VOICE ACTORS OF NEWGROUNDS, UNITE!
...and then probably split up again, as it's every VA for themselves in the 15th Newgrounds Voice Acting Contest!
In honor of @Pingu reeling me in with the same concept four years ago, and because I currently can't produce anything myself, I thought I'd host another competition for this year's Halloween. It's open to anyone here and of course there are prizes to be won!
If you want to join in, you have until Halloween to create a Halloween-flavored audio skit. How exactly you interpret this, is up to you - you can make it about trick-or-treating or other Halloween traditions, about Halloween folklore or simply a scary/horror story, but every genre goes. You'll be judged on:
- Quality of the voice acting - how convincing is your character? How distinct do they sound if there are more than one?
- Quality of the writing - how gripping is the story and how natural the dialogue?
- Quality of the production - how well are the voices recorded and mixed? Are music and sound effects used to support the story?
Since it's a VA contest, the first one will weigh the heaviest on your score, and the third one the lightest - this is to give starting actors or those who can't afford high end equipment a fighting chance as well.
To judge your submissions, I've managed to enlist the help of @Ferstofus (writer), and @PaleFreak, @SailorSilverStar and @Tommytomtom619 (voice actors) - massive thanks for their help in advance, they're great people to have around and they bring a big slab of experience to the table to ensure you all get a fair trial.
THE RULES
- All entries need to comply with the NG Audio Guidelines
- All entries need to be audio projects published on October 31st 23:59 EST at the latest and need to be tagged VAC15
- All entries need to be between 3 and 6 minutes in length
- All entries need to be originals written for the purpose of this contest
- Max 1 entry per contestant
- No team entries; you can use music or effects that comply with the guidelines, but other than that, it's everyone for themselves
- No A rated entries
- The rules are subject to updates in case I forget something (again)
THE REWARDS
I'm putting up $175 towards the total prize money, with $100 going to 1st, $50 to 2nd and $25 to 3rd place winners. If anyone who reads this wants to sponsor the contest, please get in touch with me. If enough sponsors show up, prize money may overflow into 4th place or even beyond that.
Additionally, the top 10 entries will be featured on the frontpage VA slots for at least a couple of days each. And I may still have another few cards up my sleeve regarding the promotion of your work... not making any promises, but I'm working on something extra - I just didn't want to wait with launching the contest any longer so as to give everyone as much time as possible.
WELL, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
Get cracking, feel free to share your submissions in this post, just make sure they are published and tagged correctly when Halloween ends, as only those will be considered entries. Any questions, post them here too. Really looking forward to seeing what you got!
