Alonso's and Ocon's car for 2022. What do you think about the new Alpine guys? :D

I wasn't fond of the McLaren livery at launch but seeing it around Barcelona in the natural light it's been growing on me. I'm glad that there are a few more options in the liveries so far asides from black and white, it made 2020/21 cars harder to tell apart when it was RB/Merc/Alpine in black and Williams/Haas/Alfa in white.

Not a fan of the Alpine. The Aston Martin and Ferrari look really good. I can't wait for qualifying in Bahrain so we can see where the new cars are at. With how long the teams have had to develop the cars, I doubt we'll see something like Brawn GP dominating the constructors championship out of nowhere, but a boy can dream.

I like the Mclaren livery too, with a little black and a slightly lighter blue than usual.

I think the Williams livery is very nice, this dark blue was probably last seen on the Prost GP cars. Especially in the pictures taken in the rainy weather, it was very nice with the rain tyres.

By the way, the cars will really be more recognisable from a distance, as Mercedes have gone back to silver and Alpine have got a bit of pink.

Willams has gone full blue, Alfa Romeo is still using its test livery and Haas has stayed pretty much with the same livery as last year.

Pink cars are a hill I'll die on. I liked the full BWT from Force India/Racing Point. Poor Ocon will be having flashbacks to being back in a pink car with Otmar as his team principal again.

I kinda hope Alfa keeps their test livery, I think it's neat. Haas needs to stop pretending they're an American owned team at this point and just become Uralkali F1.

Testing day 1 and everyone had their sandbags and wind tubes on, but there's some good foreshadowing photos of how things will look this season with George following Charles:

iu_559471_1387436.png

I'm a McLaren fan, and I'm hoping this season shakes things up and surprises everyone. Something like Williams just nailing the regs and blowing the usual Merc/RB podiums out of the water, or Schumacher ending up on the podium. 2021 ended up being a title fight to the end which was more entertaining than 2020 when I ended up more interested in the Formula 1.5 of "everybody but Merc and RB", and I hope 2022 isn't just two teams screaming out of the gate and leaving the rest of the pack seeing nothing but blue flags all season.

This was to be expected. It would be unwise to leave such a sponsor on the car any longer.

Checo is on Pole tomorrow for the first time, and looks like Haas will run one car with Mick sitting out recovering.

Hamilton P16 is wild, I thought Merc were sandbagging but clearly at this point the engine is trash. Being a McLaren fan, this isn't going to be a fun season, and I kind of wish they had stayed with Renault now...

Three races down, Baku next. It looks like Ferrari is out of the top again this year. As a McLaren fan, it's been hard watching the team slide since the new regs, the Mercedes engine has been improving but its leaps behind where Red Bull is.

Some predictions for the season:

Alonso gets a win

Stroll gets a podium

McLaren loses a podium chance over a technical failure

Gasly and Ocon crash each other out (again) and take media jabs at each other

Hmm interesting predictions! However, I think that Alpine has a bigger chance to get a podium than McLaren this season, but who knows?

They certainly have the potential to capitalize if one of the high performing teams drop the ball. Both Ocon and Gasly are race winners so they should perform under pressure. I don't think you could team order one to defend the position of the other though.

Looking forward to this weekend!

Still not sure how I feel about sprint races, but the new shootout format is an improvement I think.

I’ve been sidelined with flu for a few days and decided to poke through old races on F1TV archive.

Just got done bingeing the 2010 season.

What a great five-way driver battle going all the way into the last race!

And Seb wins having never been the points leader :v

I'm not really fond of the sprint or shootout. As much as I like seeing cars go nyoom, I don't think the amount of damage was worth the few points they handed out. Add to that the lack of tire options for some drivers and eventual withdraw of one of the Williams from the sprint for damage.

Sprint would be good for the midfield teams to get their sponsors some on camera time, but it just ends up being the same leaders as the main race.

In their defence, something like 8 people are dead from the flooding so I think its the right call.

Would have been a great time to see the full wet tires actually used for a race at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari

Very curious about those tires, as well.

That WEC Spa race start without warmers was wild.

