Lol, wtf? :p

I know The Edge doesn´t have a very complicated guitar style, but I don´t really get where that joke is coming from. Don´t recognize it all... =/

Well, he's playing Jingle Bells. The first bit, when The Edge is working is "Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, o'er the field we go, laughing all the way, bells & bobtail rings, making spirits bright, what fun it is to laugh and sing the sleighing song tonight."

Then The Edge fails and reduces him to plucking "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to ride on a one horse open sleigh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, what fun it is to ride and sing in a one horse open sleigh."

Apologies for the quality being so poor on that - damned mobile phones recording live gigs!

Yeah okay I get that he was playing jingle bells. First with heavy effects and then a "technical error" deplugged it and it becomes very simplistic. Ha ha.

I know the Edge´s style is relatively simple compared to some other guitarists, but don´t all musicians use effects to make their music sound better? And aren´t the effects also part of music making? =/

Well, I think that what he's trying to say is that U2 rely too heavily on this one effect - other acts don't use one effect as the sole basis for their songs, so he's a little peeved.

That could be. But I personally never noticed it up to this point, and it always sounds alright to me. Appearantly a lot of other people in the world aren't bothered with it either, considering their large fanbase. So I wouldn't blame the Edge or the band on it. Why would you change your style if people love you for your old one after all?

So anyway, I hope you watched the link that I made to the sniper for ya. Every single one of the 9 characters in the game will have an official video someday. So far only 7 have gotten it, we're still waiting on the German Medic and the ????an Pyro. #;-}>

This left me a bit of curiosity regarding each character's nationality. So I searched for it and found this, which seemed pretty trustworthy.

Now: do you play more with the engineer just because he's from Texas? =P

You do realise that millions more people know what a tetris block is, gamers or non-gamers... than know what/who Pyramid Head is, right?

I'd argue that makes a tetris block far more legitimate for a character battle, really.

Honestly, when I saw the final roundin Baha's character battle, I had to search to know what the hell was a Pyramid Head. It seems he's a pretty popular obscure character that I'd never heard of.

But I'd vote for a tetris block in spite of the Pyramid Head. I grew up playing that GameBoy tetris, so...

My father has quite a lot of LPs, some of them are excellent, like Queen's ''A Night at the Opera'', Pink Floyd (almost every one of them), Wings... He pretty much influenced my musical style. :)

Oh, and the huge cover art is, indeed, awesome.

Ah well. They can't live forever. At some point their music is either gonna disappoint you or they're gonna stop releasing it. One way or the other, it has to end.

At least this topic itself will (hopefully) never get to page 37000. Though it probably will get to 3700, and then I'll have to suffer through 100 pages. Or else just disappear for 100 straight pages (sounds better).

But then you'll have to catch-up those 100 pages... right?

Hahaha, thanks, I guess. It's because, in this catch-up, I wrote most things based on previous quotes directed at me. I could have rambled on for a lot more on other posts with silly comments, but I wanted to finish this catch-up as soon as possible, so I stuck with 4 posts only.

At 7/17/09 04:51 PM, Sir-Nuts wrote: Oh, and I'm trying to change a little thing in my posts. I only erase those lines when I'm doing a bit of a pyramid quote reply, and the overall post I'm trying to make is near the NG limit, so I have to watch out for space-wasting things. But yeah, for the most part, that extra line is important so things look visually clean and less confusing. Good change, mate!

I'm getting the hang of it, but I still find myself erasing the damned line. One thing that I did in this previous catch-up that i found quite useful was copying the whole post to notepad and checking if the lines were there or not. A little ''archaic'', yeah, but useful nonetheless. :)

Yeah, I should have let you know. Although I think it wouldn't work well, because I was playing mostly on Brazilian servers, and still I had ~100 of ping. Whenever I tried playing on a foreign server, that number raised to ~250, almost unplayable. So I just stuck with the local players.
Aw. That sucks. ;_;

I know. =/

What kind of connection do you have, and how far are you from the major internet backbone area of Brazil?

Well, I have a 1MB internet connection, which is pretty good, I suppose. The major internet backbone area should be São Paulo (everything is there, but WE are the capital, wth...), which is about 1100km (~700 miles) from here. I believe that most servers were held there as well.

Response to Wi/Ht? level up! Lounge 2009-07-23 12:56:25

Yes. I can't buy it online, since you need a credit card for it. So the only legal option would be buying it on a store. I think the "Orange Box" is about R$100,00 (U$ 50,00).
Man, it's a lot cheaper in the past year most other places. It shouldn't still cost that much over there.

