Shojo (Tokyo Tower)

Ferfou vs Dr. Stitch (colab)

Fun collab, both did great work, Ferfou’s art was just a little bit more detailed and polished

Vote: Ferfou

Hanami

Wanzu vs Michael and Noot

Loved both and the spread on final Wanzu page but the colors and quality of Michael and Noots really elevated it to the next level

Vote: Michael and Noot

Yokai (Aokigahara)

Desmond and Guido vs Tredecima

Fantastic animation from Desmond and Guido, especially from someone who hasn’t animated before, and Tredecima’s entry once again was illustrated beautifully and delivered on the horror, gave me the heebie jeebies. Tough choice between two excellent submissions. (i'm gonna be saying that a lot probably)

Vote: Desmond and Guido

Koinobori (Fertility)

Yuna vs Victory Man (NSFW?)

Creative interpretations of the prompt from both, Victoryman truly will do anything to accomplish victory. In this case however, I’m given the vote to Yuna due to completed backgrounds, color, and the fun incorporation of other characters.

Vote: Yuna

Konbini

Gouda (NSFW) vs Magai

Magai’s was polished and had an actual story even if it was mundane. Magai’s a good listener.

Vote: Magai

Karate

Cyrus vs Hime

Imma give it to Cyrus for the dynamic action shots and the eye-popping color. Hime’s made me crack up though and was excellently illustrated.

Vote: Cyrus

Matsuri

Frankie vs Sentimia

Another difficult choice. Both stories I enjoyed immensely, I loved the animation and creative framing in Sentimia’s (especially page 4) but I’m gonna give this one to Frankie due to the polish and completedness.

Vote: Frankie

Kill God

Sae-Hyeon vs Sack

I dug the clown god, but preferred Sae-Hyeon’s art and depictions of the freaky demon-god thing

Vote: Sae-Hyeon

Salaryman

Janitor vs Luigi

Janitor’s was funny, but Luigi’s took me on a weird-ass noir journey that ended with Janny getting smashed into the pavement by giant Luigi-ass.

Vote: Luigi

Visual Kei

Wietse vs Dizzy

Aw man, two stellar entries that I enjoyed thoroughly. I really like how they tell a complete story together. Dizzy’s was super creative and entertaining with how she gathered the materials from other crabs to prepare for the show, then Wietse was pure catharsis rocking out with the animation. I think I’m gonna have to give it to Dizzy by a hair.

Vote: Dizzy

Cooking

Z vs Love

Awesome work, Love’s was hilarious, Z’s was illustrated immensely well.

Vote: Z

Hentai

Florida Man (NSFW) vs Tripp (NSFW)

(ಠ_ಠ)

Vote: Tripp

Ninja

R.Ant (NSFW) vs Adni (NSFW)

(ಠ_ಠ) Wait Ant’s was actually good? Sorry Adni. The weird incest joke and kid kissing didn’t help.

Vote: Ant

Shinto Shrine

Cassidy vs Dylan

Two great entries, I liked the soul-searching mind trip of Cassidy’s but Dylan’s was cute and super polished and professionally illustrated.

Vote: Dylan

Pachinko

Davok vs Ludwig

I liked Ludwigs illustrations but you gotta get your hands on some printer paper, your art is too good to be used on lined paper, Idk if you like the aesthetic or something but to me it just makes it look amateurish and like it's drawn on the back of your homework or something.

Vote: Davok

Tajiroshima

Kome vs Pe’le

Amazing entries from both, excellent artwork and animation. Tough call.

Vote: Kome

Idols

Moses vs Harry

I'm sure Harry's submission will be awesome when he finishes it. Moses comic was hilarious and well illustrated, I never knew crocodiles were evil.

Vote: Moses

Karaoke

Morgan vs Mishka

Mishka's comic was great, solid colors and illustrations and characterizations.

Vote: Mishka

Tempura

Rhea and Monkshood vs Vera

Rhea's was more polished and colored.

Vote:Rhea and Monkshood

Mecha (Mt. Fuji)

Soren and Centurion vs Lenard

Never thought I’d have a hard time choosing between the GOATs Soren and Centurion and someone else, but Lenard’s animation was insane. I think if Bon hadn’t made his entry in a week, or if he’d had almost any other oppponent he’d have no doubt secured the victory, unfortunately he faced the Bat at full power.

