The implication that people even exist who would be attracted to that… human, even as a video game character like in Wolfenstein or similar, is horrifying to me.
Anyway, about the idea that he fell in that category: We can never truly know what made him go insane. Not even by reading his book - after all, he wasn’t self aware in the slightest and apparently had a penchant for exaggerating things, so you’d just be taking him at his word.
