Include a second tag, "pixelday2025-compo" to confirm it is a world premier piece and is competing for a prize. If you’re a pixel artist who has never shared your work on NG, we’d love to see you join in! You can enter multiple categories or submit multiple entries. You can also team up with friends to make stuff.
Fan art is fine, if the art is your own original pixel work and not sprites ripped from games.
If you’re making a movie or game, try partnering with someone making chiptunes on NG! We can’t host content with unlicensed commercial music, so avoid using songs you don’t have permission to use. Here are some music resources.

📆 Flash Forward Jam & Flash Portal 25th Year Anniversary
Our fifth annual Flash Forward event will be officially announced in early February but you can start making a Flash game or interactive movie right now if you plan to participate!
April 6th is the 25th anniversary of NG’s Flash Portal going automatic, the very first place on the Internet where people could instantly publish movies and games. What better way to celebrate 25 years than with a whole bunch of new Flash games and interactive movies?
It would be awesome if you could publish your Flash Forward entry ON April 6th, to make the whole day a big event. Note: The original deadline was April 20th but I bumped it up to match the 25th Anniversary. Let me know if this messes with your plans.
Prizes are TBD but you can use the donation option to donate towards the prize pool at any time. PM me a heads up if you donate towards Flash Forward. It would be great to kick this off with a big prize pool.
📆 Pico Day
We’re changing things up a bit this year. The first Pico Day was organized in the forums and happened on my birthday. When it became an official NG event with prizes each year, I tried to move it away from my birthday because that felt weird. I also tried to turn it into a more general “Newgrounds Day” rather than expect people to make Pico fan stuff every year. It never really succeeded in becoming a not-Pico Day and last year a bunch of people posted fan art on my birthday AND on Pico Day, which was fun for me but felt like it would be best as a single day.
I both love seeing Pico fan art but also feel weird encouraging it with prizes each year, so Pico Day is going to return to being a more casual event like it was the first time. We can stick to it being on my birthday (April 30th) to keep all the fan art on a single day. There won’t be prizes or picking winners anymore but please let me know if you have been working on something huge, maybe it would even be best for NG's 30th Anniversary in July.
📆 Low-Poly Day
After teasing it for the past few years, we’re finally gonna have a Low-Poly Day this year! The current plan is for it to happen on Friday, June 6th. A more formal post will come later but if you want to participate, you have six months to think of something! As a general reference, think PS1-PS2 graphics and Y2K electronic music. Read the Brainstorming thread for more examples / inspiration.

July 6th is NG’s 30th birthday and we’d love to see anything people want to make in celebration of the milestone. This could be the “Newgrounds Day” that Pico Day never quite was.

It's fine to start ahead of time! To participate, tag your game with Flash-Forward-2025 when you release it.

Due to the resolution and size of that image, it doesn't really capture what is expected with pixel art, in terms of expressing details with limited resolution. Browse these images for a variety of examples.

Hell yeah! I think that Newgrounds Day addition will be awesome for this site!
My entry for pixel day is progressing quite well! Actually meant to be a side thing I’m doing, but since most of it is pixel-based, might as well participate, right? I think I can finish before that day, but since its meant to be a “day-of” contest, I’ll be anxiously waiting till then!
This sounds awesome! Not sure if this has been said already, but in my opinion...To me the draw of pico day has always been getting pico related content to celebrate the character; I think making newgrounds day revolve around tankmen would be great! They are the mascot, and it'd inspire a lot more content for said mascot, too!
That fine that this years pico day won't be doing prizes anymore i mean i hardly win any of them anyways, but i am working on a pico project that you might really like among many others, so as one scientist once said Mr. Fulp
