@PsychoGoldfish just launched an update to our Calendar!

We ditched the grid-based calendar design in favor of one that gets to the point, with a list of dates and events, much like I’ve been including in my news posts in recent years.

Events should be easier to find and it works on mobile! We’re also now linking to it from the front page.

Additional enhancements: events are color-coded to specify which creator-type they are geared towards and we now have the option to include additional text. There are more fun ideas on our list but for now we wanted to get this change out there.

Ongoing Updates

The feed clean-up script has been running in the background for the past two weeks and just finished last night. This has been a big project to improve feed performance and reduce database storage and it’s almost all wrapped up.

@liljim has been working on a large number of back-end overhauls and clean-ups that will likely roll out in the next few weeks. As with most work this year, these changes will be invisible but let us know if bugs crop up.

@64bitsanimation have been on fire with their demakes this month, first with an NES take of Dark Souls 3 and now Helldivers 2 as a Neo Geo game.

Speaking of Neo Geo, the Punch Punch Forever soundtrack has strong Neo Geo energy at 2:44, although I could argue Speedo is the living embodiment of modern-age Neo Geo energy, just look at his Shock Troopers piece!

This new calendar looks brilliant

Oh my god almost immediately I’m looking at more far-off events, this ROCKS! The color-coding wasn’t obvious until reading this, I haven’t seen if there’s one on PC or not yet but a Legend might be helpful there? But that is also awesome, all of this is a welcome change honestly!

Congratulations Newgrounds, the more updates, the better the site gets.

We're planning to add a filter selector, which would coincide with a key for the colors.

I'm a fan of this update; it's a lot simpler than having to constantly navigate through the different months. The colour-coding is an excellent idea; you get to immediately see which collabs are for which medium! Not to mention I no longer have to zoom in on mobile.

That being said, does anyone know if there are any remaining pages using the old NG design? There used to be one for wallpapers but I'm pretty sure that's been replaced with a Wiki page...

The big page that's still in use and on the old layout is monthly voting, which we intend to replace this year.

There's also some pages related to the old rev-share system that will likely not get updated unless we revive the rev-share system. And an old "Games with Medals" page that will be redirected to the current page for that, maybe today!

Anyway, it's nice to see any news regarding RWappin. Everything You Know is Wrong is a true historical statement in the world of indie animation. BTW, as a Polish speaker I pronounce RWappin's last name Krzak as Xhahkk. Change my view! :D

Maxx gave me an early preview of the album and I've had it on repeat non-stop for the past 2 weeks. Probably my fav project to come out of a Newgrounds user ever since Kawaisprite released Chuckie Finster album back in 2020. Even going up against commercial musicians, new maxxjamez album might be in my top albums of 2024.

I have a question, what the colors mean?

Yellow - General Events, like Meetups or events that cross all the Portals.

Red - Animation

Blue - Games

Green - Audio

Pink - Art

Thank you so much, @TomFulp, @PsychoGoldfish, and @liljim. I really like the "More Events" button, which provides a clear overview of all the events happening. You don't have to click on the next month to see what events are coming up. I personally enjoy redesigns.

I enjoy straightforward, minimalistic design that communicates information quickly. Great calendar!

There’s also a link-less Grey, likely carried over from when the calendar contained U.S. holidays, which, I don’t think you need NG to tell you it’s Labor Day anymore

Looks great, I'm digging the color coded events.

The design's pretty solid, though I'd like to give some criticisms.

One thing I'd have done differently would've been to put the colour key at the top - it wasn't obvious what the colours meant until I scrolled down.

I'd have also gone for differentiating events by both shape and colour, so the key would still work even if someone was colourblind.

With roughly one in twelve men having some kinda colourblindness, I'd say this was a pretty major oversight on your part.
