It's good to have you back around here Dogma, what are your plans for this extended weekend?
Hrm, not much actually. Mostly recuperating from the last couple of days I think. We were out drinking far too much far too late last night and spent 7 hours driving what should be 4 1/2 hours to get back here (well, 5, since we had to pop into Mass for a few minutes). 1 cm/hour rain storms a good chunk of the way back ... I get a call when visibility is down to maybe 20m ... "Wow, when it rains here, it really rains." Like 1) I can't tell that for myself and 2) I don't need 2 hands to drive lol
As soon as we got clear of the rain, found ourselves in bumper to bumper traffic. It turns out a "truck carrying animal fat overturned at the Lowell Connector" (primary way to get from Mass to NH) and they were, last I heard, expecting to take until 5 or 6 pm to get all the Crisco off the highway or whatever the hell spilled. The back-up route had accidents at exits 2 and 4, so we bailed off 93 at exit 1 and started piddling around the back roads to get back here. Exit 1 was, of course, blocked 5 minutes after we got through it from yet another accident. Ah well, getting us geared up for the nonsense we escaped I guess.
My best friend's (we've known each other 20 years now) boss is typically a nuisance to begin with, but the guy is getting married in a couple weeks, so has been even more of a basket case/bastard to everyone lately ... the kind of guy who swears left, right, and sideways at his employeess on a good day. Essentially, we both needed a break from reality and this spur of the moment thing was just what we both needed. I got a call late Tuesday:
"I'm getting the fuck out of here and going to Bar Harbor."
"Bar Harbor? Where the heck is it? What's there?"
"Don't know. I haven't been there in like 15 years. All I remember is it's in Maine someplace"
"Well, why don't you stop by and say hi and check out my new place?"
<whine>"Aw, do I have to?"</whine>
"Since it's physically impossible to take a land route to Maine and stay in the US without passing through New Hamphire, yes, yes you do."
<whine>"Fine. I'll see you in the morning."</whine>
At 9am I got convinced to pack and go with, so we ended up being essentially the only tourists cocktailing in Bar Harbor Wednesday and Thursday. We went whale hunting yesterday ... 10 degrees out on a 40m Cat doing 30 knots with us standing in the port bow ... talk about wind chill lol Literally, we're off the boat 10 minutes and the sun comes out, warms up to 25, and burns off all the pea soup we had been trying to find whales in. I'm still kind of ticked that they wouldn't let us off at Puffin Island and do this for real. Can't have everything I guess lol
Oh well, we had a lot of fun hanging out with the crew and there are actually a couple of pictures of me that exist now. I'm usually the one taking them (in part so I can avoid it lol), but biznatch brought their camera too, of course. The silly twit only took two whale shots out of 200 pictures from the last couple of days. I blew 8 rolls of films and a few dozen digital, most of them on the boat ride. I might consider putting one of the ones of me up ... if I can bother to go through the effort of getting that camera to actually download to one of my systems.
