Hello there! I'm the Barracks Recruitment Officer, Supreme Commander Slash Firestorm. While I'm glad to see your interest in the Elite Guard Barracks, I must regretfully inform you that you do not meet the admissions requirements.

To be considered for the Elite Guard Barracks, you must be of Private rank or higher (2500+ B/P), and have an advanced whistle (Bronze or higher).

Anyone over the rank of Security Guard (400+ B/P) can apply to the Newgrounds Police Headquarters, where they can work on their B/P'ing, whistling, and other skills until they reach Private.

If you have any questions about Newgrounds, the NGPD/EGB, or anything, feel free to PM me.

Cool thanks for the link I did not know there was a collection for games with medals and what a good idea to add one to an old 2002 game. I caught that game under judgment it was cool but I did not have time to play it. My weekly b/p ending is now 36 amazing for me. I got lots on Pico day. But yes its better to have quality rather then quantity. Cool for the people high up on the list. I have seen a few Pico movies good some of them.

Thanks for the update, Ismael. Great stuff.

Glad to see that I'm still closing in on the people above me for the most part, according to the B/P ranks 51+ and totally, according to this update.

Top 5 Gainers
byteslinger - 2,607
KrevZabijak - 1,866
Coop83 - 1,360

It's going to be a trial to see if I can get up there for May as well - I've suffered a large loss of B/P time due to my best friend's wedding, yesterday. Still, that stress and elation is now a thing of the past and a lot of fingers were pointing at me yesterday, stating "you're next!"

Anyway, that aside, I've still got the day off work tomorrow, to try and make up for lost time.

Took me a while to figure this out, but when he barfs up those snail things, move to the top left corner and they'll miss you. Move back and down when he shoots the laser beam, and move forward when he makes the placenta drop on you.

And while you're doing that, just hammer on the A button until he dies.

It's never too late for recruitment; however, the minimum requirements for admission are being Private rank or higher (2500+ B/P) and a Bronze Whistle or better. Just having those stats is not a guaranteed in; that's just when we begin the discussion process for admission, which involves examining post quality, reviews, flash/audio submissions, B/P ratio, etc.

If you have any questions about B/P'ing or whistling, feel free to PM me.

*Sigh* It got through again. I'm going to say what i said to the NGPD:
I think its time to start upping the rules of the portal and maybe getting some ideas together on HOW to stop these guys getting through WITHOUT mass voting...

You know, its a silly idea since we can not do much but I mean, how is this club actually protecting the portal in any way? The fact that yeah OK we are pointing out stolen and abusive flashes is great but isn't this club ALSO about beating spam?

Besides of what you mentioned (using our whistles on rule breaking submissions), we try to spot users who use alts to submit more than 2 flashes per day, as well as possible award stealers, or file swappers (people who submit something and then swap the file after it has passed judgment to something completely different).

There was some talk about award stealers not long ago. The best thing to do is to give a fair review to those flashes who have a chance of stealing underdog, and ignoring the ones who are trying to get the turd.
(See: PSA 1 and PSA2 by SlashFirestorm).

Spam won't bother anyone after some time since even if it remains in the portal, no one will see it. The only bad thing is when they steal awards, usually due to them mass voting their own stuff, and people voting 0 constantly trying to lower their score after it has passed judgment (which is actually helping them). The best thing we can do in this cases is ignore those submissions (not voting 0 on them if they have already passed judgment), and tell people how to do what's right (Again, see Slash PSAs).

But if you have some extra, new ideas, of course we're open to them, as long as they help the portal in a legitimate way.

Well, fresh out of the NGPD, I have come here to request permission to join. I believe I meet all the static guidelines (Private, Bronze Whistle, etc.), but my review and post quality is up to you..

I'm sure many people know me from previous encounters, so, uh, "Hey" to them ;)

Hello, welcome to the barracks. I'll help save Slash some time and effort, and I'll give you the rules and guidelines of our organization:

First, I will present you with the shortened code of conduct for the Barracks, along with links to the relevant FAQ's on our forums. You must read them, understand them, and post here again confirming that you accept those principles. A simple "yes, I agree" will be sufficient. This process serves two purposes:

1) Ensuring that you're not a "drive-by applicant" who asks to join and then never comes back, and

2) Ensuring that you know how we operate so there won't be any complications in the future, such as "wait, we're not supposed to be mass voting?".

After you agree to the code of conduct, the Barracks community will discuss your qualifications and decide whether to allow you into the group. Our requirements aren't too strict; beyond the main qualifications of 2500+ B/P and a Bronze Whistle or better, we'll be looking for sufficient post quality (low number of one-liners, intelligent posts that contribute to the topic), helpful reviews, any potentially problematic flashes, stuff like that. After discussion and a vote, I'll make the final call and PM you with the results. Assuming that no objections are raised, the process usually takes a day or two.

Here is our abbreviated Code of Conduct. Read it, learn it, and post again with confirmation of your understanding. If you can't abide by these principles, say so.

*****

1. Voting fairly.

This is the foundation of the Elite Guard Barracks. All members are expected to give every flash a fair vote, regardless of who made it or what their group affiliations are. We do not target any flash group, not favorably or in opposition; our only enemies are those who break the rules of the site, not those who merely bend them.

Everyone has a different definition of quality, and all members are expected to vote based on what they honestly feel a flash deserves, not on whether they think the flash will pass or be blammed. While Barracks members are proud of their high ranks, and are eager to compete with others, a high B/P score means nothing if achieved through petty point-whore voting, and any member who admits to doing so will be removed from the organization.

