Hmm... not really how I look at it. Then again, the money I would be 'pouring down the cludgey' is not actually money I earned myself. Perhaps I would look at it differently once I get a decent job and earn my own money.

But when I'm done studying and get a job I'll probably look for a house anyway. I expect that I will earn enough and my gf probably already has a job at that point.

The difference between my £75 per week all inclusive rental with my parents and the £800 ish per month for the mortgage, food bills, and utilities means I would be living hand to mouth.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to move out, as it would help to get me away from family problems. I will find a way and move out eventually, but I'm still viewing myself as above the nerd that lives in his parent's basement. I decorated my room in lovingly garish colours, I help around the house and pay my way, while maintaining a respectable job.

I don't know how bad these 'family problems' are you're talking about. If they are really getting in your way I would say that even getting an apartment would be a good thing to do.

Well it would teach you to save your money and not waste food and other things, which is only good, but it's not the most comfortable living situation.
