Closing Thoughts


Another top notch month in the books! Smiling Friends made two appearances in the top five movies, fitting since @psychicpebbles and @MichaelCusack just got renewed for two more seasons. We also saw a triumphant return of @Kirbopher, got a new episode in the RATBASTERDZ series, a new game in the Gappy series, a follow-up to Waha's Robot Daze and much much more to enjoy.


In May we added controller mapping for Flash games, introducing a new way to play all sorts of classic games! This mapping effort continues in the Flash Controller Mapping Crew thread.


Big internal changes rolled out throughout the month as part of our ongoing code overhaul. We’re trying to get a lot of these improvements in place before addressing the regulatory changes that are coming to the UK next month, to streamline that whole process on the back-end. If you see the site break once in a while, it’s probably all the internal changes rolling out (there were a lot this past week).

Congratulations to all the indie game devs for another round of great games! I was glad to have a bit of a break after last month's record-setting quantity of games: let me have some time to check out all the Steam Next Fest demos (sleep? ah, don't need it)! Of course, this month was just as exciting as any month in terms of quality, especially with the latest demo for Gappy's Adventure and a new sequel to Waha's Robot Daze!


The games that were picked for the top were great and I'm in agreement with them, but don't forget to check out some of the ones that slipped through like these and more mentioned in my news post:



Anyway, can't rest for long as it's back to the grind in checking out the latest Treasure Hunt and Low Poly Day content!

Lotsa great stuff happening this month and this past month! Congrats everyone!!

The fact that Smiling Friends got two more seasons pretty much around Season 3’s development is exceptionally encouraging and wonderful to see!


Also as the post says, come play some old Flash games and keymap them for controller with us! If you have a Bluetooth controller connected to your phone, it potentially opens up a lot more opportunities to play some Flash classics for ya, and that thread there is a great reference for games being made compatible with controller…AND, don’t forget non-Flash with controller support baked in!


@Aalasteir’s Tutorial Jam has a lot of potential to be cool, so be sure to check that out too!

May's come and gone, and what a month it was.

Excellent games and animation, a brand new Mapping Crew and nonstop top-notch collabs meant we were in for one hell of a good time.


Keeping a personal trend up, I'm gonna pick out a couple personal favourites from the monthly lineup.


Favourite Movie: What ever happened to stick fights? (@ZaneLittle, 10th place)

This isn't just an impressive animation, this is a top-notch video essay, with a straight shot of pure artistic inspiration as a bonus. I'm genuinely shocked this didn't make the top five.


Bonus: NARCISSISTS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS (@BeyondCartoonz)

Between the intensely, painfully relatable situation used as setup, the hilariously cathartic punchline, and the impressive and expressive animation used throughout, you made one hell of an impression with your debut.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Welcome to Newgrounds, you're gonna fit right in.


Favourite Game: The Blue Cartridge (@SomewhoRandomLol, 7th place)

This didn't just blow away my expectations for a Sonic.exe fangame, this blew me away in general. Absolutely top-notch atmosphere, and pitch-perfect GBC visuals made for a truly impressive horror experience.

I thought the "haunted game" setup was never gonna scare me after I grew up. I was dead wrong.


Congrats to the winners and runners-up - you represent the best that Newgrounds has to offer, bar fucking none.
