Would a song that has a section of 5/4 or 3/4 in addition to another time signature meet the criteria for the bingo, or would they have to be entirely in that time signature?

It's not necessary that you meet the criteria throughout the whole track. You can play distorted guitars for 3 seconds or 4 bars in 3/4 time sig. What matters is the audibility cuz if the judges can't hear it then they won't tick the bingo!

After a quick inquiry, it is concluded that the first submission of @DumbOctopus is disqualified because it was made before the contest began.

Hello. I've been brainstorming stuff for this contest in the past few days and I have an inquiry: would recycling some motifs from an older composition to include in the final track be okay? or would that be enough for it to be considered something that's "made before the contest" and therefore disqualified?

I could totally come up with something similar sounding for this event but really there's only so much you can do with 7 notes in a scale so I personally don't believe it could matter a whole lot, but I'm aware I can't rewrite the rules so I figured I should ask for confirmation in advance before commiting to anything.

on the topic of bingo, can you define "orchestral"? would the whole track have to be played by an orchestra and only an orchestra, or does just including more than the usual amount of orchestral elements and having other types of sound as well satisfy the criteria?

Think of this timing rule as in any other contests such as NGADM. Simply don't:

+ Reuse ideas from completed tracks

+ Build upon an already existing WIP

You should build from the ground up, start fresh.

However, the rule doesn't prevent you from seeking inspiration. You can take inspiration from your older tracks and create something similar.

As a side note, this rule doesn't prohibit the reuse of synths and sound designs. It prevents you from reusing ideas, such as melodies, structures...

This has been an excessive elaboration on the fine phrase "just make original track bro"

To satisfy the "Orchestral" box, one should have an elaborate use of strings, brass, percussion and woodwind instruments in an symphony setting/vibe. For example, there are differences between using saxophone in Jazz and in a symphonies; or the types of perc you'd use in Rock and in Orchestral.

A track doesn't have to include all 4 types of instrument.

As for the length, please refer to what I replied to ThePhreshPhrog. It isn't necessary to play orchestra throughout the whole track. The same goes for every other criteria.

There aren't any scoring benefits to submitting 2 tracks. I thought getting the same scores is pretty common so some tracks will share the same rank, like last year.

But you raised a good point about top 1 and 2. If that happens, I might wanna invite someone to judge tracks with the same scores ^^
