If they're muscular that's the reason lol.

Yes.

Also, how often do you actually use the gym at your university?

I don't because I can't afford to pay £180 (or £240 for the higher class of membership) just to join the gym. I brought my weights from home so I'm just using those for now to stay on top of it.

He looks like he's covered in tumours. Like Joseph Merrick with muscle definition.
And hi, not popped in here for a while. I'm waiting for my loan to come through so I can afford to buy decent food, living of pretty much nothing at the moment.

Fuck man I've been living off the same thing every day for the past like 6 months. I have my cheat meal once and week and that's about it. I really miss food but fuck it, it's about eating to live now, not living to eat. Oatmeal, brown rice, eggs, veggies, fruit, fish, nuts, chicken that's all I eat everyday.

Theres a lot you can do with that. I suppose you vary the delivery.

And I don't see the point in cheat meals really. But I really love chicken and fish, they'd be cheat meals if they weren't already good for you.

Well, my legs are kind of, but I'd be more inclined to say I'm skinny than muscular. I mean, about 5' 9/10" and 145 pounds? I'm not some roid monkey, that's for sure.

Yeah, I usually mix it up I add different spices and different healthy recipes every single chance that I can. But most of the time it I just smash up 8oz of chicken with a cup and a half of brown rice and some broccoli and other veggies into a big bowl.

The only reason that I have cheat meals is because I'm part time and going to college full time, not to mention when I'm not busy I'm usually out and about with my friends. It's almost impossible to eat clean all the time especially when I'm so busy. I carry food with me every single chance that I can but sometimes it's just impossible and I'm forced to eat out or starve myself for a few hours until I can reach a healthy food source.

Trust me if I could carry a cooler around with me full of food, I already tried it and my boss and friends hated it haha.

A cheat me for me really is a chicken sandwich with tomatoes wrapped in whole wheat Peta bread. The only reason I really consider it a cheat meal is because it involves me eating out haha.

Jew193 since when was anyone that was buff a roid monkey? you need to watch your choice of words their.

Does anyone want to take this over for me? It's the newgrounds workout plan that I made last year and I got into a lot of detail about it, but I just don't have time to finish it. It has an ab workout and a complete workout both short plans, long plans, easy, medium, and hard. I still wanted to do the legs and arms, short and long, easy, medium, and long, but just don't have time for it anymore. If anyone wants to take it over then just PM me and I can send you some files that will help you out and make it easier.

Sounds like I might be doing a contest pretty soon. I found someone to oversee my diet and training and he thinks I have good potential and he's willing to help me get contest ready.

I'm really excited.

I haven't actually joined the gym at university, but I'm doing Tae Kwon Do (which is a seriously good workout for both strength and cardio), and my flatmate and I have also joined the Territorial Army, which basically involves army training one night each week, for which you are paid a regular soldier's earnings.

So, yeah, keeping on top of the fitness, which is nice. I'm also looking to resurrect the Muay Thai club here at the university, as it's currently inactive, and I seriously want to cross train Tae Kwon Do with Muay Thai.

I imagine by the end of my degree I'll be pretty much carved outta wood.

I wish I could do that. Running by myself every morning sucks. The only friend I have that is regularly up that early though lives 20ks from me and I don't really fancy running to her house and back every morning.

So, I've decided I'm not going to be a fatass anymore.

See, I'm a Game Design & Development student, and when I work on stuff I drink Mountain Dew and other related colas. Over the course of two weeks, I drank about 60 or so cans of soda. I also ate shitloads of bad food.

I've cut back on the soda - I've switched to orange juice (it's sold WAY cheaper, and lasts me a few days before I need to get another one), but my question is - what's an overall generally healthy drink? Water is bleh (I don't want to pay for bottled water, and I want something tasty!), so I figured a juice of sorts would be good. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, how the hell do people get filled on those little tiny granola bars?

Natural juices are good. Orange, apple, cranberry (my favourite :D), whatever.
Anything other than soda is a step in the right direction.

You should drink water though. Buy a bottle and when its empty just keep filling it up with tap water.

Because they're full of stuff that actually fills you up and keeps you full. Mars bars and crap like that give you a short burst of energy but then you'll feel hungry again soon, so you'll buy more Mars bars. They're crafty like that.

Quick question. Which will burn more calories: 2 miles on an eliptical followed by one hour of strength training, or 2 miles on a treadmill followed by one hour of strength training?

Hey guys, you seem to know what you're talking about so I thought I'd drop by and ask a few questions if that's alright.

1. I've started working out at home by myself doing the regular things: weights (not very heavy ones, 10kg per arm), pressups, situps, planks and crunches. As you can see, nothing to big and it won't build me up very quickly. How could I build up a bit quicker doing these sorts of things at home? Even if it's just doing more, doing them more frequently, that's fine. I currently do them every night unless I've been up doing homework to the early hours.

2. I've heard conflicting views on this one. Does swimming build you up physically rather than just help you lose weight? I'd have assumed that yes it does but I've heard from some people that it's more of a weight loss and stamina exercise.

3. If I was going to set up a small sort of gym at home, what equipment would be the most useful to purchase?

Eat lots of protein. Add more weight.
Also its best to do weights every other day, as the days the muscles are healing is what makes them grow bigger and stronger.

Due to the cardiovascular nature of swimming its obviously more stamina and weight loss than muscle building. But I believe it has muscle benefits too.

Weights and bench are the main ones. Maybe a rowing machine or something for cardio, unless you'd rather go for a run or a swim or something.

Yeah, near when I started this about 3 months ago or so I managed to overdo it and I couldn't unbend my arms without a lot of pain. Now though I can go for ages without any pain the next day really, guess that means I should add more weight.

I was considering a bench and a treadmill mainly, treadmill being for the cardio of course. Although I thought this might be a waste as I can go for bike rides, runs and swims whenever I want really now that spring is coming around.

Thanks for answering the questions, I appreciate the good straight answers man.

Hey all, a quick question for you fitness guru's. I've recently quit smoking and plan on heavily cutting back on my drinking due to the word "alcoholic" cropping up a few times from friends and family. I think the fact that I started drinking at 11am today pretty much sums it up.

Anyway, I got in, a bit drunk and started lifting some weights, then I watched a film while doing some jogging and throwing a few punch combos. I drank a shitload of water and can feel myself sweating. My question is, on the social occasions where I do want to go out and have a few drinks, whats the best alcohol to drink. I'm trying to loose the "beer belly" so I guess lager's out? Whiskey maybe? Any advice, other than the obvious "something non-alcoholic". Ta.

I have no knowledge on this (other than don't believe the shit you hear about Guinness being healthy - just a marketing thing making shit up), but I'd imagine spirits like whiskey, vodka, wine or something would be your best bet.

And even if I'm wrong it'll keep this thread on the page longer for a more knowledgable person to come along.
