Do I need my own sounds to use the program, or does the program come with them?

It comes with a reasonable selection. But if you want to make your sound more individual, download some samples. I got given a CD of individual drum hits, and I downloaded some piano C notes in various octaves, because I didn't like the FL ones.

It comes with tons of sounds and presets.
I'm positive you can find more online.

I believe that the demo version still allows you to render audio. The demo won't let you save project files, though. Instead of clicking save or save as, click export and choose what you want to export. That should work. You probably have it closed by now, though.

help? is there a setting or filter that i can apply to make a nice sound?

IIt has to do with the quality of your software and your computer sound in general, but what's most important is the software; the thing about a synth emulator (especially a fruity one) is that they have regulated limitations, it's best to find what kind of file the synth plays on, and try to download other soundfonts, if that's what they are.

That's what I did with my Synth, I completely customized it with an open selection of soundfonts.

I have a question. Is there a regular piano sampler that can be used on fl? Or what about an NES sampler? If there is I can't find it. And if there isn't one, whats the next best thing?

Hum, do you mean a nice piano sounding channel? ('Sampler' threw me for a (har) loop).
I'm not quite down with the lingo, so I wont pretend to know exactly what you're talking about. ;)

But if you are in fact looking for a sound that sounds like a piano, for FL v3.56, under Packs > Hip Hop you can find the cheezpiano channel. Sounds great. There's also a Grand Piano channel that works too, but I don't have the filepaths memorized. You can search the FL directory in Windows for 'piano' too. Bound to narrow your search.

Yeah. I have been using FL a while now and I cant seem to get the FL peak controller to work. I tried 3 tutorials including the samples from the FL 5 folders.

I linked both channels to their correct mixer channels and added a peak controller in the one with the drum beat. Nothing. Any ideas?

i like to make 8-bit but i find its so much work to layer diff. osc.s just to get a convincing nes or commodore chipbit sound. I tried using programs in dos but in windows xp theyre all garbled up.

So... i either wanna just do it in reason or fl studio. Are there nes or commodore sound packs i can find? I tried looking for soundfonts with very little success. I want true grainy 8-bit sounds from the old systems. Can you help?

TheShrike mentions a program in the third post of this thread which will allow you to rip sounds from ROMs. I'm not sure if that'll help you at all, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Im sorry I ment to press press replay to a previewspost but I accidently pressed the other option, my question is where can I download the piano and or the other cool effects for the fl studio, I have a demo version though will that work?

Response to Ask your FruityLoops questions here 2005-04-21 15:51:37

The cool effects are known as "generators"

If you have the demo you can access them easily by going to your mixer (F9) or View >>> Mixer. Then chose the FX channel you want it in, and press the little arrow and you will get a list of generators. Then you can chose which one you want.

Anyways, can anyone help me with the peak controller?

I'll teach you all how to use controllers (including the peak controller) later today. For now, I have a class to get to, and then I'm going home. Sit tight.

Hehe thanks Rage.

Thats the only thing I can't do with FL. Looking forward to your lesson =)

Okay. Here's the basics of using a controller.

What is a controller?

A controller is a tool that lets you control any parameter without using an automation. (In other words, it controls a knob for you).

And how do I use one?

To use a controller, you need to link any parameter you want to a controller. This will be explained.

Fruityloops has three kinds of controllers.

Fruity Formula Controller - This controller allows you to move any parameter ("knob") by using a mathematical formula.

Fruity X-Y controller - This one allows you to link two parameters to the X and Y values on the graph.

Fruity Peak Contoller - This controller allows you to change a parameter depending on the volume of the signal going to it.

Here is a simple walkthrough on using the Fruity Peak Controller

First, let's start a nice, new, clean project.

Using the browser window (The one that pops up or goes away by pressing F8), go to the packs folder and select a drum loop that you want. Right-click the drum loop in the browser window and select "add to slicer channel".

You should now have a drumloop in the sequencer.

Using the browser window, open the "Channel Presets" folder, and open "3xOSC". We're going to use "String9" for this example. Click and drag the Strings9 3xOSC preset on to the sequencer.

Put a nice chord in the piano roll for String9. Make sure that it's playing at the same time the drum loop is.

Now, go to the mixer window (You can press F9 if it's not up already). Select any mixing channel you want (other than master), and add the "Fruity Peak Controller" effect.

Now, assign the drum loop to the same mixing channel that you put the Fruity Peak Controller in. Notice that if you play the song at this point, you won't hear the drums because they're going to the peak controller (Notice that you can see volume bars in the peak controller moving).

Now we're going to link the String9 volume to the peak controller.

Right click on the volume knob for the String9 channel. Select "Link to controller..."

In the "Internal Controller" section, click the drop-down menu. You should see three options. Pick the top one "Peak ctrl (FX #) - Peak + LFO.

You linked something to the peak controller! Press play and take a listen. You should hear that the String9 channel is exactly as loud as the drum loop would be (if it was playing). You should also see its volume knob moving like crazy.

By default, the fruity peak controller mutes the sound that's going to it. However, if you want to hear the same sound that you're controlling with, simply uncheck "mute" in the bottom right corner of the fruity peak controller window.

You can link nearly ANY knob you see to any controller. Try messing around by linking all sorts of things to the controller.

If anyone has any questions, or is having trouble going through this guide, please ask me.

If you want a demo of the neat things that the peak controller can do, you can check out this demo I made really quick by clicking this link. (Link goes to Fruityloops file).

I got a question.

Why use fruitloops when you can use real music software to origional results instead of limited sampling and beatbox meathods that produces pretty much the same style of music all the time.

Did ParagonX9, probably the most acclaimed music artist on the AP use fruityloops? No he did not. He used Reason 2.5. I use Reason 3.0, both of which are software which requires reasonable ammounts of musical knowledge to even get started in the first place.

Ok I appreciate its easy to use, and i'll even appreciate that not everyone is comfortable with Reasons hefty £600 price tag, bu t as far as I see it, any program where you dont actually have to be able to play an instrument isnt a decent piece of music software.

Fruityloops is to audio what Swish is to flash. Cheap.

It's people like you, you fruityloops using scumbags, that the audio portal hasn't been liberated, and that this thread (http://newgrounds.com/bbs/topic.php?id=259642) got locked.

FL is cheap all alone...It is a crafting tool. I use it and I'm able to get good results out of it. Also, not all songs made with FL are generic beatbox songs. Czer323's Techno Fun5 Fixed is a great example of what can be done with FL; and thats an old song. I'm not saying Reason is bad at all. It is a superb program. One that I will use in conjunction with Cubase SX 3 when I wire them into FL. But FL is a lot better than most people think, it just depends on how well you know how to use it and that plugins you have.

Ummmmm saying FL using scumbags isn't cool at all....aside from your hrash remark....I do agree 100% with what you had in your link about the AP needing blamming and stuff as well as reviews counting.

Response to Ask your FruityLoops questions here 2005-04-22 09:09:49

I agree that fruityloops can be quite powerful, when coupled with sample creating tools, but i'm just one of those people firmly against using other people samples. As to provide for a balenced argument, i've seen windows sound recorder used to amazing potential before.
