Closing Thoughts

December was a packed month and a great finish to a wonderful year on NG. Like I said in the 2024 Year-End Recap post, the community really kept NG thriving while the majority of internal development projects were necessary but less glamorous.

Art Secret Santa resulted in over 560 art gifts, topping the turnout from the previous year!

Our Student Film Showcase continued for a third year and we’re looking forward to seeing more of your films this year.

@KingCrowned hosted a Tankmas Animation Jam, check out the Tankmas Jam Winners!

There were two meetups: Midwest Furfest in IL and Fun Stop Arcade in NJ.

We announced a number of Drawing Tablet recipients last month and since then, additional tablets have been sent to @Nm120, @babydash65 and @themarkimator.

@PsychoGoldfish deployed audio upgrades last month to improve the playlist experience. Give my December music playlist a listen to try them out. 

It wasn’t all great news last month; we lost Final Fantasy Sonic X creator @BlackDevilX. A fundraiser has been set up to raise money for his family, please consider donating!

Other News

January 18th kicks off the crowdfunding campaign for Once Upon a Time on the Internet, a documentary about NG being put together by @littlbox.

Pixel Day is January 23rd and we’re still raising prize money! See that post for details, along with other plans for this year. 

This year is NG’s 30th Anniversary, along with the 25th anniversary of real-time publishing in The Portal! NG was the first website where you could instantly publish movies and games.

Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by the CA fires. If you are looking for a place to donate to, the California Fire Foundation looks like a good one and was selected as the recipient of this California Fire Relief Games Bundle, if you want to snag some games while helping a good cause.

Another great month of games! Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to the devs for some great stuff: I definitely find myself agreeing with a lot of the top picks! This month we only had around 30 entries instead of the usual 40: glad to have me a bit of a holiday break!

This month we got a lot of multiplayer games from a GDevelop Game Jam, which is always tricky for me since I play games by the time the initial crowd of players has dissipated. I was able to play most of them solo, but in order to play Robots Out of Time which is strictly coop, @TharosTheDragon reached out to play together and we turned it into a special guest appearance on the show! Admittedly, it didn't work out the best since the game was super laggy, but hey, still a fun time!

Don't forget to check out some of these other demos and playtests that were featured this month below so they can gather up as much feedback as possible to become big and strong in the near future!

Woah! Who would've thought that a game that I thought for certain was either gonna get blammed or pass with a 2.16, would end up placing in the top games of the month. I'm so extremely happy I participated in a game winning best of the month. And I'm so honoured to have gotten my first frontpage because of Tankmas, it's been incredible. Thank you @mrshmoods for the opportunity.

This was the best month for games in recent memory. The sheer quantity of high quality games was so great that it was very difficult to narrow them down to just 10 votes. And a whole bunch of them were similar to each other in that they had a ton of secrets I wanted to find so I could achieve 100% completion:
