Man, what a disappointment Clock Day turned out to be. While I got 235 saves with Bahamut7 and gained two ranks as a result, I expected more. Hopefully next year will be much better than this one. The only good thing about the less amount of submissions for this Clock Day is not having to go through as many submissions.

And to think we were disappointed at the performance of Clock Day 2009.

That and angering a dragon is even less wise than an admin.

I'm sure the admins aren't afraid of a dragon. If they've handled a lot of chaos over the years with flash crews, a dragon doesn't mean much to them.

That also makes you the luckiest man on Earth! Congrats to you both, and may this be the start of a lifetime of happiness together. Mazeltov!

As for Clock Day, it was nothing compared to last year. This year, a little over 400 submissions, and most were crud. I pulled an all-nighter, and managed 1 blam (out of at least 80 attempts) and 260 saves. It did help me squeak past 57K total BP, though.

Last year (2009) we had over 800 Clock Day submissions, and in 2008 there were over 1,000. It looks like Clock Day is rapidly becoming a "non-event" here at Newgrounds. Bad news for stat-whores, but good news for the rest of us.

Oh, well. Time to get back to your lives, citizens. Nothing to see here...

Yeah the general mood of thing yesterday was pretty poor. I don't know what's was up with all the negativity. I guess since the staff didn't seem involved as in past Clock Days, this year's Clock Day just was pretty aimless and lacking heart.

The absence of any admin was also something. By the time the clockday header was put up, it was already 8 PM here in Europe and not even a single "happy clockday" newspost... I get that it's Sunday and it's not really a workday for them, but just a silly little post and putting the banner up sooner would've been nice.

I'm not sure if they are really busy or just apathetic to Clock Day now. The side banner have been the same for the past two years. I just think that the whole concept of flooding the portal is starting to get old for them and the community. I don't remember who said it, but somebody said what's the point when spam already gets passed regardless of Clock Day.

Those are my thoughts on clockday and what might've been wrong with it. I hope next year will turn out to be better, but I doubt it. Especially now that the newer generations haven't seen a really good clockday yet and they probably won't care so much about it anymore at some point. It looks like it'll be a party for the older users eventually.

I hope for the best. It's going to be the tenth anniversary of Clock Day so it will be definitely better, but thereafter is another question.

Listening to:
Anvil - Speed of Sound

My third new CD. I also bought Blind Guardian - At the Edge of Time and Iron Maiden - The Final Froniter.
Both are great albums, but I have to listen more closely to them, especially to the Guardian album. The only Guardian album I instantly liked was "Somewhere far beyond", for all the other albums after that I needed some time to truly appreciate their epicness.
And the Anvil album? I instantly thought: "Wow, this is great!". One reviewer called them "the best metal band that never made it" and he was right.

No, the framework tells me I should finish in 9 semesters. But most people need 12 or even more semesters. Next semester will be my 11th.

Well you're doing good then I suppose.

I got 3 years for my bachelor, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna take me at least 1 year longer. In my studies that's quite normal =/
I wonder who works out those frameworks anyway. Those people seem to think that a student only lives to study and learn and has more than enough money to pay any tuitions without having to work in a sidejob.

Heh, well in Holland the government practically gives you free cash so there isn't much need for a sidejob (that money is for paying your study, but most people just use it for other things). But they're gonna stop that soon, so yeah... soon we'll be needing sidejobs indeed. They're also gonna put up new rules stating that you have to completely finish your bachelor before you can do your master, so students here are getting fucked here pretty badly.

Oh well, if we just play in the Western borders of Switzerland and Holland, South in Belgium and North in Denmark I'm pretty sure nobody would speak German. That still leaves Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, but only three people live there anyway so that's no big loss.
But I want to play shows in my home country as well.

Too bad. The name is too awesome to be cast aside.

Swaffelen.

I bet you would do that 'sch' stuff, but the UK'ers will probably have most trouble with it.
There are some "sch"/"sh" sounds in the english language. If you are talking about a "sh" like in "shoe", that is.

Yeah, but can they do the 'swaf'? And you're not supposed to do 'sch' by the way.

Yep, we do that ggggg, but even in Holland there are certain regions where people can't do that.
I always wince a bit if people here say "van Gaal" with a "g" like in "Go".

Lol, I can imagine what it sounds like. Yeah the ggggg is hard and I believe there aren't many languages which use it.

And "ei" and "ij" are the same here. I don't know why we actually have different ways of writing them =/
Because they are different languages? :P
Some languages have the character "ÿ" in their alphabet, I read it derived from "ij".

Hmm I believe in the older dutch language they only had the 'ei' so you might be right in that it is taken from another language at some point.

I have to agree that the 9th clock day was AWFUL. Hell, even the spam flash wasn't that awesome like in the past years, I don't know what happened to the Clock Crew this year. Maybe they are wrapping the good stuff for the 10th anniversary? I don't know.

This year the CC disappointed me...

A boing? I dunno about you but I don't think those things are capable of boing-ing based on the pictures I saw. The description seems to make light of the situation, although at this point I'm sure you do too. It's a great conversation starter.

My room infested with little baby bunnies? I dunno if that's really a bad thing. :P

I'd be nervous to leave a cat outside. Every time people tell me they do that I just think, if I had a cat it would totally run away. Cats don't like me.
Hmm, my cats stay home at night, during the day they are free to... do cat stuff. =P

I bet when cats are alone they become the cats from the musical "Cats" and start dancing and singing. I never trust cats for this reason.

And cats seem to like me. My cats like me, the neighbour's cats are starting to like me... I hope I don't become that lady from The Simpsons...