Vote: Lenard

Shinkansen

Godefroy vs Boxing Wizard

Really enjoyed the action of Boxing Wizards entry, every punch was dynamic and had serious weight to it. That being said, Godefroys was beautifully illustrated, had color, and was 6 pages compared to only 4 from BW.

Vote: Godefroy

Onsen

Sanctus vs Admiral Pizza

Damn, I feel kind of bad voting against my team so much this round, but our opponents went all out on their entries. Admiral Pizza’s was fantastic and hilarious, but Sanctus’s was one of my favorite entries this round, please forgive me Admiral.

Vote: Sanctus

Kaiju (Imperial Palace)

Ocapon vs Awesoman (colab) WIP Credits

Vote: I’m abstaining from voting here, me and Spar both worked our asses off on this and I’m super proud of what we accomplished.

Shudo

Sanguine vs Oji-sama

Sanguine drinking his own poison was funny, so was Oji-Sama’s entire comic

Vote: Oji-sama

Yakuza

Celia vs Mr Overkill

Fantastic work from both! Hard choice, Celia's art is peak and I loved the coloring and dialogue and everything about it, but Mr Overkill's story went hard, it looked like manga panels, the story was insane and Baphomet Florida man was disturbing and villainous as hell.

Vote: Mr Overkill

Touge

Cheras vs Freddie

Vote: Cheras

Origami

Epona (Posted above) vs Violet and Rosie

(Vote anyway) Epona didn’t drink any Potions. Violet and Rosie take the Gold!

Vote: Origami Samurai

Shibuya

Kalinka vs Evelin

Damn Kalinka's comic was really well illustrated and hilarious, love how she used the power of singing to conquer rather than giving in to Lenards evil influence.

Vote: Kalinka

Yomotsu Hirasaka

Pharaoh Tikas vs Teresa

Really special sendoff for Tikas, great work all around.

Vote: Tikas

For the 3rd edition, I've sought to expand its scope from beyond the current pool of potential crabs acquired. Therefore, I've decided that Newgrounds could be a good place for /CRAB/ to grow and prosper. Is your character up to it?

Q&A

How to join the event (18+ only)?

Share a comic, illustration, puppet show, animation, video game, music album or whatever your heart desires of your original character. Show them introducing themselves, fighting, being kidnapped by the GM or whatever you deem appropriate. The entry can be as small as a single image or as big as a 50 page epic. The most common choice is comic but many people have done different things the entire tournament.

Third Tournament?

Two years ago we organized on /co/ (4chan) the most successful OC Tournament with guests from various boards (20+) and then we improved the formula the following year with 48 OCs for /crab/2.

When does it start? How long would it take?

Mid July. 3 rounds in about 11 weeks.

Do I need to know what happened in the previous parts?

Not really, but if you’re interested, you can dig deeper in our discord or archive.

Discord?

Access for contestants only.

Are they individual or group duels?

Depending on the number, teams of 4, 5 or even 6 characters would be formed. Last year we had 8 teams of 6 characters.

What types of duels?

Thematically, only one of the three planned stages is Combat, the other two can be anything. The First year it was Dance and Cooking. Then Sports and Leisure in the Second.

How’s a winner declared?

Individual points will be added to the team total, defined by voting. There is no elimination so you have a chance to come back. The team with the most points at the end takes all.

How does communication work?

Mainly on Discord, for the simple reason that it's not efficient to keep communication only in the threads. However it is possible to avoid Discord at your own risk, one of the contestants last year did it.

Who runs everything?

Me, the Gamemaster, a multidimensional wizard of thousands of years of virginity and power.

Should you choose to enter your precious character, a dear future crab, be warned that many great and terrible things await them in my Bucket. Though there is much to lose in this tournament, there is much to gain. Do they seek wealth? Power? Some other base desire, perhaps. Doesn’t matter what their wish may be, it will be granted should they win. Whatever walk of life they come from, I’m looking for crabs who won’t shirk from attaining their goal. One not just with an exoskeleton, mind you, but those that stand vertebrate. One whose true nature endures against the perils that await them. What will your crab do to gain their fondest dream? No matter what path you choose, always remember that you cannot always be a hero, but one can always be a crab.

