WELCOME TO THE PARAPPA THE RAPPER NEWGROUNDS COLLAB!

PaRappa The Rapper has been a classic PlayStation game for 28 years since it originally came out, and it's never been forgotten. Parodies, fanart, and more love towards the series has been going on for forever, and it's one of the best PSX games of all time.

But no one here on Newgrounds made a collab for the series yet.

Hey, EwanDoggie here. I've been focused on collaborations for a while though, and they're fun to see. The Hello Kitty Collab gave me some real great laughs, the reanimated collabs are spectacular, and I joined the Petpet collab.

So why the heck not organising a collab?

I've become a PaRappa fan since mid-2024. I played the second game, the first game, and put the guitar in my mind when I played Um Jammer Lammy. My personal favourite character is Katy Kat, because I kinda think she's cute.

PaRappa and Lammy are the games that stay with my soul, and I basically sketch the characters all the time. Mostly Katy.

I even made a little funny PaRappa parody for the 5th episode of my skit show, Stupidly Stupid. Episode 6 might get a PaRappa parody too. Who knows? Finished storyboarding the skit.

Anyway, let's focus on this collab I organised instead of talking my love for the series.

"Can I participate?"

Yes! You don't need to ask. Just DM me the animation when you're finished.

RULES!

To make this collaboration nice and non-controversial, here are the rules.

READ THE RULES BEFORE MAKING YOUR ANIMATION.

  1. Anything that is considered M or A rated isn't allowed. Please do not make NSFW for this collab.
  2. Please make your own submission.
  3. Please do not add slurs into this collab. The R-slur is okay if it isn't directed at disabled people.
  4. Please don't add your watermark. Don't worry, I'll add your username at the bottom left. If you're using FlipaClip, try to screen record the animation from FlipaClip instead of exporting it which causes the dreaded FlipaClip watermark.
  5. Do not use any type of copyrighted material. You can use songs from the PaRappa soundtrack, make your own, or use the audio portal.
  6. Please do not make your animation gory enough that it reaches the M rating.
  7. Yes, you can swear.
  8. Please do NOT make ANY joke about tragedies.
  9. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or anything else that offends a human group.
  10. Live-action isn't allowed.
  11. Claymation is allowed.
  12. Animation is allowed. (duh!)
  13. You can only submit ONE entry.
  14. The minimum resolution is 480p, while the maximum is 1080p.
  15. Your submission can be between 20 seconds and 5 minutes.
  16. You gotta believe!

HOW TO SUBMIT?

You can DM me your animation! If you don't know how to DM the animation, follow these steps:

  1. Go to my profile page.
  2. Click on the "message" button next to the "follow" button.
  3. Name your message "PaRappa The Rapper Collab Submission"
  4. Upload your submission to a file sharing site. (e.g. MediaFire, Google Drive (make the video public in Google Drive), CatBox, FileDitch, unlisted YouTube video)
  5. When the file has finished uploading to the file sharing site, copy the link that has your video and paste it to the message.
  6. Send the message.
  7. Boom! You're done.

If the submission is accepted by me, I'll DM you back with the name "Accepted".

If it's rejected, I'll DM you back with the name "Rejected".

DEADLINE

The submitting will be closed in July 8th, 2025, 12:00 AM, AEST.

I'm telling you for your sake, do not host a collab, you're not ready.

I don't know a better way to say it that doesn't sound mean, but I really don't want to a see a young artist crash and burn and feel dissuaded from hosting a collab when you're actually ready. @snackers and @luis and many others can share horror stories of a simple idea turning into a full-time nightmare and those were the collabs that actually came out. many others never come out.

The wiki rules are majority outdated, I don't agree with many of the restrictions, but I do think having it updated to help artists in the current landscape of newgrounds would be great: https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/help-information/forums/forum-rules/collab-forum-rules

Okay, maybe this might be good advice, but how bad is hosting a collab? Took me like 2 hours to type all the "welcome" and the rules, maybe it was wasted.

I made a collaborative skit show called Stupidly Stupid, and it's when people show dumb stuff that they made.

Am I experienced?

Collaborative work and managing others is hard no matter your age. It's not "bad" so much as: it's less work than most people think, but more work than most people are willing to put in. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong and doing smaller projects with just a couple friends will build up your tolerance for when unexpected problems come up in a larger collab. I don't want you to get disheartened by failure.

They are fun, but they're also stressful, and the oversaturation of so many collabs also means a lot of your participants will be busy with the 6 other collabs they committed to. 2 hours is nothing in terms of time commitment, it may be 2 hours to start but by the end and the release(if you succeed) it can easily be hundreds of hours of your life. Keep doing small stuff as you develop your skills and test the waters again soon. I look forward to it :)