But here's Brazil, land of the political corruption and burocracy. =O

I went to a store the other day and saw that a PS3 game was about 50/60 dollars. That's why there's so much piracy in here. Another reason why I ask my uncle to buy games sometimes, since he lives in Washington. :)

Anyway, worry not, me and Bahamut are gonna get just TF2 for you and Wylo, we just need a sale to make it more affordable first. Half-price off happens all the time for it, so it'll be here before you know it. If you're never going to be able to play with us due to ping, that kinda blows, but... you can still have fun on local Brazilian servers, at least.

Are you serious? But that's just... insane! I... don't know what to say! Are you seriously going to do that or you're just mocking me?

I remember reading about this. Molotov used to be the original X-Naut, right? And what was X-Naut's nickname before the change?
Story time! =) (erased on purposed to save characters =P )

Hahaha, so X-Naut really copied an old nickname of (now known as) Molotov? Heh, I wish I was around to see the whole fake-X-Naut thing.

I might be asking a lot, but do you remember in which page it started? Sometimes I lurk through old pages in the Wi/Ht, just for fun, and I haven't seen where this started. Although I remember seeing, whenever X-Naut posted, someone changing the name on the quote to Fake_X-Naut or something. =)

Years and years ago, many of us wanted a level system where you could DISPLAY any weapon you'd already earned in the past next to your posts and/or in your profile, if you liked it better than your current level's weapon. I so wish that system had come true with the redesign. But sadly, it did not. ;_;

Heh, I can see why. I remember lurking in General and recognising some users because of their levels (e.g. BonusStage; Ozcar). If they leveled up... man.

''Who's this new user?'' =P

Well... I think you should be a little more ambitious with gfoxclock and gfox, post-wise. Go for something like... 336 posts on each. Then you could leave all the achievement posts for them. =)
gfox has never posted, and I see no reason to start now.

Really? Well... I must have messed-up gfox with gfoxclock when you posted here.

HOWEVER... since I'm going to retire his exp and his b/p.... it's possible that I'll want to show off his nice level 42 sword every now and then, so maybe I WILL start to post with him (some) on the BBS. We'll see. #;-}>

Yeah, you can easily make 36 posts with gfox, just to show everyone the sword. =P

I can say that TF2 was one of the most fun games that I've played in a while. It doesn't have a serious ambient, unlike HL and CS, and the class variety is always a good thing. I really need to find it in a store.
Yes. It's very un-serious. Some people PLAY it seriously, take their skill at it seriously, or take losing/getting killed seriously... but all you have to do if you start taking it too seriously is LOOK AT THE SCREEN. It's so fun. It's meant to be a game, not a grind or a job like some games become to professional (or wannabe professional) gamers.

Hahaha, that's true! I played on some international server which had a reasonable connection (150 ping, not bad), and heard some guys screaming loooooudly whenever they died. Kinda unpleasent.

If things starts getting too serious, LOOK AT THE HEAVY'S FACE.

Gotta love the TF2s.

Indeed.

I think everyone would trade a 36 for a 99, in this case.
I'll take 136 instead of either of 'em. #;-}>

I'd rather 360. =P

Meh, this one could go on FOREVER.

I wouldn't doubt that, by the time I'm typing this, you're over 820 hours. =P

So yeah, I'll be over 1000, just like I told you a month or two ago, by the end of 2009, sure. #;-}>

All of that for a game that basically cost 10 bucks. It's the best value in the history of video games. Epic.

Indeed. Cost/benefit is really high in this case.

Wow, why isn't that on your sig? =P
Bleh.

Too cliché, right?

Yeah, by "active" I meant more than just depositing. For me, depositing is like a daily obligation. But posting/reviewing etc... isn't. So, for me, being "active" means doing more that the obligation. =P
Well... that blows, because my activity switches on and off all the time. #;-}>

True. So does mine, sometimes. =(

Depositing, to me, is still activity. But to all a different definition.

It's still activity, but not everyone notices it. Anyway, all to a different definition.

