Sorry pal. But we need voice acting for every word of dialogue, as well as different variations of each line for every unique accent and cadence of the many races and creeds in the world of Oblivion speak in.
No we will NOT compress the audio quality for the sake of lowering the file size! Optimization is the language of the utterly deranged, don't you know!!
In my opinion, it looks worse than the original.

Yeah, and I would say their faces are too high fidelity now, they are definitely in the uncanny valley to me when speaking.

It's a cheesy medieval fantasy game where braindead villagers give you quests, you explore the world, go into caves, and fight monsters using magic or weapons, or just your fists.
Also there's portals to hell with demons coming out of them that you need to go into and destroy, I think (I kind of ignored that part)
I'd get it, if it were a cheap/free upgrade for owners of the original...
A truly prophetic sig...
I find it weird that certain "gamers" get all pissy over a remake/remaster of an early Xbox 360 game that was well received before, and from what I've seen, smoothed some of the typical jank of a Bethesda game. Seriously, what do they even want? (Rhetroical question, mind you)
If nothing else, this should be a good stopgap between now and ES6, God forbid they become irrelevant and get sent into Microsoft's chopping block because of the diminishing returns of Skyrim.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
Look... I'm going to be real.
The Dark Souls series and Elden Ring is better but at the same time I could really feel indifferent to another remaster. It looks nice, but it's not impressive to warrant the price either.
I'm a bit surprise they use Unreal Engine for this remaster instead of Creation Engine 2. I know Starfield looks art design wise shit, but it has the capabilities to remaster Oblivion.

There’s no doubt about it. Bethesda has completely mastered the system of re-releasing the same game over and over again. It’s a business model that pays dividends.
What I want is for this not to have such an obscene price tag for being a remaster. It shouldn’t be priced like a full-fledged game, because it’s not. It’s a remaster. Remasters are good, but this highlights corporate greed has won. I feel like we, as people who enjoy gaming experiences, have fundamentally lost. I feel games aren’t just products, they mean something. There are an experience which are worth cherishing. They’re an art form. It just makes me sad.
We can hope ES6 will be an absolute masterpiece that blows everything out of the water, but I can’t imagine that. Fallout 4 was terrible. I didn’t play Starfield because I was already so disappointed by what I’d seen.
It’ll make a lot of money, sure, I’m frustrated.
The games I used to enjoy no longer feel like they’re meant to be played. They’re meant to be bought.

Maybe a decade later Bethesda might stop using their in-house game engine and just fully transfer to Unreal Engine like how CD Projekt Red is doing.

How is making a remaster of a nearly 20 year old game anti-consumer? There are plenty of worse examples that fit that mold better, and we include remakes, the Last of Us is more guilty in that regard.
There’s no doubt about it. Bethesda has completely mastered the system of re-releasing the same game over and over again. It’s a business model that pays dividends.
If that was it, I'd like to see you would say about Sega. They've remastered and re-relased Sonic 1 and 2 so many times on so many devices, it makes Bethesda look like an amateur.
Granted, Sonic 1 and 2 are 16-bit games from the early 90's, but your point is a double standard in waiting.
What I want is for this not to have such an obscene price tag for being a remaster. It shouldn’t be priced like a full-fledged game, because it’s not. It’s a remaster. Remasters are good, but this highlights corporate greed has won.
On the surface, I do agree. But Oblivion is a 20 year old game from several console generations ago, (and being an early title at that) which generally means that a remake/remaster isn't really that damning to Bethesda. Whether or not it was necessary will always be subjective, but considering that Skyrim was in 2011 and I would assume that ESR6 is still under development, it's better to have something to hold fans over than to be completely off the radar for so long.
I feel like we, as people who enjoy gaming experiences, have fundamentally lost. I feel games aren’t just products, they mean something. There are an experience which are worth cherishing. They’re an art form. It just makes me sad.
That is your personal convectjure, which is fine, but we all know that it's a lot more complicated than that.
Gaming has always been a business just like anything else, they weren't developing games out of pure charity. The only differences is there was far more money and exposure now than there was 30 or even 20 years ago. Was it better back then when studios supposedly chased profits but nobody cared about it then?
That aside, if you had a physical copy and a X360 or PS3, than you can just play that instead.
We can hope ES6 will be an absolute masterpiece that blows everything out of the water, but I can’t imagine that. Fallout 4 was terrible. I didn’t play Starfield because I was already so disappointed by what I’d seen.
Then why are you bothering about it then? I know this is more of a complaint about remkes/remasters using Oblivion as a template. Okay, but let's not pretend like this kind of thing was anything new, even if it does comes from a company that seem to make one style of game, and is owned by a cut happy Microsoft.
If I have to compare remakes/remasters to something, it would be caffeine. When it's done once in a while and for the right reasons, it's not that bad. It's only when they go overboard or mess with it for the sake of change is where we run into problems. With all that, who do we leave the blame towards?, It's an open ended answer.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

i am puzzled by the amount of people eating up this remaster like it's candy. to me it's a cashgrab & an insult to both the legacy of the original game and the intelligence of the consumers. to the 79% of people who positively rated it on steam, it's a nice treat from bethesda. the same old game slapped onto UE5, with an asinine 120 gig requirement on an SSD.
are we at the point now where if the initial paid skyrim mods incident happened, there wouldn't be as much backlash as there was at the time? cause it feels that way to me.

As far as Bethesda remakes/remasters go, just by virtue of it not being Skyrim again, not being on Creation Engine and they waited 20 years before this particular rerelease, I'll extend more benefit of the doubt than I typically would.
There are plenty of kids that were too young to play the original (or weren't born yet), so if they want it, let em have it. I remember it well enough and Bethesda's worn out my patience over the years, so I don't need it, but whatever. Not everything needs to be tailor made for me.
Maybe by looking back to the kinds of games made by people that have long since left the company, these new devs can understand why Bethesda used to have a reputation for at least being ambitious if not totally competent. One can hope.

Oblivion is so old now that someone I know who’s older than me got excited to buy the game for his kid so he could share the experience. I don’t really care about Oblivion, but hearing this guy get excited to bond with his kind over it made me realize that he’s the target demographic, not me. I have a deep desire to experience new things, but quite frankly Bethesda is not the kind of studio to deliver that anymore. If people don’t like what they’re putting out they should probably look elsewhere.

Yah but now that they can offload the costs of having internal optimization teams onto consumer hardware, they dgaf. Their games could kill your GPU and they’ll be like “I guess you need an upgrade!”. The shareholders will be like “Yes please! True that, i wouldnt be surprised if CPU/GPU (or any company that makes computer parts) companies have an alliance with triple A companies to make sure the games are badly optimized in order to force people to upgrade so that those companies can also profit from a new highly anticipated game being released
