Closing Thoughts


April 6th was the 25th Anniversary of the Portal becoming automated! Newgrounds was the first website to allow people to instantly publish movies and games, all the way back in 2000.


April was also the deadline for Flash Forward 2025, our annual event where people make new Flash games, still running in the browser thanks to Ruffle. Winners to be announced.


@DannyGoodShirt announced the winners of the Jump Comic Contest!


We celebrated an informal Pico Day this year without any prizes, check out the art, movies, games and music. Here’s a few art highlights:



We got to play a bunch of new games made for Ludum Dare 57.


Feature-wise, we introduced new keyboard shortcuts for audio and art. Carpal tunnel sufferers rejoice!


Some big internal changes went live on May 1st, as part of our ongoing code overhaul.

It has been a damn good week for Newgrounds. Controller mapping on Monday, and now the monthly lineup on Wednesday.


Its also been a good day for me, too - thanks to the Toybox Collab, my first Monthly trophy is mine:


Picking a personal highlight for this month, I'm giving it to "TAKEOUT: An Orion Animated Short Film":

Featuring hyper-stylish animation from @StarZilla10, plus truly excellent music from @JordoPriceNG and @McFriesDraws, you goddamn blew me away.


Another obvious highlight I can see is the goddamn awesome FLCL Reanimated collab:

Y'all are trying to kill me! There were so many game entries (50!) for the best of the month that I had to split my video in two to get it to render and upload without crashing!


Anyway, congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to all the game devs for delivering a bunch of games that were not only high in quantity, but quality as well! As usual, I've got my favorites on my news post here if you want to check 'em out.


In particular, I want to highlight a bunch of incredibly promising demos that came out this month: a lot of them were so good that they are already in my top 10, and I'd love for them to get feedback to get bigger and better for their eventual release!

This was a pretty cool month.

Or, I suppose I should say, a Fooly Cooly month.


Tons of great submissions! While I’m surprised the FLCL Reanimated didn’t get number one (especially with FLCL being my top favorite), the Bridge Kids deserved their win.


It’s pretty sick FLCL Re got a shout out by Toonami, though! Sweet.


@ICantSeeHelp ‘s, “Hello Kitty Illegally Downloads Music” was another I was shocked didn’t get Top 5. The animation and comedy was top notch for Flash.


For art, I thought @Algro778 with his Majora’s Mask piece would’ve placed in the Top 5, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

Regardless, that doesn’t make the art winners or the runner-ups any less awesome.


I thoroughly enjoyed these submissions a lot. I can’t properly put it into words. But, congratulations to the winners!

And a big round of applause for the Runner-Ups!

You guys rock.


I guess I’ll go and wander around now, to see the fantastic, submissions for May.
