I know, but every season he plays well, he's getting closer to those numbers. He should hit 400 HR next season (Needs 34 more) and he's climbing the rankings for most career doubles. He won't crack the top 100 for that next year, but he'll be close. Don't get me wrong, he's got a long way to go to pass Tris Speaker's 792, but at 30 (He will be by his next Major League game), he's got a legitimate shot at closing the gap substantially to that mark.
Between him and Ichiro, these two guys are making a march on the record books. You might say the same for Jeter as well (Couldn't resist a Yankee shout in there :P), but for now, it's mostly the Yankees record book. When he passes 3,000 Hits in 2011, people are going to start considering him for a threat for passing Pete Rose. I'm not sure as yet, so we'll see.Ichiro for sure. Jeter, I would absolutely love for him to pass Pete Rose. He definitely deserves it. Only 1509 Hits to go which is not totally impossible.
I'll sit on the fence now. I think any baseball fan would love to see someone as humble and team orientated as Jeter reach the pinnacle. He's concentrating on the Yankees record book (I doubt he's going to equal Yogi's 10 rings, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility, given that there may not be many changes to the squad, save for a potential acquisition of Doc Halladay (why?)
Yeah, but you consider that they got Peavy and Alex Rios last year, which gave them a boost for 2010 and combine that with the acquisitions of Jones, Vizquel and Mark Teahen at third base, they're starting to build up something good.Hmm I don't know. Peavy is good, Vizquel is pretty so-so and Jones would most likely be relegated to DH.
Yeah, because you just relegate a 10 time gold glover to the DH slot, when his only 'injury' is a fat ass. Get him a work ethic and he could marshal any of the outfield positions for the White Sox.

I truly think that players have only one stat goal and that is to reach 500 HRs because that always seems to be a guaranteed HoF requirement. Sure, the Doubles record is nice but Home Runs are the stat to have.

It's up to him whether to have some motivation to be productive. Clearly he didn't want to be in LA when he showed up plus twenty pounds. He took the deal in Texas to hope to start but he didn't really show anything and was just a fill-in guy/pinch hitter. It's going to be interesting to see what happens next season with the sox.

Oh yeah, but Jeter wanted Gehrig's record for hits, because he couldn't get the HR record, for example. Not all members of the 500 HR club are HoF worthy and not all HoFers are 500 HR hitters. Not even proper hitter, like Tony Gwynn, for example.

I guess I should have qualified that statement. Normally, 500 will get you into the Hall. Of course there are player HoFer who aren't power hitters like the aforementioned Gwynn but I guess it's just one of those unwritten rules. Do you see Fred McGriff entering the Hall first ballot? Probably not but if he had about 30 or 40 more HRs there is a better chance of it.
Geez these baseball players, what a bunch of statwhores.
mlb.com was saying that he wouldn't reject a trade to NYY or Boston. Personally, I don't think we need him.
Yeah, I just heard that last night on Sportscenter. He was going to wave his no-trade clause if he was traded to the Yanks; no mention of Boston though but I heard they might go after Lackey anyways.
