Windows 98 runs DOS natively...

Point is you don't need to dual-boot when you can just exit to DOS in Windows.

A truly prophetic sig...

Going for an obvious recommendation:

The Commander Keen games are an excellent series of platformers from ID Software's early days - I'd highly recommend giving them a try.

(You can get the first episode entirely free, BTW - shareware my beloved)

You can try the 8-Bit Guy's "Planet X3". It's for DOS, and it's a worthwhile game.

David needs to clean up his garage, which is crammed with copies of Planet X3, perhaps you can help him clean up a bit?

If I recall, it's not pure DOS but an emulation of DOS. Less than XP, but still not as genuine as DOS 6.22 running windows 3.1.

(Also I want to run 3.1 in 6.22 for the funnies so dos would be a must)

Instead of a shotgun he has his hand and all he does is just TOMA and everything within a 30 km radius ceases to exist

Apart from several that were already mentioned (definitely play Prince of Persia and Jazz Jackrabbit)…

Dyna Blaster (puzzle + action game about making your way to the castle to rescue your girlfriend)

iu_1281834_4428769.png

Bio Menace (shooting aliens in a city, sewers, caves and forests)

iu_1281835_4428769.webp

Prehistorik (action platformer from the Stone Age)

iu_1281836_4428769.png

Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion (killing horror creatures; cool death animations for that time)

iu_1281837_4428769.png

King's Quest (an unforgiving adventure; keep save backups)

iu_1281838_4428769.webp

and Legend of Kyrandia (a very funny adventure; play if you don't know what a 'fireberry' is).

Crosscountry Canada. You WILL truck this block of concrete to Trois-Rivières on two hours of sleep and yesterday's breakfast.

It's kind of funny in hindsight how bizarre this game gets for an edutainment title. You can get your cargo stolen because the game never tells you how to secure it. And how the heck do you ship to Churchill, Manitoba? There's also a bug where you can go to restaurants while your seatbelt is still on.