It will be interesting to see how things play out for the future of F1 tire-wise.

Pirelli was supposed to trial a new wet tire at Imola, which is unfortunate timing. They are also planning on running a new compound trialed before Silverstone. Allegedly these will last longer and I assume have different performance for the 2024 "no blankets" rule.

Hey there.

So, like a lot of other Americans, I recently got into the sport because I started watching Netflix's Drive to Survive series late last year.

I'll admit that I'm smitten by the culture surrounding it and love the drama that unfolds on and off the track on any given week.

Definitely want to closely follow it all from beginning to end in 2025 and hopefully talk about it with you fine folks in this thread.

Think there's any shot that someone other than Max Verstappen wins the Driver's Championship? He seems like a cool guy, but I'm ready for a new champ after all of these years of Red Bull dominance. I'd even settle for Lewis Hamilton returning to the top...

For me it was a mix of Drive to Survive and Rocket Powered Mohawk on youtube. That guy is hilarious.

I kind of like how it is pretty 'easy' to follow the teams and drivers. There's only 10 teams and 20 drivers. It's not like Nascar or indycar with way more going on. I am excited to see how adding another team with Cadillac joining in a couple of years will change things up.

The way that car development has been going the last couple of years Red Bull's big advantage has definitely gone away - on the back half of 2024 it looked like McLaren had caught up to them with Ferrari and Mercedes not too far behind. I think next year Norris has a real chance to beat Verstappen and who knows what Hamilton could do if Ferrari doesn't screw him over with bad strategy.

With the rules changes coming up in 2026 it will be interesting to see what teams will continue to spend money on this years cars vs looking ahead to the new regulations. We saw how important that focus was when RB ran away with the new regulations allowing ground effect again in 2022 and had a nearly unbeatable car for a couple of years in a row and how Mercedes went straight to the middle of the pack.

Last year I started watching Formula E - another FIA open wheel series that's all electric - they sound like oversized powerwheels and the drivers seem to treat them like bumper cars. 2024 Monaco was very entertaining for the crashes alone. This year they've added more horsepower and all wheel drive. With AWD and that instant electric motor torque they can accelerate quicker than an F1 car off the line. The races are shorter, usually only 30-ish laps but they often to double-headers in the same weekend which makes for some good TV. And they've been flirting with the idea of pit stops with DC fast charging to extend range. You can watch it free on Roku channel if you're interested. There have already been 2 races in the new season - Brazil and Mexico.

I'm still too new to the sport to speak definitively on it, but I think most people are ready for him to at least be competitive with Max Verstappen again.

I watch F1 for a while, but I totally agree with you. This is a new challenge for him, and he has the motivation to proove that he is still a top driver at the age of 40 (yes, he is). And winning a world title in a Ferrari is something that every driver wants (even if they not say). And Ferrari was having a very strong finish last season, they were very close to McLaren and almost won the Constructor's championship. So this year can be very promising both Lewis and Charles.

The 2025 F1 season kicks off in Australia in about 11 hours from where I'm typing this!

Really hoping that this is a year where someone really challenges Verstappen in the Driver's Championship. Don't care if said challenger is from McLaren or Ferrari. I'd even MAYBE tolerate Mercedes returning to their winning ways...

I talked to @ZJ in chat but forgot to put my thoughts in here. Uh...Spoiler warning? I hope anyone has had time to process or at least read the results before stumbling on down to the Clubs & Crews section of the venerable Newground Bee Bee Ess.

The pre-season testing felt like a snooze fest and finally seeing what everyone can do was nice. I know a few teams will hold back during testing or they spend a lot of time with all those weird doodads testing the airflow over wings that they don't actually give us any idea how they will perform.

