Welcome everyone!
This year on July 6th, Newgrounds will be turning 30 years old and in order to celebrate this wonderful occasion, we're hosting a big collab. This big collab contains several smaller collabs, such as:
- Music (hosted by me)
- Animation (hosted by me)
- Games (hosted by @Intrapath),
- Writing (hosted by @jamriot)
- Voice Acting (hosted by @jamriot)
- art (hosted by @Mantis).
A similar collab was hosted 10 years ago, so be sure to check that out if you haven't already!
=== The Plan ===
Before we explain how the animation collab works, let's have a look at how the music collab was created. It's pretty simple! We researched the past decade and came up with a list of genres to represent each era. Then we asked Newgrounds musicians to compose all 30 different parts for us and glued them all together to form a song that represents the past 10 years of NG History. But now the time has come to pass our stick to the animation department! Let's continue where the music collab left off! We're turning this song into a music video:
- We're animating to a song that's split up in different parts! The collab offers room for 30 different animators and some parts will be longer than others. The shortest being approximately 11 seconds long and the longest being about 35 seconds. You can find these audio files in the "Resources" section down below.
- After choosing your part, you can pretty much animate whatever you want to, so long as you provide a bunch of designated references. Just for the occasion, I provided a document with an easy-to-understand overview of what you should be including. You can find this handy-dandy document down below, under the "Resources" header.
- Last but not least; the animation you make should transfer into the next animation. Simply fading out into a white screen may suffice, but you can be more creative about it if you want! Feel free to include a longer intro or outro if you think it will help with the transition!
=== Specifications ===
I should probably mention this is not going to be a Flash Collab. While it's allowed to use Animate/Flash, we encourage everyone to show off what they can do with Blender, TvPaint, OpenToonz, Aseprite, Toonboom, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, MOHO, Tahoma 2D, After Effects, etc. Just a heads up: Files may get large! Please make sure you have a place where you can upload your files so you can share them with me.
Framerate: 24 Frames per Second
Dimensions: 1920x1080 (1080p)
Allowed filetypes:
- .swf
- .png sequence (.zip)
- .mp4 (preferably H.264, RGB+Alpha is adviced if it helps with transitions but not mandatory)
- .mov (preferably H.264, RGB+Alpha is adviced if it helps with transitions but not mandatory)
=== Rules ===
- Adult content will not be allowed.
- Animations should play for the full duration of the song. It's fine to provide a longer intro or outro if you think it'll benefit your transitions.
- Please read the art directions for the part that you've chosen. This is not a set of mandatory instructions but it does inform you about the references your part should include. Plus, if you're struggling to come up with anything good, there's a few ideas in there that you may help you get started!
- Don't use AI or graphics that aren't your own. Also don't bother representing NG characters as stick figures. Additionally, don't animate inside a void: I expect to see backgrounds. In other words, don't be lazy!
- There may be a few exceptions, but please refrain from referencing anything that has no direct relation to the history of Newgrounds. If you're unsure, just ask!
- Don't add additional music, voice acting or sound effects.
- Please don't put a watermark on your animation. Likewise, if you're using a free version of your animation software, please make sure there will be no watermark on the final product.
- Collaborations are encouraged!
=== Deadline ===
June 15th 2025.
=== How To Join ===
If you want to sign up, join us on the official discord! That's where most of the work will be done. I will be keeping track of everyone's progress in there and you'll be able to see which parts are still available. Just let me know if any parts interest you. Hope to see you in there soon!