Response to Comics and Random Art Battles - 3rd Edition 2024-09-09 09:14:45

Stage 3 - FIGHT!

Place: The (legendary) Bucket

That's it, just a gigantic Bucket floating in space.

Ringmaster: Collaborator Berbie

Rules:

Anyone who:

  • Comes into contact with the floor outside of the ring
  • Crosses the hole above and comes into contact with outer space
  • Is knocked out and does not stand up until Berbie counts to 10
  • Gives up
  • Is killed

Automatically loses.

If both fighters are knocked out and neither can reach their feet by the count of ten, the match will be declared a Draw.

Things allowed:

  • Killing your opponent is allowed
  • Killing Berbie is allowed
  • Other crabs as spectators
  • Touching the Bucket walls

Things NOT allowed:

  • Destroy or damage the Bucket itself.
  • Leaving the Bucket by any means.

The Bucket is protected by my most powerful spells - it is indestructible. The arena itself however can be destroyed.

Things that are frowned upon:

Receiving help from other crabs during the duel (KWAB)

Things you're entitled to:

Achieving your Full Potential - utilising all the power ups, past and future, of your respective universe. Nothing is beyond my reach.

FAQ

Order/sequence of the duels?

All duels occur simultaneously in different dimensions. There is no order and no sequence.

Multiple fighters (like Soren & Centurion or Desmond & Guido) do they both have to get knocked out or just one?

Both

Characters like Tredecima or Wanzu who have clones/avatars outside the bucket, do all clones/avatars that want to participate in the fight have to start the match inside the ring?

If they are outside the Bucket, they cannot interfere inside.

It is not possible for the same entity to be simultaneously inside and outside. Either you are in or you are out (and lose).

When one of the clones/fighters/avatars is knocked out of the ring, are they out of the fight and can no longer participate?

I will leave that answer to whoever has to deal with such nonsense

Can the Bucket arena change size and architecture on the fly, or it has to be an exact platform?

It just stays the same.

But if you are able to change the dimensions in any way, you better have an excellent argument to justify it.

The team with most points at the end gets to win and most importantly, their Wish (tm). The rest will see their worlds/universes obliterated along with them and all the gnomes in existence.

Hey, I have some questions.

What happens if I speak Spanish?

How does Discord work exactly? And what if I don't like using voice chat?

How do the fights go? Do I have to show my OC first?

Those are all my questions.

Those are all my questions.

1.) It’s alright if you do, the GM and several other users in the tournament speak fluent Spanish. However, a lot of text discussions do primarily happen in English.

2.) You make an account over on the Discord website or application and folllow its directions. Its primarily acts as the text and image chatroom for the game. If you don’t like to use voice chat, that is fine as well.

3.) How /crab/ works:

  • You would show your OC and a follow the art prompt to enter into the game via “The Pit”
  • If you are allowed entry, your OC is then “abducted” and sent to “the Bucket” to win a wish.
  • Eventually, you are sorted out into a team with other artists. Your unofficial leader would be “the headliner” and it would be up to you to discuss.
  • Over the course of several weeks, you are paired up with one artist [or two depending on circumstances] from an opposing team and must draw any piece of artwork. These are called “rounds”.
  • There is a voting period among the users, and the winning piece of artwork with the most votes wins the round. The team with the most points wins and as a group, decides on what that wish is.

Unfortunately, the game is closed and we are currently in the final round of the game. Entry into the game ended a few months ago. However, if you still want to see how the game currently ends, you may try to use the Discord link to enter in if it still works or directly contact the Gamemaster.

If entering before the initial deadline, there is a Discord server known as “The Pit” where you would enter your character and follow the art prompt to be allowed access. Then you would be allowed entrance to the server proper. There was a short period of time before the deadline where artists were let in without an art prompt. The link to the Pit is still open (check the Gamemaster’s posts), but, access to the actual server currently is closed for now.

I'd be interested if you did this next year.

Although I still don't understand how the teams work, is it create (X number) of characters and make a team your self? Or is it enter 1 OC and get randomly assigned a team by the GM?

Don't give two sh*ts about what other people think of you. If you have a high opinion of yourself that's all that matters.

Its post 1 OC (or multiple, duos are accepted) and then get randomly or thematically assigned a team.