I found Australia 2025 really exciting! It had everything - a great little story about Piastri having a chance at being the first Aussie to win the Aussie race, no clear dominant car, although the Mclarens were pulling away from Verstappen for a bit there when he was struggling with tires and if not for ill timed safety cars or weather we had a few teams in the lead. If not for that last bit of rain and going off into the grass I think Piastri would have gotten around Norris. I don't agree with the team orders not to let them race when the track was still dry - they could have built up a lead and been able to better time their switch to intermediate tires. Although I'm not sure if he would have been able to handle the pressure if their roles were reversed and he had to hold off Verstappen at the end of the race. It seems like Norris has gained a lot of confidence and is better able to manage that stress. Piastri is still pretty new at being a front runner. I hope the team gives him a chance to see what he can do up front.

I feel for all the rookies who crashed out (and some vets). What a trial by fire for your first race. Kimi Antinolli really impressed me. I think Mercedes could be a dark horse for some good points hauls. They might not be the fastest but having 2 drivers in the top 5 consistently is something we might not see with many teams this year with so many rookies on the grid.

Haas brought a tractor to a car race. I don't know what their deal was but they had a surprisingly fast car by the end of last season. Bearman was lapped, unlapped himself in safety car and then got lapped again.

Ferrari is still making terrible strategy decisions - It was painful to watch them micromanage Lewis in the same race they couldn't even predict that old slicks were a bad idea to keep on when the rain came back. fuckin' Sauber had better strategy and a better result than they did!

Lance stroll somehow didn't crash.

I don't think I have a favorite team or driver that I'm really rooting for. I just like to see exciting races. But if I did have to choose I think I would root for Carlos Sainz. Ferrari did him dirty last year announcing Hamilton was going to get his seat right at the start of the year and he couldn't do anything about it no matter how well he did. The Williams looks fast this year so I hope he can get up there in the driver standings.

we've got China this weekend. It's a sprint weekend - I still don't really get the sprint races - I guess they could be interesting it as qualifying instead of having a whole other qualifying session before the main race it would be better to me. I do kind of like the idea of an all out brawl if they didn't do any pit stops and you had to get to the end on the tires you start with but give them enough fuel they can try to go all out for every lap...that I could get behind.

Chinese Grand Prix thoughts:

Lewis was property fast in the Sprint. Then he got Ferrari'd with the main race - not only did they make changes before the main grand prix that ruined his mojo they had a double disqualification post race. Absolute clown show going on at that team. As per.

Much less carnage from the rookies. I hope the youngins can build up confidence and put on some strong drives this season.

Haas found their speed again. Sauber back to the back of the pack. Nature is healing.

Redbull.... they've built a car around an absolute freak of nature who is the only being on the planet able to drive it. I don't know how many more careers they're willing to flush down the toilet before they realize this. Good luck to Yuki being sacrificed to the verstappengeddon car at his home race. Truly evil shit going on in that garage.

And yet Max wins again in Japan. His fourth consecutive win in that country.

It was probably a fool's errand to think that he would fall off completely this year, but he obliterated the competition in such a way that I'm worried that he's gonna easily take the Drivers Championship again.

McLaren had another great day with both their drivers getting on the podium again at least. That was cool.

I think Japan proved my point that only Max can handle the car they've designed around him and only him. Yuki finished down in 12th - outside of the points and 4 places behind Hadjar who he was racing with just 2 weeks ago.

I don't see Verstappen obliterating the competition just yet. He wasn't anywhere close in China, a very distant 4th - 16 seconds behind the lead. Japan was also not the dominant 30+ second lead we've seen from him in previous years. I honestly think Norris lost Japan because of bad strategy - He was purposefully sitting back 2.5 seconds to stay in cleaner air and maintain his tires for too long. He didn't start his drive to challenge Verstappen until it was too late. At the end of the race he was knocking a tenth of a second off Verstappen's lead every lap.

McLaren had another great day with both their drivers getting on the podium again at least. That was cool.

They came home with a great result for the team but now Verstappen is only 1 point behind Norris in the drivers championship. They will probably maintain the constructors championship for a while because they have both drivers challenging for podium positions consistently. But it's only the 3rd race of the season, things could change - Red Bull looked dominant this time last year and they finished 3rd in the team standings.

I've been impressed with Kimi Antonelli - he's clearly the best rookie this season and even lead the race for a good number of laps today during the pit stop window. I think he broke the record for youngest leader in a race (previously held by Verstappen).