Correct! "This is a Call", to be exact. Now, I think that I shouldn't have mentioned the "begins with an F" thing. It made it too easy. =P
Awesome. Can't believe I got it. I have that album, but haven't listened to it in years, and I didn't remember those were lyrics from it. Was just a wild guess. #;-}>

Nice guess, then. I actually got that album this year as a birthday gift from my brother. It was the only album from Foo Fighters that we didn't have, so now we have the whole discography (excluding special versions & etc...) :)

OK then, just promise you won't change your quoting habits to something like "I ramble on for a whole page in just one post!!!" kind of thing. =P
Aren't they pretty much already there? #;-}>

Hahahaha, yeah. You ramble on for about 8 posts every time you catch-up. Even if it's a one-week catch-up. 8)

I enjoyed it, sure. But I'm also sure it could have been a lot better if my computer wasn't so old. According to Can you run it, I need, for the recommended settings, more RAM and a new video card. To sum up, a new computer would do fine. =P
Try more RAM first. RAM is really cheap, relatively. And it might fix it for you, though the "six guys on screen at one time" making your framerate plummet sounds really distressing... hmph.

Well, this computer is relatively old (2003), and it's unlikely that we'll upgrade it at anytime soon, so I'm sticking with the "new computer" possibility.

Also, that "too many people = too many lag" thing happened mostly under the bridge in 2fort. Especially when some random Pyro rushed into our base and set everyone on fire. =P

Heh, this reminds me that I have this old & dusty Rockets cap in my cupboard. It's circa 1998, because I remember wearing it when I was about 4 years old. 8)
You do? Awesome.

Yeah. It's red with a black front, with two little rockets on the sides and a big ''ROCKETS'' written in the front. Pretty neat.

Still, I'm pretty much ditching the TF2 idea. It's laggy, it's online (OMG VIRUSES!!!!1!)... Maybe I'll be old enough to have a credit card when TF3 comes out, right? =P
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooe. Don't give up. ;_;

Well, you kinda encouraged me now. =)

You need to talk things over with your dad and convince him that you won't get the computer all covered in virii just because you're playing a mainstream game online. O_o

Actually... I think he wouldn't care that much now. After the computer crashed with him a couple of times and he took a new part in his job (with special parking spot! =P), he decided to buy a laptop for his activities. So he ditched the old computer (which we use) and uses the laptop, most of the times (whic we use as lol. Actually, I'm typing from it now =P). He controls it more, of course.

He still asked me the other day what was I playing on the other computer and if it was online or not. But I'll try to talk things over with him. I know that steam is safe. =)

TF3 will be even more graphics intensive, and isn't likely to come out till 2020 or so. #;-}>

But I'll buy it, anyway. =P

I think I've said this before in here, but I consider Reel Big Fish's version one of the best covers ever - if not the best one.
I personally agree that it's the best cover of this song. However, my favourite cover version of a song ever is Spunge's version of No Woman, No Cry.

A couple of das ago, I listened to Muse's version of ''Can't Take My Eyes Of You'', and it's really good. I'm between that and Reel Big Fish's ''Take On Me'' and ''Boys Don't Cry''.

You (YOU) or you (Coop)? =P
No, that was definitely my girlfriend. I think.

So you definitely think it was your girlfriend? =P

Oh well... I still hope that he'll come back from the grave to dance "Thriller". =,(
LOL, that would be awesome, if slightly creepy.

It'd be the best publicity stunt ever, though. Faking your own death and, on your funeral, come back from the grave (literally). I still had hopes for his funeral, when everyone was watching.

I spent a shitload of time on the first two Gran Turismo games. I did borrow the third one time but it wasn't as great as its predecessors. :(

I played GTs 2, 3 and 4. I spent a lot of time in all of them, even though I never got to fully complete the game (in GT4, I think it had 98% of the game). I used to play NFS as well, but I got used to the GT realistic system pretty easily. I'm looking forward to GT5, whenever I get a PS3, that is.

Ouch, that's a nasty ping and it's worse when most servers have a ping limit. L4D seems more lenient as my sister and her boyfriend have gone over 300 (even 1500 one time) and didn't get and kicks or such. The game must have played like shit, though. :(

Well, the servers I played didn't have a ping limit (I think). Usually I was the guy with the highest ping, around 200. And yeah, the game wasn't the best, but I did get some decent international servers. Not too many people were playing on those servers, though.

Do you know how many times you were UOTD there, taking in consideration all your accounts?
Let's see...Five, being AfroBahamut, Helloween, LittleBahamut and my main account twice.

And 0 Nuts in there. =(

Even better achievements. I believe I have 105 points already.

Yes. I can't buy it online, since you need a credit card for it. So the only legal option would be buying it on a store. I think the "Orange Box" is about R$100,00 (U$ 50,00).
I'm not sure if The Orange Box is meant to cost that much now. It's only £20 here now.

I will say something in there soon...

Actually, if you check his activity over the last few months, you'll know he doesn't exceed 50/day as much as he used to. The one who is likely to win here is DrJam who appears to be more active then the top 3 B/P'ers.

