Ubisoft copy-paste slop. I'm fully convinced that the people who play these games have never actually played a good open world game in their entire life.

Setting aside the low hanging fruit triple A slop, there's a lot of cult classic JRPGs that never clicked with me either. Star Ocean kinda pissed me off. With a name as cool as that I came in expecting a sci-fi space faring RPG but instead got a rather paint by numbers action RPG that takes place majorly in generic middle earth inspired RPG land. The fact that they had such an expensive crafting system and pretty solid combat mechanics on the SNES is no doubt impressive for what it's worth. The only one I really like is I think 5 or maybe 6, the one where you actually DO explore the cosmos, and for some reason that's the least popular one in the franchise? Weird.
Steambot Chronicles had one of the most insultingly bad spinoff titles I've ever played in the form of Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament for the PSP. Before you can actually enlist in the titular battle tournament you need to grind your rank up, and to do that you need to complete missions. Fair enough, but what kind of missions will you be doing? Endless wood and water fetch quests. At one point there's even a quest with a description along the lines of "are you getting tired of these yet?". Other reviews for the game I've seen similar complaints about the quests being repetitive and the biomes being dull. It's one of few games I've played that felt like it was genuinely made out of malice or resentment for the player. And worst of all, it left such a foul taste in my mouth that I couldn't even give the original SBC a chance despite seeing countless people insisting that it's one of the best RPGs on the PS2. Xenoblade Chronicles and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are two beloved games I complain about constantly. There's quite a few RPGs that I once disliked will eventually click with me but these two just don't. Nothing's more agonizing to me than an RPG early game where you're just playing deliveryboy until the story decides to actually kick in. "They're trying to get you attached to the characters before they take em away from you and set you off on an adventure to save them from the big bad/great calamity" never worked for me and I think it just never will.

I know this is a controversial opinion, but Dark Souls.
Plenty of people tell me it's good and I'm well aware of the difficulty. I got one of the games on my Nintendo Switch, played it for a couple hours, got bored and never picked it back up.

Monster Hunter. And if you know me I am A HUGE Capcom shill except for this series. Like...holy shit the combat is so fucking tedious the hub world is confusing, and it feels like doing anything in this game is a chore!

Red dead redemption 2 everyone I know who played this game says it’s one of the best games ever but whenever I play the game I always get bored pretty fast and quit all you do is walk around for a really long while sometimes shot people and hunt animals (which is one of the few fun things in the game btw)
but besides that I didn’t care about the story that much and I never finished it

Rain World: Because of its clunky ass gameplay, unfair enemy spawning (Mooks can sometimes appear at the worst times, including near your safe zones). everything being instant death and the karma system can go shove a tree branch up the lower end of its digestive track. Basically, in order to move forwards, you have to get enough karma, you lose it via dying. I'm sure you can put two and two together as to why that'll be an issue.
I am really surprised this thing became popular. Honestly, only good thing about this game is the slugcats and graphics.
Oh, and despite the beginning suggests you'll have to find your family, they have nothing to do with the endings, like at all. It's like the developers just forgot they existed. So glad I dropped this game very early.

Mafia 2. I really don’t understand why so many people like it. To me, it just feels like an incomplete game: terrible story, awful ending, bad combat, every gun feels the same. The comedy is weak… well, not all the time, but some characters feel like bad copies of GTA characters, and they’re just not funny.
And the AI is a mess. I remember testing it on my Xbox 360 and never understanding the stupid little details they put in—yet they couldn’t make a decent AI. The level design is awful, too. But at the end of the day, I think I just hate this game because I expected too much from the series. Mafia 1 isn’t perfect, but it’s a much better game.
P.S.: I haven’t played the Mafia 1 remake, but from what I’ve seen, it looks like a mediocre job in my opinion.

Pretty much every RPG based on table-top rulesets or just stat-based gameplay in general. Outside of Fromsoft's work, I've never enjoyed a game because of its stat rather than in spite of them. Even for the soulsbornes, I'm at best indifferent.

Oh man, so much it's not even funny, I might be the problem...
The most controversial is Half Life, both one and two, I can acknowledge how groundbreaking they were for the single-player fps industry, and really fps/computer games in general- not to mention introducing both GoldSRC and Source respectively.
But, dude... the games are boring af. Maybe it's one of those things where you just had to be there, idk.

FNF for me too. I enjoy the fandom but I'm just terrible at the game itself.

