Nostalgia was a turn based RPG for the DS. I think Nintendo Power or Game Informer hyped it up as the next big thing. I picked it up and it was possibly the most paint-by-numbers RPG I've ever played that wasn't an RPG Maker sample game. The airship battles were pretty cool but it didn't do anything to stick out from the crowd of other DS RPGs.

Final Fantasy Explorers for the 3DS. It's pretty much diet Monster Hunter. You go to the world, hunt and fight espers/summons like Bahamut, Ifrit, etc. The games was definitely made for a co-op experience but single player remedies this by letting you have regular monsters you encounter be in your party, like a Cactuar, or Bombs. It also has the job system, the further you get in game, the more jobs become available. But it does suffer from lack of fast travel, hardly any consequences from dying, repetitive quests and fights, and no level up system technically, your monsters can level up, but you can't. But still a fun, decent game if you're curious enough to try it.

The Xena Warrior Princess games. All of them.

Relevant thread of different Xena games. Of these I played Talisman of Fate for a bit on an emulator.

WET wasn't revolutionary, didn't look that good even when it launched and was a bit clunky at times, but it was a lot of fun and had tons of personality to it, which is more than I can say about most modern games.

I remember the Griptonite Lord of the Rings movie game for the GBA was a pretty fun diablo-like

I played it enough to find a bunch of glitches, like walking around all the weather effects' triggers, and tricking passive effects to use the wrong palette

There was also a thing with the audio samples where when you killed a warg (wolf creature) they would play a moment of the "next" sample at the end, so it would go "HOWL!!!...oooum-" every time you killed one

Just bought it cuz it was on sale on the eshop and I thought the girl was cute (I was like 15 back then, before you ask anything weird) and also thought the witch was hot + I was into rhythm games like Rhythm Heaven and Guitar Hero. It was ass, the worst part was that the game had like, 3-minute long dialogues between 1-minute songs you could play, I completely skipped dialogue in the last songs cuz I just wanted to play.

This looks fire can I emulate it?

I wish someone would pick up the IP and give us a remake. An updated version would be killer. iu_1395497_38677.webp

Awesome, too bad I don't play Playstation, and I don't have a PS5, nor do I ever intend on getting one.

I played this game for about an hour and never again due to boredom. Not a bad game, but as someone who owns multiple WarioWare games, they're just unarguably better than this.

iu_1395572_20777438.webp

I got this when I was around 9 years old and I still own it.

I have beat this game three times, no joke. It's not good at all, but somehow gives a lot of KH vibes?! Just... without the fighting, and of course it's super easy.

Spyro Season of Ice/Flame

Aimless level design hindered by janky controls, a camera that makes me dizzy, shit perspective, and the entire game plays on diagonal inputs so my thumb hurts like fucking hell having to roll on the edges of the d-pad.

Could be dumb fun if it didn't physically harm my eyes and left thumb.

I would say that neverhood is like super famous game. But that might be just because of the kind of people I spend time with. I remember working in one animation studio and we talked about how we love neverhood almost the whole time there.

idk i never seen anyone besides my brother and some people talkin about neverhood much

Same here! My friends and I were totally obsessed with Neverhood — I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time. The atmosphere was just incredible.

Viva Pinata Party Animals. I remember playing this on the Xbox 360 as a kid, unfortunately I don't have the Xbox 360 anymore so I can't play it anymore. I believe this belongs here as it's fairly obscure, as the most popular YT video I could find only had 43K views.

iu_1398509_21603057.webp

If that game wasn't obscure enough, I also used to play the Cars 2 game on the LeapFrog LeapPad 2. (I also played it on the Xbox 360, but I believe that game's decently well-heard-of) I also had a Disney Princess game, but I don't think I've ever played that one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVajiNGoRwI

More bad than mid, it's got a 50% on Steam.

I only really remember it because I played it with some friends, and every couple minutes there's a scene where a character will say something proceeded by all your party members taking turns saying "yeah".

SwapQuest is an obscure one, I only know it because I had a phase where I had to collect every psn trophy known to man.

It's basically Pipes (the puzzler), but with turn based combat, it had potential, but the game is painfully slow, and every time you open a chest or kill an enemy the jewels you collect from it scatter the board like my diarrhea in the fucking toilet bowl, so the only way to collect the jewels is to painfully walk your ass to them, or swip swap between two tiles you keep replacing with ones from elsewhere, oh you also have to do it quickly as the wall behind you creeps up, it's slow, but it's annoying enough when your character walks as slow as a fucking old man on his deathbed.

The slow wall also sucks because half the time you dont have any suitable tiles to place on your path when you need them, so if you really want to grab that chest at the bottom well good fucking luck if the game decides to not give you a right turn tile as the game really spams the same tile in chunks.

If the game was twice it's speed (genuinely feels slowed down), had no wall of doom, and the treasure you collect actually went straight into your inventory, then it could be a really decent puzzle game. You can at least stop your character from moving, or make him move in different directions, but he auto walks, you basically control him but in the most cumbersome way possible, but otherwise, a great idea with terrible execution.

The actual game is your typical RPG but with only one character, and on a pipes board that hurts the game more than anything.

Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.
