Before I go on about Chinese Democracy, let me say something about myself and the Wi/Ht? forum. Tuesday marked 4 years of myself posting in this forum. Yes, my first post here was on 23rd December 2004, announcing my achievement for 100 flash reviews. 4 years later, look at how everything is right now. :) I never thought I'd still be here in 4 years time, but the last two years of being here proved me wrong.

Alright, here are my thoughts on Chinese Democracy:

Maybe I need to listen to this album a few times, but honestly, this is one of the most boring albums I've ever heard. Axl Rose's singing is so inconsistent throughout the album and most of the tracks on the album were uninteresting ballads. I'm usually OK with a handful of ballads in one album, but this was overkill for me. Apologies to the GNR fans out there, but 14 years for this album to be released wasn't worth the wait at all. I'm glad that:

1. I'm not such a big fan of Guns N' Roses.
2. I haven't been waiting for this album since 1994.

Listening to:

AC/DC - Black Ice. This album is decent. It's good ol' AC/DC. :)

Death Magnetic is a nice comeback for Metallica. It could have been better, but considering how bad their previous album was, I won't complain. A Matter of Life and Death is also great. :)

Yeah Death Magnetic sounds great, and yes, it could have been better especially about the vocals. James' voice is getting a bit weak, that's sad. Though I like St. Anger, the drum snare may be horrible, the rest of the album was great. The guitar sound was unique and they used a different riffing, I found it very interesting :P.

Well, this is not as big as your mark. After seeing your post i went and dug threw alot of my old posts and i found my first post i made in this forum it was 12/19/2007 and i been posting in this fourm just over 1 year now! My post was a sad attempt to help someone with a banner issue. I went from just helping out to get a higher post count :::about 1,500 at the time::: To inproving my spelling and grammer skills with alot of help from the regulars around here. It seems like it's been so much longer, i've only been here just over a year and have accomplished so much. A pic of it below.

Alright, here are my thoughts on Chinese Democracy:

Call me cocky, smug or whatever, but I always knew CD was probably gonna be crap, for a number of reasons *braces himself for verbal abuse from GnR fans*

Firstly, the obvious one, it took so long to produce that it was never going to live up to the expectations. Secondly, I always felt GnR were overrated. Apart from Appetite for Destruction which kicked ass, they've never really impressed me or produced music I consider noteworthy, yet they are still paced on a pedestal by many.

Thirdly (and perhaps my most controversial opinion), I believe that GnR are pretty much nothing without Slash. In my view he carried them for years, much more so than Axl (who's a whiny little photographer-attacking concert-stopping bitch), and the minute he left I knew GnR were pretty much redundant. Also, video related.

Death Magnetic is a nice comeback for Metallica. It could have been better, but considering how bad their
previous album was, I won't complain. A Matter of Life and Death is also great. :)

I feel pretty much the same way. DM was by no means "old Metallica" but it was a very good step in the right direction. My biggest complaint was that James' voice was a bit up and down. On the one hand, in songs like My Apocalypse it's almost vintage Hetfield, but in others i.e. Day That Never Comes it's just too soft and gentle. I know people say he blew his voice back in the 90's, but I'm not so sure, I certainly didn;t get that impression when I saw 'em live in Dublin in August ;)

Overrated? I agree. Appetite for Destruction is a good album, but personally, I don't think GNR should be one of the most well known rock bands of all time. And Slash, that would be another reason why Chinese Democracy wasn't so good. When I think of Guns N' Roses, I will think of Axl Rose and Slash, but sadly, Slash isn't in the band anymore.