It is what it is. At least you put the effort in trying to understand its acclaim during its peak. Can't really force yourself to like something after playing a lot of spiritual successors to Half Life. The vernacular of game design changes over time... even Half Life Alyx is a huge departure from what 1 & 2 did and I personally couldn't play Half Life 2 again after that.

Never felt compelled to play any of them.

I think I talked about this once here before but I was never able to get into Animal Crossing New Horizons. I grew up on the series so I was super excited for it to come out, but it just didn't feel the same as the others. It was visually beautiful but the characters felt really hollow, a bunch of features from previous games were missing on release, and (at least to me) it didn't really feel like a life simulator anymore since nothing would change while you were away. I'm glad a lot of people have fun with it, though I honestly feel like it's sort of a weak one if you're a long-time fan.

different name same game every year, its repetitive slop and the fact that people go out there way and pay 60$ or more for the same stuff is insane to me.
For example that's like instead of Minecraft updating there game when a new feature is added they just make something called Minecraft 2 and decided to do it again when they wanna add something new.

Zelda BOTW, it's just a dead open world with the same five enemies.
I will admit, I dont really like open worlds that much, but even BOTW was very lackluster.
The dungeons last for like three minutes.
"BOTW" machine this, "Worth it only for BOTW" that, "Should be apart of every Switch user's collection" that, my brother in christ lets not kid ourselves, it's the exact thing everyone hated, but magically turned around just because it's Zelda.
I will admit, it has a nice art style, sound design... I cant remember much, but that art style was wasted so bad.
TOTK at least seems better, but since Zelda sequels always takes the world from the last, it's just BOTW yet again, but this time you can build stuff, it worked for Majora's Mask because the content was the story and gameplay, BOTW and TOKT is just exploring a dead open world, so I'd say from the start TOTK is already flawed.
Full Disclaimer, I only played around 8 hours of BOTW, and none for TOTK.
It feels like people just like BOTW too fit in, than to actually enjoy it, which imo can be said for Pokemon, if people aren't hating Pokemon to death, then they boot lick it instead, "Oh here's my copy of Pokemon Ruby!!!!" "Here's some POKEMON CARDS!" I only seen around several people that's actually normal about Pokemon, but that's for another time.
Point is, BOTW and TOTK just seem like your average dead open world games, that people act like are worth buying not only for a 300$ device exclusively, but for 60 - 70$
I will admit, I did enjoy BOTW when I first played it, but it long over stayed it's welcome after the tutorial area, spreading everything out even further than they already where in the tutorial zone. TOTK letting me build isn't enough to make me try that one.
Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.

Skyrim.
I tried to like it, but coming from Oblivion and Morrowind I felt like the world was boring to explore.
Morrowind was like an alien planet and Oblivion had a fun mix of biomes plus the oblivion gates. Skyrim was just "Cool, another cold snowy mountain. This one is a little grassier than the last one. Great." Oblivion had a vibrant color palette. Skyrim was lots of drab grey and brown, which seems to define that era of gaming to be fair.
I also don't remember any of the quests like I easily can with Oblivion. It was all just very uninspiring to me.

Never could get into BOTW either. Its 'open world' felt like they took the fun locations from a good 3D zelda game and just spread them out reeeeally far to give an impression of vastness and adventure (which is how I feel about many open world games). I was very bored and just wanted to play through dungeons and solve puzzles instead of running around in the grass.
Absolutely did not get it.

Cyberpunk 2077.
This game had a ridiculous amount of hype beforehand and that didn't include the game itself. The fact that it had an anime series announced before the game came out basically spoked of either arrogance or at least somebody at CDPR bet the whole farm on a franchise that was dormant at best. Sure it's in a better state now, but if we're all being honest, if 2077 was made by anybody else, they would have been DOA and ridiculed out of the industry. Not to mention that the Cyberpunk brand would be viewed as a cash in and nothing more.
Personally, I had no interest in it anyway, as it's more or less a mish-mash of GTA, Watch_Dogs and even the Witches and not necessarily the best parts of such for that matter.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

Typically, these media tie-in deals happen months/years before release. That is why we got that Concord episode of Secret Level, long after the game crashed and burned.
In retrospect, CDPR must have been extremely happy/lucky that the anime came out when they needed some good press. It definitely got me to give the game a chance. Getting the game for $5 in a pre-Edgerunners sale helped too.
