence.)
And of course, it's a brand new account.

Just bringing those two back to attention in case they were missed.

You'd be surprised how often those pass without even trickery involved, Exedor. I'm assuming it's even easier with Tom's more lax take on judgment, but at least it's not a full blown 4.00 hell for every submission. (Tom didn't respond on that one even with the full technical details if the user whose name I will keep anonymous wants to know.)

No animation and puts NG at risk with the content used.

Left a review on both NEKO-ROOTS and the previous two games mentioned to clear things up with the submitting users.

Didn't bother with the adult one though as Materia Music Productions is fairly lax on audio takedowns concerning Deltarune (fair use).

Sure thing! I entered their Discord in order to sort things out. First it was their promototional trailer that they first put up here at the start of the month as part of a botched launch, where you accused them of fraud. They claim to not be a MCN and is just a channel that allows other people to submit videos on their channel.

Here's what their founder has to say on the matter.

Figure 1: Iox's creator Alanbuzzy's response to the initial NG controversy, just after I joined and showed them Crimson's original report.

When I first reported the Antenna Punk videos, I expected this to be an open and shut case. But when I filed my complaint in the Discord (see Figure 2), which also included linking my EGB post, only then do they realise that it's a bad idea and they take them down themselves (see Figure 3).

Figure 2: My report and Iox's reaction

iu_454560_8157415.webp

Figure 3: Iox deletes the two episodes themselves.

And this entire incident took place while its owner was asleep / inactive (as seen in Figure 3). Here's what he has to say hours after it happened:

iu_454561_8157415.png

Figure 4: Alanbuzzy's response.

As for the future of Iox: The rest of their content was later wiped by the NG moderators except for two episodes of 'Poorly Animated Roomates', both of which were originally uploaded by its creator. (Submission #816702 was a Half-Life SFM that now says it was removed by the mods, see Figure 5). I asked them where it went in Figure 4, but they have yet to respond.

iu_454562_8157415.png

Figure 5: An Iox original animation that got removed.

What are your thoughts on this situation, Should Iox stay on Newgrounds? From what I can say they appear to have some sense about what they're posting.

Hello again. I've been reporting tons of submissions lately, but I've been meaning to ask if I'm doing something wrong with the report reasons.

I report stolen music its own flag reason, but I'm not too sure of what I should use for submissions that do not fit the movie guidelines. Real-life recordings, screen captures, music videos with no video - are those to be reported as spam, improper or what? I wouldn't want to be committing a pretty bad mistake over and over, and I haven't found a clear answer to what categorize these reports as. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes some time to answer >-<

Hello Ivalyth!

As far as I know, NG moderation doesn't exactly elaborate on the category but this is what I go with myself. Your mileage may vary.

  • Spam: Content that doesn't belong on NG (e.g. audio submissions in the movie portal, gameplay footage, etc); also applies to actual spam where found. I leave spammy shitposts alone per Exedor's recommendations and just vote on them instead. (If they're categorized as spam too, make sure they're not submissions made in good faith or with actual value for the Portal.)
  • Music: For stolen music. Provide a link to the original to make it easier on NG moderation. Your report may still be denied without enough evidence or if the audio copyright is a grey area, so it's best to also check with the content submitter (don't take their word for it, though; it's easy to tell when they try and get around it, and many will want to have you directly review the content as stolen to make you violate the Review Guidelines).
  • Stolen: Not the user's own work. Again, provide a link to either the original or an obvious link. Even free-to-use, open-source is a no-go, it must be the user's own creation. Edits and parodies are fine, the guidelines help with this but are quite outdated, apparently.
  • RP: Self-explanatory.
  • Improper: For improper ratings so moderators can fix it. I try to mention the original and what it should be, but the main issue here is it's mostly subjective - most content submitters are familiar with how NG deals with the ETMA rating though so they will help you with this. You can also DM the user so they can change it themselves.
  • Malicious: Self-explanatory; detailing the reasons is important here if you can. You can never get too technical with this.

Don't worry too much about a mistake every now and then unless you're blindly following the (very bad) NG Experts FAQ telling you to flag thousands of things. The abusive review one is a bit better but still encourages "farming" reports instead of casually reporting each one you come upon. When unsure, just don't report, and feel free to ask for thoughts on the matter - it will be removed and you will not earn/lose cosmetic "points", but you'll get the satisfaction of helping keep the Portal clean and safe and it's all that matters.

Make sure to attach the project if you can - I haven't asked Exedor and Asandir about that one; moderators can check the content but users may be confused as to why you see something as improper, or what the content was after it was blammed/removed from public view. Content that is sensitive for NG (like real porn) will have the project wiped, so you don't have to worry about that.

Projects are on the ungrounded.net servers and the links allow you to also run content offline for testing as well as compare submissions. They can be found within the submission's page.

I wouldn't want to cross boundaries again so I'll let much more experienced users correct me on this (we're just regular users trying to help the NG moderation on a BBS thread, not the site's administration).

Seeing how @ioxTV's Allanbuzzy apparently assumed we (Anonymous-Frog and myself) were part of the moderation (or worse, Tom Fulp himself maybe, or his lawyers) for investigating on the case and reporting the channel for directly borrowing content from NG (the guidelines are clear on this, it's not even a copyright issue in many cases) and submitting it under their account, I'd like to clarify on this a bit.

About Allan's angry discord response, I'm also not a guy, but this is irrelevant. I also have zero clue about what Machinima is.

Sorry for the long post. As for Portal Duty:

Thanks a bunch for the exhaustive response. And no, I'm not here to farm points, I genuinely want to help out. I've had experience moderating large heaps of content somewhere else and decided to volounteer a bit here. I just figured I'd improve my way of handling things so that mods would have an easier time sifting through my reports. I noticed lots of content is reported here too, but I don't always do the same whenever I stumble across abusive content.

Thank you again for all your help!

As someone who played a SHITTON of mugen relatively recently, I can say that I've never heard of it being converted to HTML5. Always been its own separate exe as far as I always knew.