One video in particular was horrobile, but it has been taken down by the uploader. He was right in the huge crowd that tried to reach those stairs.

I'm glad he took it down. Knowing the details is overwhelming enough, but witnessing them is just too much.

Does anybody know the cause of the panic yet? It must have been pretty major to cause a stampede like that.
From what I read so far it went like this:

It's like waiting in line for a roller coaster, only on a much larger scale. The wave effects make sense and I can see how they can get out of control. The fences...I'd rather not talk about people being nearly crushed to death.

The strangest thing is: Other people standing right next to where the panic happened didn't even realize the situation was serious. They had enough room to stand comfortably...

That's horrible, but at the same time in such a large crowd, how could they have known? I think the police or the security could have done a much better job regulating the crowds, or at least of informing people about the situation.

It was a problem, but not anymore. I guess when you know you'll go to college for free for football and know that you even have a chance to play professional football that it get's pretty bad when you don't even know if you'll be able to run like you use to be able to. (Which I can't)

Yeah, I kinda understand that. I guess it would be like losing a lung right before an audition for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or some important musical institution for me. I'd have a horrible time getting over it. Glad it's gotten better for you.

I got over it when I played one year of semi-pro ball. I was quite good and could handle it both physically and mentally, but after so many years off I had just lost the heart to play ball anymore. Now I'm not in great shape, but I can hold my own. I won't be back to break school weight lifting records Fro anymore, but I can still lift with the best. I usually take around 3rd place in competitions.

Third place in lifting competitions and supposedly not in great shape? You must be in better shape than I am.

Those are two excellent choices.

Both are great albums, but I have to listen more closely to them, especially to the Guardian album. The only Guardian album I instantly liked was "Somewhere far beyond", for all the other albums after that I needed some time to truly appreciate their epicness.

In that case, you should be able to enjoy At the Edge of Time. Just wondering, is there any Blind Guardian albums you don't like?

And the Anvil album? I instantly thought: "Wow, this is great!". One reviewer called them "the best metal band that never made it" and he was right.

Am I really missing out on something this good?

Seriously though, I think traveling at a young(er) age is much better.

When you're older, you're more likely to have a job with a better wage. For me, I only have a 6 month contract.

And that's why it's amazing how you made that post without a monitor.
I was extra careful while typing, so I didn't slip up.

You were lucky that time.

Well, if you didn't use any at the time. :P And besides, you told me your monitor exploded again!
It did. But I found another one in the stairwell. And this isn't a joke! I had to get some things from the attic on Friday and I used the stairs (I live on the 11th floor, the attic is on the 16th floor) and there was lying a monitor...

You really need to stop having these monitors exploding.

Nah, it's not a trouble making those icons at all. Most of them only take 30 seconds.

I just checked this Tommy's whereabouts and I like how he is the director, writer, main actor and producer of his own shitty movie :p I'm actually starting to feel like giving it a watch someday.

Your loneliness is making you blind and naive.

Naive maybe but blind? Nope! I can see her clear as day that she's a dragon. NOW GET OUTTA MY WAY!

Well, I wouldn't mind having tons of pictures of myself but then I'll feel guilty for those who hardly got any pictures because of the attention I received.

Well you're doing good then I suppose.

Yeah, I guess so. It's always comforting to meet other people you started studying with and learn that they are even farther away from finishing than you are. XD

They're also gonna put up new rules stating that you have to completely finish your bachelor before you can do your master, so students here are getting fucked here pretty badly.

I think it's like that here as well. But I'm not really experienced with this Bachelor/Master thing. I only know that nobody seems to like it.

But I want to play shows in my home country as well.
Too bad. The name is too awesome to be cast aside.

Then we have to find a better name.

Oh yeah, I misread that. But why should I do that "sch" stuff if I'm not supposed to do it? :P
So, how is "swaffelen" pronounced, then?

Yep, we do that ggggg, but even in Holland there are certain regions where people can't do that.
I always wince a bit if people here say "van Gaal" with a "g" like in "Go".
Lol, I can imagine what it sounds like. Yeah the ggggg is hard and I believe there aren't many languages which use it.

I think in the arabic language you have it as well, but other than that I too don't know any languages with such a sound.

That's horrible, but at the same time in such a large crowd, how could they have known? I think the police or the security could have done a much better job regulating the crowds, or at least of informing people about the situation.

Yeah, it was terribly planned and of course no one takes responsibility for it...

Those are two excellent choices.

Of COURSE!

Nope. Well, maybe the cover album, but I only know a few songs from that album.

However, some albums are pretty hard to get into, like "A Night at the Opera" for example, because of the very complex material. But it was never like: "That sounds bad!" when I listened to a new Guardian album. It was always a bit like: "Oh, this sounds... different." and then after 2 or 3 play throuhgs I was like: "Oh, this sounds... awesome!"

And the Anvil album? I instantly thought: "Wow, this is great!". One reviewer called them "the best metal band that never made it" and he was right.
Am I really missing out on something this good?

Anvil - Speed of Sound. Listen for yourself. :P

I think it's best to travel while you're still young. Your body is much more resilient at that age, so you can stay at cheap youth hostels and the like and you don't have to spend as much money. XD
Seriously though, I think traveling at a young(er) age is much better.
When you're older, you're more likely to have a job with a better wage. For me, I only have a 6 month contract.

When you're older and have a job with a better wage it's much more likely that you don't have that much free time to go traveling. ;)

It's not my fault!

That's more like it! However, we've already heard about my dragon magic. NEXT!
I'm not that creative.
Maybe reverend can do something for us. ;)

I hope so. :)
