Well, what was the EGB founded on? Elite Guard Barracks? Was Barracks meant literally, or was it just a spiffy phrase slapped on to discern from the NGPD?
What purpose would the background serve, with regards to what meaning/anything you're trying to telegraph to this flash's intended audience?
Is this background prevalent throughout the entire flash, or is it just one scene? If so, apply above questions to that scene itself. Or something.
I know my typing is scattershot by nature right now, it's exacerbated by the fact that I just had to try that 5-hour Energy Shot I saw on TV. And migraine+panic meds. Hilarious combination, like a poor (wo)man's speedball. Except without the illegal street drugs.

Yes, if you vote 0 on a submission while it's under judgment and it gets deleted later, you get a blam point. It happens when Wade deletes a bunch of spam flashes in a short time, busting everyone's blam points. This also encourages us to keep voting 0 on shit flashes, even if they will be saved.

I think that there would be different backgrounds based on the settings at the time. For our home base, I'm thinking something like a Military installation in the desert - lots of flat land, nothing else around. We would have both above and below ground hangers and complexes, so that what was visible would only be a small part of what we are and what we have.
Now, imagine near by off the main road, a large series of rock formations that create a rounded frame, and within that frame, an obvious man-made electronic gateway - the Portal. (think something like Star Gate). We have guardhouses at the portal, with direct communications to the rest of the barracks. The portal is monitored 24/7/365 - it never sleeps, and neither do we.
Flashes come in through the portal on a regular (or so) basis. When they arrive, they are purple, and stand for judgment. Besides our team, there are representatives from the NGPD and other groups, and all of us review and weigh each flash on it's own.
Those that are merely poor or beginner fodder, we'll usually let pass down the road to find a home in NewGrounds city. But those that are malicious or spam or inappropriate, we fire at without prejudice - and those that die are tossed unceremoniously into the Obituary graveyard.
Some days the portal is quiet, and on others, we could be flooded with spam and junk. In the sake of fairness, there are always groups of spammers and mass-voters present, doing what they can to preserve their trash. Sometimes they win, and the trash heads toward the city. During this flood, we take out our heavy equipment and call upon all the troops to fight the good fight.
But in the city, by the main gates, there are a group of citizens called "mods", who will get reports of flashes that are coming their way, but deserve another review and possible deletion. We contact them when flashes get past us that we think are violating the City of Newground rules. If they think so, they will run it up the flagpole to the leaders of the city - Tom and Wade - where they will have the last and final say on the matter.
Just from these ideas, we have many different views
- above ground military base - far view
- zoom-in views of our war-room, communications center and sleeping/rec area
- underground military base - where we keep our records, weapons and heavy gear
- pan-out view of the roads with our base between the portal and the city of New Grounds
- the image of the portal, and those around it
- the graveyard
- the road leading to the city
- the front gates of the city, with mods in the guard towers.
There's probably more. Remember, each flash is going to show part of this world, and all the parts eventually will show the entire picture. The initial story sounds like it would start in the military base, during a quiet time where a few members are in the rec room, taking it easy - when Slash comes in and starts handing out second assholes...
This is just my idea. Hopefully, it will fit in with other Barrack members ideas, and you'll get the "A-HA!" moment where you can picture the scene clearly - and then draw it.
Hope this helps - BTW, I'm doing some homework and test development on the sprite generation. Looks like I may go with an original design, as that gives me more flexibility in colors, movement and character development - and less chance of someone complaining that we plagurized a video game.

(AYB REFERENCE!!!) Now if only I could get this with a pad. Sadly I don't have one but hopefully I can get one by my birthday, 7/17.
I could draw the backgrounds for your flash if you like, the past 3 years since my last flash animation, all I really do is study art and draw stuff on Adobe CS3 including backgrounds.

Well, the Barracks was founded before the NGPD and I think that it was just a play on the fact that any rank of private or above at the time had the prefix "Elite Guard", so EagleRock played to that, as if we were really soldiers hell bent on protecting the portal.
It's gone from there over the past few years, but thinking about it, we haven't strayed too far from the original mission statement.

Yes I hate it when the same author keeps submitting the same flash over and over again Chris Beer did that and it was annoying still he has now had his account deleted again. Well reading over about the flash it sound exciting. Of course I don't have a clue when it comes to making flash games or movies. Anyway notice about P-Bot being a day behind? You mean on the pic or the flash I had an alert for a few hours ago? If it's about the pic, then thanks. Like i said, it's only a mock-up and is a work in progress. Oh, I was talking with Corky over AIM and he told me that he won't be able to get his microphone until the 15th of August so hopefully I'll have my tablet by then. Once I have procured a tablet for myself, getting the backgrounds done should be much easier than by a mouse pad. That is annoying beyond belief, I tell ya.

Yeah, I also make some icons every now on then. Some people may think this does too little help, but at least you're improving NG and it's a good thing to do in your free time :)
Also, while making icons, I usually scroll to the bottom in the icon helpers page, because the flashes at the bottom are the most recent.

To be honest, I think that it's picked up a bit since Bahamut got the update prepared and released. Given a little more time tonight and I might be able to set myself up for a good charge over the next seven days.

Well, I don't consider myself "normal", and not a /'guy/' *checks down pants and confirms statement*. But that's okay - I've been more active here as well on the NG Logs pages and site.
You might get a break - I'm finally working again (part time) so my B/P and portal time took a little hit - only getting about 60+ a day now. It's okay if you get back to the top again - I can't stay on top forever. So, please, go for it!
