Can't you just record your music on a mic and then submit it?
It sounds a lot easier than having to download something just to do it.

it depends if you want to make real music, or digital music. if im gonna play guitar and sing, i'll use a mic. if i want to make a beat or something techno-ish, i'll use a program.
I use Cakewalk Music Creator. It works divinely, although I can't figure out how to use MIDI instruments...

Which Acid you use Acid Pro, Acid Music Studio or both?

Fruity Loops is very good for making melodies and stuff.
ProTools is good for making recordings and cut sound together. Like fadings and so on.
Culture is to society as cancer is to the body. We need structure, dicipline and no more relaxation.
No more gentle shit, pain is the fundation of a solid nation.
I'm curious, are there any free music making programs that are good? I do have money, but it's difficult for me to spend and I'm sure there are some very basic freeware music programs out there, however bad they are.
Anyone know of any?

I'm going to compile (with the help of others, such as the users who post in here) a list of music editors/creators. The list I have so far has several free programs on it, hopefully I'll finish it and post it later today. I'll post it in here and in the 'Suggestions for sticky' Thread, so people can see what I have so far, and add any ones I've missed. It's a fairly large list...

I changed my mind about posting the entire list in here, seeing as how it turned into a 2-post mammoth... so check it out over there...

Acid Pro.
If you would like to invest a big amount of money, then get Reason 3.0. It's amazing. It has everything you could ever want, including the most realistic sounding guitar pluggin I've ever heard.
Well, does anyone have any suggestions for real beginers? Like stuff that's pretty straight forward, and helps teach the basics and stuff

I can see this being a regular question. Maybe some members of this (very new) community will put together some basic tuts... in the meanwhile, here's a selection of links. I have no idea how useful they'll be to you. If you find any of them particularly inspiring, please post the links back.

I don't use anything, and I'm not sure I have any intentions of making any submissions to the audio portal. That being said, I have a couple questions on audio-related programs... I guess mine are more related to effects, rather than general use for songs, but I figured may as well keep all the programs in one thread than making more topics.
The equalizer in Winamp only has the frequencies 60, 170, 370, 600, 1k, 3k, 6k, 12k, 14k, and 16k. Is this standard, or is there software available with much smaller steps? I'm interested in filtering out and boosting very specific ranges of sound.
Next, is there any software available that gives you any kind of scripting engine to apply audio effects? Maybe you could see the waveform for a sound, highlight a section of it, then place a function or script on it? Functions may include adding different levels of echo, adjusting period of the sound independently of amplitude, etc.
Last question, this might be covered in the last program, but does anyone know of tone-generation and mixing software? This may not have much specific use, but would I be able to, say, create a 2kHz sine wave on one channel, a 3kHz square wave on another channel, and then see the combined waveform on a new channel?

Well, where should I post the links back? Should I tell you they were helpful and you make a topic and stuff, or what? I'm really confused.
whats the best to make techno ish stuff... or not necisarily the best, but one that's good and simple interface. maybe like the punk - o - matic or sumthing like that
What's the difference between Acid Pro and Acid Music Studio?
I use Garage Band, Fruityloops & Acoustica MP3 audio mixer.
I DIDN'T KNOW PARAGONX9 used FL Studio 5.... that SO ROX
I use it to, I feel among the l33t cr3w.
Fruity Loops 5. Has alot of limitations, but if you know how to work with it, and how to make it sound "costom" , then it's just good :) Reason is good aswell, but not my cup of Tea :) I prefer hardware music, like KingBastard's :D
Audacity for recording and mixing, The DeeSampler as a drum machine. Works well.
I don't have any audios... i think.. *cough*, but anyways, GoldWave is an awesome program, its free, and it has awesome quality :)
Cubasis for the recording and editing. It's a marvel because it's so versatile. And for the compression, I rely on trial copies of WAV-MP3 converters.

LOL, CoolEdit. I rememeber that thing. Those were the days when I was plugging the output of a distortion pedal right into the computer's sound card and wondering why it sounded so bad.