Yeah, I've noticed that Afro's pace has dropped slightly. But he still has a great advantage over the others in the top 5.

Hahaha, yeah. I forgot that it takes time to catch-up, then some things get a little obsolete. =P

Look on the bright side - at least there aren't "OMFG leval 9 taiks 4EVAR!!!1!" users anymore! =)
EXACTLY! That's another good thing as to why the new level system is awesome and the old one is bullshit. The worst thing about the old system was how long it took one user to reach level 29. Like hell I'll still be here in 80 or so years time trying to get that level.

Exactly. There's a higher variety of levels and it doesn't take that long to reach them. And the amount of experience necessary to reach them is fixed, so we can calculate exactly when we'll reach them. It's much better.

As a matter of fact, I actually once considered stopping at one level because I refused to stay with that stupid staff for years. I was thinking of stopping at level 22 on the old system assuming it was still there. However, that plan has lost all meaning thanks to the redesign. :)

Really? I never thought of stopping at any level, mainly because I was only at level 9 (the damned level) when the redesign came. I had a favourite on, though. The chain (14, I think) was one of my original goals. I still think it's pretty neat.

At 7/17/09 04:56 PM, Sir-Nuts wrote: Virus issues with his dad
Ouch, I understand his concern for viruses, but seriously? He's worried about you possibly getting any viruses from Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2 and such? That's going too far considering these are online games by Valve, one of the most trustworthy companies out there. Their Steam client clearly suggests that as they require credit card details in order to purchase anything from their store and have they done anything besides acquiring legitimate money from customers? Not at all. :)

I know. It's a pity that he's too concerned about it. He even changed our anti-virus program (Norton to McAfee) because "Norton wasn't protecting shit". Valve's protection is great, I already told him, but he still refuses to believe. He has yet to understand that not everything on the internet is THAT dangerous as he thinks.

Sir_Nuts, that would be. But I have already added you guys, anyway. =)
Yes but it's good to remember incase anyone else you know wishes to add you on Steam. I did try looking up your ID on Steam but I put a hyphen in the URL and didn't even think of underscores for your name. :S

I don't know why, but I think Steam didn't take hyphens on the username, so I improvised with an underscore. My original plan was putting only "Nuts", but, as always, it was already taken.

Still, I'm pretty much ditching the TF2 idea. It's laggy, it's online (OMG VIRUSES!!!!1!)... Maybe I'll be old enough to have a credit card when TF3 comes out, right? =P
How bad are the lags exactly? I often get the game going to 15 - 25 FPS, even though my laptop is clearly capable of running it at 60 FPS. I believe either there's a Steam client issue or my internet simply needs upgrading. After all, I should be having 10MB and not a 2MB cable which is outdated.

The lag is what least bothers me. The fact that my dad bothers me and I have to play it hiding bothers me more. I think the game runs at 15 FPS as well, maybe slower.

Play it loud, don't play it low...

BLOW YOUR SPEAKERS!
FOR ROCK N' ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who enjoys their music. I still wonder why so many people hate them just as much as they hate My Chemical Romance and such. They're not THAT BAD, dammit!

I don't know much about Manowar, but I quite enjoyed what I've already heard from them. Especially this one, which is a real anthem. ;)

And really, hating them just because they look 'gay' is such a pathetic excuse. You might as well hate Judas Priest and Queen for their vocalists being homosexuals as well.

Good point. Not liking a band's awesome music because someone in the band is gay is just pathetic.

The worst part about people calling Manowar gay is the fact that Manowar have written a song or two about raping women. HOW can that be gay?

That isn't gay, but it sure isn't nice either.

Indeed. VRock is the best radio station on the GTA franchise.
Oh yes, I've had a lot of fun listening to VRock. As a matter of fact, VRock has made me want to get some of Twisted Sister's stuff, despite the 'glam metal' tag they often get. Quite frankly, I could care less about what kind of psuedo-metal genre they are when they make kickass tracks such as I Wanna Rock and We're Not Gonna Take It.

Indeed. Another thing that bothers me is how people love to label bands. Really, does it matter what genre the bads are? For me, there are two genres: good music and bad music. =P

Infact, I was hunting down in the music shops for Stay Hungry today but sadly, I didn't see it anywhere. :( However, getting the two Mars Volta albums for £10 combined compensates that.

Another band that I have to discover more. I've only listened to a couple of Mars Volta's songs, and I quite liked them. Any recomendations you could give me?
