Throughout this site and the rest of the internet, I've seen people claim that they've been here since they were kids. However, it's more of them discovering NG for themselves and word of mouth rather than NG advertising it's wares to them(I don't think there's any documentation of any ads for Newgrounds). So...., what is Newgrounds' true and intended target demo?

Everyone it's "everything by everyone" after all, that's like asking what age demographic socks are for.

But you're only allowed to join if you're 13 and up.

Even though it's for everyone I would never show this site to a kid. There's far too much violence and pervy stuff here.

And the self appointed user rating system doesn't stop nsfw artists with no common sense from posting their nudes under an E rating.

Newgrounds doesn't really have a set "age demographic", it's made for animators and artists to post cool stuff on. Technically, it's 13+ since that's the minimum age to make an account here. There are age ratings, for instance "Everyone" but that's in a more "hey there's nothing weird in this one" type beat rather than "this is made for kids".

12 and under

It's really what you want it to be, the feed I have is primarily all-ages stuff, but that doesn't mean jimbo123 can't have the freakiest feed the site's ever seen. Stuff on the frontpage is kinda just whatever people find cool, and not necessarily targeting any age group. It's easy enough to avoid what you don't wanna see, and easy enough to see what you do. There's some spillover, yes, but for the most part it really is just "whatever you want it to be".

FNF died down a little, so there's not that many 10 year olds nowadays

Of course it's not for kids, but I feel like the age restrictions is better here than it is on DeviantArt, because if you choose to only see stuff under the E rating, at least you don't see stuff with random fetishes unlike with that other site that had gone down the garbage shute.

1 - Probably some of the same exact demographic that originally found it and grew up with it to now.

Teens in the 2000's.

Specifically.

Teens in the 2000's, still living, eating, drinking, breathing the same "I don't give a fuck about what you think" attitude from the 90's that got killed by 9/11.

That's the demographic in my own opinion/theory but the flames that burned within said demographic has long since been quelled, soooooooo...

2 - The real demographic these days is, technically, again, the result of said 2000's teens.

Stale men in their mid-20's to late 30's, no longer familiar with the 90's attitude that used to flow through them and this site thanks to political correct-ness, now coming back to relish in what the younger generation's been drawn to --- Friday Night Funkin'.

Not that there's anything wrong with FNF, just that there's certain kinds of people that maybe should be focused on other things in their lives, or at least something a little more hardcore and true to the roots of this site.

But otherwise, Friday Night Funkin' has definitely attracted the wrong crowd; some even let their small children play the game.

And that's fine since they're going to add a full "No Naughtiness" mode later on, but still.

3 - Gen Alpha (4-13 y/os).

As I said, Friday Night Funkin' has attracted the actual demographic it set out to not attract, thanks to its look and sound, and especially thanks to those damn content farms on YouTube Kids; the ones we all can agree to openly despise together.

eh- a lot of peeps(like my self) used to sit their age to 20 smt before turning 18(not just on newgrounds, same for youtube and steam) so i would take these numbers with a grain of sult

i don't think it makes any sense to see the target demo as an age group. like the ideal newgrounds user is a multidisciplinary creative that is always trying to get better and share their stuff but also extremely interested in everybody elses stuff and seeing them get better. in between collaborating and playing all the games and being funny but also normal on the forum. age is only a factor in so far as who is able to be on websites all day, or doing creative stuff.

its kind of funny to think about a target demo at all because it implies some kind of outreach, but newgrounds biggest outreach is people on other sites talking about it like its a nuclear dump site or a graveyard of forgotten souls.

They most likely either forgot the rating feature existed or used Postybirb.
