It's not news, because it's not a thing. Speedpaints are allowed. However, it's up to you what you want to vote on them. Obviously, all are not the same. Some are WTF?1 Awesome!!, and then there are the WTF?! (NSFW) ones that should almost be removed.

I'm p sure Decky didn't mean that they're against the rules, just that he personally doesn't think they belong. I would agree with that, I get that they're not really out of place on NG but it just feels wrong to have them alongside proper animation submissions and sometimes getting trophies in their place.
I can't logically argue that they don't belong, but imo the Portal's overall quality and effort is diluted by having them.

Speedpaints should all be judged fairly. Some will be good and others not so much.

2017 was an interesting year for all of us. Here in the Barracks, we did some much-needed housecleaning; inactive members were dropped off the active duty roster, and many of those active were promoted into Officer positions. Every month we see that all members have some activity, each contributing to the greater good that is Newgrounds. Our proud tradition of leading by example and being the first line of defense against those who flaunt the rules, break laws and are otherwise unwanted continues to set high standards, and it all makes me very proud and very honored to be part of it all.
We are fortunate that most of our members are Mods (EGSC @Asandir, EGSC @Big-Boss, Cmdr. @ Decky, EGSC @Exedor, EGSC @GameJunkie, EGSC @Jolly, Sgt. @ADR3-N , Sgt FC @ZJ and yours truly) which empowers us to act quickly on rule-breaking entries and keep in constant contact with Tom when hard decisions need to be made.
Overall, 2017 did bring out the best in us, and I hope that 2018 is even better still. You're all great people, and it is a privilege to be part of the EGB family. *Salutes*
