Response to The Book Club 2004-12-06 15:23:25

Um, i vote 3 also. Because i have waaay too much on my plate to read a book a week. More like a boo ka month with me. And that is if i am really into it. I got soo much to do, and WOr is killing most of my spare time. Which i dont mind. : )

Thank you.But please tell me ,now I am accepting your vote but why did you choose three?

Response to The Book Club 2004-12-06 16:05:56

I wouldnt mind doing the read a book thing, as long as we can all agree and get it. However, i just cant do it in a week, and i guess i would be holding everyone back. I liked that idea tho...

:(

Hey LordSkeletor. You mind if i kind of swipe your idea for Writer's Guild.

Here is what i am thinking. I can write an online, continuous story. So i will come up with an idea and write a new chapter every week or something. Or new 'episode'. It would be kind of like RPGing, but only for me. And for others it would be a read. Maybe someone else would want to do it too and we can two going. Since this club needs some help, we can have one going here and the other going in WG. Each week, people review the story: commenting etc or discuss with others what they liked about it. Maybe even give ideas on what they think should eventually happen, though, ultimately, it would be up to the writer.
Hmm, i dunno? good or bad idea?

Response to The Book Club 2004-12-06 16:18:30

YAY!!! I'm in so I'll change my sig soon. My vote goes for number 3. Here is why: 1 is a very good idea. But I have books for school, other books, and a busy life. Maybe if it were a month or some other longer amount of time. 2 would just be way too hard for any of us to do so I vote for 3. But keep looking for ideas resembling #1. If we agreed on a book a month I would do that

Response to The Book Club 2004-12-06 16:22:52

Sure I dont mind .I'll think it would be good :)

Well I think its gonna be three that wins

Unless you can make it so its not a book a week .. i just cant find that much time for reading. As much as i'd like to. I bet everyone would agree that 1 was a great idea, i just dont know if i can hack it.

Face it, 3 is going to win, because I hate book clubs which force you to read a certain type of book (option 1). That's far too much like school, when you spend time reading books you don't really want to and then critique them.

2 would take ages, because writing the whole thing out on the BBS would take THOUSANDS of posts (Especially in the case of novels like Shogun, by James Clavell.)

3 gets my vote and I shall be reading Monstrous Regiment by Wednesday, I think.

Of course I am still going to review it. I am quite looking forward to it, actually.

Welcome, new member! What sort of literature are you into? We have a large contingent of Sci-Fi and fantasy readers here, but we aren't trying to oust the other genres.

BTW, be sure to check out Myst's Writer's Guild, as this can supply you with a near inexhaustable resource of short stories.

NEither have I there is a new one starting up in general about heaven and hell which looks pretty decent but thats the only new RPG Ive noticed or heard of?

Response to The Book Club 2004-12-08 05:09:28

I don't think Myst was going to start up a new RPG from the Boook club. I think he was getting ready for a new RPG, but that was all I knew.

Any members of the club who fancy reading my first chapter, I am serialising it on the Writer's Guild. If you feel like a read, then mosey on over there and catch page 24 onwards

Okay. I have started reading Monstrous regiment and I simply can't put the damned thing down. I must have read 70 pages in half an hour. The review may be here quicker than I ahd anticipated...

As far as I've read so far I'd definatley say a resounding yes. I already own three copies, but I haven't got the heart to tell relatives that I already own a copy of it, so it's back to Waterstones come the new year.
