Me? I’ve been wanting to try and emulate that storybook style. Recently, I was inspired by this artist and they way he used his brushes to create such pieces. So I downloaded his brushes to come up with my own kind of storybook style. How about you guys?

I always wanted to do a hyper realistic background but keep my manga-esque characters regardless.

To make them seems like, living in a world that is more than they are.

I've been meaning to take a shot at learning Mary Blair's art style. She was a concept artist for many classic Disney films and the ride "It's a Small World". Walt Disney himself even liked her work a lot, from what I remember.

An anime style that doesn't require black lineart, but rather feels real, with lots of lifelike realism and vivid colors and lots of light... yes... I don't have any references or anyone with a particular style, nor a specific inspiration, but I know what I'm trying to achieve.

I've been wanting to try my hand at something Tartakovsky-esque, specifically in emulation of Samurai Jack and the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries. I can definitely do it, my old style before I started doing pixel art came close at times, but it's hard to start things lol, especially experiments.

But I'll probably land there the next time I feel like doing some Clone Wars OC art.

Well, since a few months ago i've changed my artstyle to be a little bit more inspired in the UPA artstyle, sort of.

Like, idk if it's 100% accurate, but yeah, going to that direction.

Ever since I started working on my webcomic, the style which I was most influenced by was that of a Polish comic book classic called Tytus, Romek & A'Tomek, especially the older albums (60's/70's).

iu_1417809_23591995.webp

These comics are characterized by simple character models, that stand out on simple backgrounds, as well as muted, natural colors and a rough texture, a handmade look. As these comics perfectly encapsulate the vibe I'm aiming for, it seemed natural for me to take this style and put my own twist to it, making it my mission to represent a very rare artstyle that also gives me a strong sense of national identity.

My Polish fans have instantly recognized the artstyle and rightfully so.

I've always been fascinated by these types of oil painters that have expressive brush strokes.

They feel so effortless and rough yet realistic enough that we know what we're seeing. Most people who pull it off in other mediums usually have experience with oil paint, so I try to do oil paint as well. Kinda hard for me to get how they do it since my style tends to be on the more cartoony side though.

Once again, I think this puts me in the old fogey camp, but my biggest inspirations, and the two men I try to channel in my art, are Haruhiko Mikimoto and Kenichi Sonoda. I like Mikimoto for his sense of style and elegance, and Sonoda for his more streamlined approach and emphasis on adorable, expressive faces.

I'm torn between the styles of Bryan Lee O'Malley (of Scott Pilgrim fame) and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (of Neon Genesis Evangelion and .hack fame), which is tough because the styles are completely different

Lately I've been flip flopping from studying two artists in particular.

iu_1418247_23172184.webp

iu_1418248_23172184.webp Hidehiko Sakamura to try n' do more bigger and detailed renders while keeping my cel shaded style like he does. I've also started putting more bounce lights and rim lights in my stuff cuz of him.

And Bengus, I love how they can use saturated colors without it being super overwhelming. That and I really love how they use crosshatching, i've not only been trying to get better at crosshatching in general but Id kill to know how to make it look similarly sketchy like this and just overall fit my own style.

Oh, I love the direction you’re trying to go. Don’t worry, you’ll get there eventually.

Who cares if it’s a little cartoony? It’s your expression in the brush strokes. I respect and admire your classical direction when it comes to art.

You’re getting there. But what makes the classic cartoons stand out are their unique shapes and their shape languages. You’re going in the right direction, you just need to exaggerate your characters’ shapes a bit. Also, study a bit about shape language. I think you’ll find it very helpful.

I'm a huge sucker for Moebius, the way he mixed watercolors with a very distinctive crosshatching technique. I see ligne-claire as a bit of a Holy Grail, style-wise. Because inking relies so much on line weight already, managing to give an art piece depth and volume WITHOUT it is reeeeeally challenging.

It's very similar. The old-school Final Fantasy artist is Yoshitaka Amano, who also worked on Vampire Hunter D.

I've been tryin' to emulate the art styles of Super Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Illumination Entertainment, Rick and Morty, Gumball, Regular Show, Invincible, Capcom (mainly Mega Man and Street Fighter), and Dragon Ball Z. I'm also studying the art styles seen in several Marvel and DC cartoons, such as the Spider-Man animated series from the 90's, the 90's X-Men cartoon (and maybe '97 as well), X-Men Evolution, What If, The Super Hero Squad Show, Spectacular Spider-Man, Batman: The Animated Series, Young Justice, Teen Titans, Brave and The Bold, and 2004's The Batman.

...i'll admit, that is a lot of styles.