2. Stopping Portal abuse.

Numerous stolen, malicious, and unsuitable flash are submitted to the Flash Portal every day, and it is our job to ensure that as many of them are removed as possible. Members are expected to report any suspicious flash to the Barracks, including any evidence or doubts that they might have, and only whistle something if they are sure, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it is whistle-worthy.

Just as with B/P, points mean nothing if achieved through inappropriate means. There should be no blind rush to whistle a flash that is merely suspected of wrongdoing; it's better to let an uncertain case go by rather than wrongly whistle an innocent submission. If evidence of wrongdoing is discovered after a flash passes judgment, we can always (and will always) inform Wade of our findings.

In the case of a beyond-reasonable-doubt rulebreaking flash, members are encouraged to share their results with the Newgrounds Police Department and the Newgrounds Department of Defense.

3. Cleaning up the review system.

Members are expected to be familiar with the review guidelines and whistle abusive reviews when they come across them, and report severe cases of abuse to a review mod. Additionally, members are expected to write helpful reviews, offering constructive criticism and remaining civil even when the author refuses to do so. We must set a good example for other Newgrounders, in hopes that they will improve their own reviews as well.

4. Setting an example for others to follow.

Barracks members are expected to post intelligently, contributing to threads rather than merely dropping a one-liner opinion on it. Flaming, spamming, and other ban-worthy behavior is strictly prohibited, and extreme misbehavior will lead to removal from the EGB.

Members are also expected to act civilly towards all Newgrounders. You are expected to be helpful and patient when dealing with newer members, whether simply showing them the FAQ or explaining more complex concepts that they do not understand. Concepts such as fair voting, intelligent posting/reviewing, and keeping an open mind are essential for newer members to learn, and we are just the ones to teach them.

For those with more experience, you are expected to show respect and understand that they may, in fact, know more about Newgrounds than you do, even if you're a seasoned veteran. This applies both to fellow Barracks members and Newgrounders in the general population.

Members are expected to put reasonable effort into any flash or audio submissions, and be careful with who they become Portal Buddies with. We are quite generous with our definition of reasonable effort; examples of unacceptable submissions would be static images, single frames, ridiculously small loops, or purposefully bad music. Anyone submitting rulebreaking content would, obviously, be removed from the Barracks and reported to Wade.

5. Not starting shit.

As mentioned above, the Barracks has no enemies beyond those who break the rules of the site. Our roster has included current and former members of various flash groups, including the Clock Crew, Barney Bunch, and Kitty Krew, and we are open to anyone willing to follow our principles. Barracks members are expected to be civil to others and not start fights, and anyone found to be starting shit with anyone, even if they deserve it, will be removed. You are representing the Barracks with your actions, and if your actions do not reflect our principles, you will not be a part of the organization.

6. Remaining active with the group.

Barracks members are expected to remain reasonably active in the thread, as well as with their duties. Those who are inactive for long periods (months) may be removed from the roster at any time, and rollcalls are occasionally sent out to all members to determine who is active. Members who expect to be inactive for some time due to IRL reasons (such as school, employment, vacation, etc) should inform the Barracks in advance.

I understand completely and that's what this is about, what about if we can come up with "other" things to do which will help fight the spam, I don't know but I was just opening it up for ideas mainly.

LOL that made me laugh I think one of the accounts is gone by the look of it. I don't know if they were trying to steal the awards, but I have noticed sometimes 10s in spam flashes that look odd. Anyway good job Malachy did hopefully tomorrows entry will be a legit one. Nothing wrong with liking spam flash I was only trying to help. The name of this thread itself is embarrassing to anyone with an IQ of double figures to participate and secondly it is almost impossible for a legitimate flash to win underdog for the simple reason you need 30+ good reviews to even be legible. The only thing that can win it is some crap videogame parody which is really doing the same thing.
Instead of pretending to be internet policemen how about being constructive and contribute something.

You see, we don't police the internet - we police NewGrounds. Now, for those of you who truly think that spam, childish penis videos, stolen work, swapped files and other trash really has merit here, well, you're wrong. Newgrounds is "Everything by Everyone" - which means you have the right to SUBMIT it. And we, as part of the community here, have the right to judge it. If we find that something breaks the rules, yes, we contact the appropriate mod. Truth is - ANYONE can do that by themselves at any time. We have no special powers, nor do we mass-vote up or down.

We do contribute something - balance. We are the Yin to your Yang; we bring order where others bring chaos. We uphold the rules of the site when others choose to break them.

And, yes, there are rules here. No one put a gun to your head and said "you will use Newgrounds only". Hey, if you don't like the rules here, then move on. Get some of your friends together and build your own site - and then open it up to all of the world to use. You'll see just how fast and how hard it will be to keep up with everything. And if someone does something that violates the terms of the hosting company, your site could be taken down in a minute.

That's reality. You do what you gotta do, and we do what we gotta do. And we will do it proudly...

Yes, it is great. It has some minor flaws, but it can't be perfect, can it? For example, although the default skin is great, it doesn't leave as much free space as I'd like it to. However, this was solved quickly due to it's customizable interface and its downloadable skins. Then, the worst thing IMO, is that it doesn't have a spell checker which marks your mistakes at the moment you write, which can be bad for people like me, because English is not my first language. It HAS a spellchecker, but the only thing you can do is run it when you're finished writing.

But yeah, I feel comfortable using it, and I may start using it permanently.

you can tell it's stolen by the "whited out" Nick logo and the blotted out part over the logo. Plus it's from the cartoon "Doug" which I think just got annoying after a few episodes. Ugh.
