If we’re talking about emotional connections, and not just characters I think are hot just based on appearance… one of the formulas to make me sympathize with (and often, eventually crush on) a character seems to be “an artist/entertainer who fell to the dark side because of judgment from others.” I think it’s because I see myself that way a lot and instinctively want to build a relationship of mutual comfort and support from someone who’s dealt with the same.
In real life, that got me in trouble at least once, from trying to befriend people who then turned out to be hostile individuals that really should be judged and shunned. I have a feeling the same would happen with any of these villains if they actually existed, but it’s fiction and, within the boundaries of ethics in portraying a truly healthy relationship so as not to set a bad example, I can spin it however I want.

yknow ive never actually thought to check here on newgrounds but i totally should! as much as i complain about his lack of canon content it totally helps that hes one of the most wildly popular characters from the game, the constant stream of fanart he gets soothes the soul.

I felt as though Yuna made for one of the emotionally-impactful characters in Final Fantasy X. I can understand why there was - and is - such high demand for the continuation of her story.
I also (quite unexpectedly) found a connection with Midna. She was obnoxious and mischievous most of the way through, yet you come to realize that it's only because she is hurt and embracing her unfavorable trappings was the best way to survive.

An older one I had when I was younger was Malon/Romani from Zelda. They're technically different characters, but they use the same model. Malon helps you get into Hyrule Castle in Ocarina by giving you a chicken and I just thought she was cool for that. In Majora, Romani lives in a ranch you can only get to on day 3 until mid game. On day 3, you find Romani after she's been abducted and messed up by aliens. I used to feel bad because I didn't know how to help her.
Second one was Vivian from Paper Mario. She comes in on a chapter that stumped me for way longer than it should have. Her design is really neat and she helps you out a ton when you lose your party members.
