It can be anything really.
I wrote a few pages of Left 4 Dead fanfiction starring some original characters. The story opens up to a safehouse which is also a church. Their plan is to escape on foot using the bells as a distraction. While writing, I thought they're getaway plan could use more punch to it and figured that the former pastor would've also been a doomsday prepper and stored a bunch of gasoline in the basement.
So naturally, the bells draw in as much common infected before a timebomb detonates the hoard of fuel. I scrapped the idea. Blowing up a church is a little too "Garth Ennis" for my taste and feels uncharacteristic for the L4D setting. Also, it's just too loud of an opening. Needs something quieter to introduce the characters.
