Hey, other than elections (and to sign up), I've never needed an e-mail address and no one needed mine.
It's useful. Believe me. I have people e-mailing me about questions on the BBS and portal, just general "outside NG" chat, and heck, even someone sent me an e-mail thanking me for a post I made once...weird, but totally cool. I also stay in contact with James (FIGMENT) because he doesn't frequent the LUL much (I won't go into that).
I would rather have people being forced to read the FAQ or search for what they want to know before giving them the option to e-mail me (that wasn't worded properly, but you know I mean). Outside NG chat can be done with a chat program, and you sometimes get thanks on the BBS, not that I would be upset if I didn't get thanked. Other than staying in touch with James, I don't see how it can be more useful than the BBS.
First Internet Commandment: Thou shall check thy e-mail at least once, but not more than a dozen times a day.
I would have thought the first internet commandment would be something like "Get thou a pop-up blocker, period." or "Thy will use no other search engine than Google" but yours could always be the second.

Yes, congrats for being in the top 200. You've actually tried unlike the other 894900000 users.
Yeah, and it didn't help that right when I was getting close, I started having other distractions in my life. I actually managed to drop a rank before I finally got it together and broke through...
Relax, I could have had an account with an earlier sign up date and a higher level (which probably got deleted since I lost the password and didn't log into it for many months), but I'm sure everyone has something that they could have of had, but didn't because of some problem or distraction. At the end of the day, it's just a level or a number on a website, which can eventually be reached at a latter date.
