What I think he is trying to ask is if he can use his Keyboard (like how you type letters with) to control his synths and stuff in Reason. The answer is no, but I've heard of programs that can allow you to do that. Just look around google.

You can bind keyboard keys to remote override - so it can operate buttons and switches. As for notes, there is a link on the 'extra programs' on the propelleheads homepage for a mouse keyboard that also takes imput from your keyboard.
finally got reason (booyah... biotches)
so I've been tinkering with it and noticed that there's no conversion to mp3 format... which sucks. BUT... it gave me an idea... multi-program editing. Since reason converts to .wav and acid's compatable with .wav... you get the idea. Now I'm still tinkering with effects and keys and such, but I'll manage. I never realized that the learning curve was so steep X_X... good thing I pick things up quickly enough.
i have Reason 1.0 and a Zoltrix sound card with a joystick game port for connecting the MIDI...the problem is that i get the NO MIDI INPUT in the MIDI thingy in edit->Preferences Menu of the Reason..the sound card seems to work fine..and i have a Casio Celviano connected with the midi cable to the sound card....
any way of make this in some Manual mode in the Reason?
ideas...plz...im desperating...
Rucklo gave me the Reason Thread link...=P
I'm not familiar with Reason 1.0. Since I'm using the newest version. Trying going to advanced midi controls and check under Bus A.
Either that. Or your keyboard (which is freakin' expensive) is clashing with your outdated software.
it says NO MIDI INPUT....and my drivers work...i dunno what to do....
Uhh did you say your joystick was controlling your midi?
You might want to get a MIDI adaptor that plugs into a USB on your computer from your keyboard.
Is that what a Zoltriz is? Sounds sort of phat
Zoltrix is the sound card...i get a driver called MPU 401 and now the Reason 3.0 ...=D
anyway the Reason 3.0 Detects the MPU 401 driver which is the one that controls the Joystick port ( the one were i got plugged the MIDI CABLE)
everything seems ok but i play the electric piano and...sometimes it moves the Pitch wheel of the NN-19 Sampler....WTF!?? or sometimes doesn't do anything...in the control surfaces thingy doesn't detect the MIDI controller when i play the piano..
humm..
im starting to get REALLY REALLY MAD...
my friend has borrowed me Reason 3.0, since he got it cheaply via school and doesn't use it.
when i install it asks for a master keyboard, and says i won't be able to play the devices without one.
But i don't have a keyboard!
+i can't afford one, i'm not Bill Gates......
Is Reason any good without a keyboard?
another question, i've installed Reason, selected my sound card, but i get no sound, while the demo does give me sound.
how to fix this?
YEAH! I got Reason 3.0 working with my Casio Celviano AP-28 ;)
now i wish..pleeease if someone can handle me a NN-XT Advanced Sampler tutorial cuz....i NEED TO CHANGE THE SEMITONE AND I CAN't! HAHA!!...i don't know ...i used the Reason 1.0 and the NN-19 Sampler...but i don't know how to use this one..xD...which sounds great..
Can I somehow play a melody/drum line, and then Reason will automatically loop it,
without doing the annoying cut/paste routine?
Thx

Of course it is. You can hook up a Matrix Sequencer to an instrument or go into edit mode on the sequencer and draw in the notes.
For a while I actually worked Reason without a keyboard and I still enjoyed it/made good music.
Howdy guys, just got reason 3. Anyway I was wondering how to automate something (sequence) instead of having to enter it in piano roll manually.
Copy and paste isn't allowed.
Automation with using your mouse;
1. Arm record in the sequencer at whatever device you want to write your automation.
2. Arm record at the transport panel (it will be highlighted).
3. Scroll up to whatever device you want to automate.
4. Hit play (space-bar) and to start recording the automation. Now the chosen device records whatever knobs you twist and turn "live". In the picture you can see how the master level have been automated, and as you seem to know you can change this with simply drawing the automation in the proper place.
You can also program keys on the keyboard to turn things on/off, I've actually never found this usefull, and never done it.
I suggest you get yourself a MIDI-controller+ev. keyboard in case you will want to automate your things "live".
Personally I don't use my controller much, I'm used to actually draw every automation in. I would like to snap out of it and start using it more tho :)
When something have been automated, it will have a green square around it. In the pic you can see the master fader (from the previous example) having a green square, indicating it have automation written somewhere along the timeline.
I have M-Audio Axiom 25 controller, need go to Reason, how would I go about it?
I'm having so much trouble with automating. I followed Ruckie's previous post and armed both recording things, but it won't record what I want to automate (the modulation on the flanger). How do I get it to work?

I know it's a response to an older post - BUT - that's exactly what reWire is for! :)
Just reWire Reason through Acid - then use Acid's export... Lots of formats to work with there.
Oh yeah - and you can do a lot of other very cool reWire tricks too. Although it's tedious, you can remove your mixers from Reason and route all outputs through the 64 channels available in your hardware interface.
Then in Acid you add each channel as a reWire device (that's the tedious part) and then you can apply any of your VST effects to any or all of the channels - especially if you set up several buses from within Acid and get creative with routing your channels.

Yes. Absolutely. Especially if you're a student and order it from Studica for as little as $170

Reason extends life. Reason expands consciousness.
He who controls Reason
CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE
lol, Aphrodite FTW.
But seriously, Reason is fucking incredible. Buy one. Hell, buy two!
so if i bought reason... i could just rewire it to fruity loops or something and use both right???
but what about cubase..... is that a worthy prise to save up on...
I still need some damn help with automating, people.

hang on ya horny teen, i'll mspaint you to salvation, just a min...
If none of the other knobs on the flanger allows you to automate them it should be cause you haven't assigned any sequencer track to it, but it it's only that knob then I'm as much "wtf" as you
aight, this is how ya do it;
to be able to automate anything in reason, you must have the device loaded in an own sequencer track. When y ou create samplers, synths etc. this usually gets created by automaticly.
rightclick in the sequencer, create an empty sequencer track, then choose the device on the empty square thingy that comes up.
note that you can use the combinator to route things to its knobs n buttons, but you'll need to have controll of the combinator itself with a sequencer track.
i make a breakbeat lol

Plz don't make a breakbeat, they're scary,
oh and why did I have to realize that was why it happened right before rucklo came and mspainted it :[
Thank you so much! I feel so stupid that I didn't figure that out myself :(
