Self Promote Your Best Song Here! 2021-12-06 19:07:11

So I’ve been making music on here for over 3 years (yes I’m relatively new to music production, before that I was just a listener) and, while the portal is a great way to gain attention for the thing you’re posting, I wanted to make it a bit more specific and personal. Therefore, as a fellow random unknown member of this site, I propose the masses to post what they believe to be their best songs here. It doesn’t have to be the most recent thing you’ve made, it just has to be your best, or one of. I felt like this would promote more communication and discussion; the idea is that a group of musicians would come together and take inspiration from each other. This is also the first time I’ve made a forum so there’s that to consider. Honestly this is probably a bad idea anyways but I’m doing it because why not. I guess I’ll start:

I’ve done 39 states so far, with ups and downs, but I do believe the most recent one might be my best by a small margin. I’m talking about North Dakota; I tried to go for a frigid atmosphere and tell a story, different than most of my other songs that really just detail the environment. Enjoy!

That one is interesting; I wouldn't necessarily market it as you attempting to replicate Creo style, but rather put you r own spin on it. The drop especially really diverged from the feeling of most of his music, which made it sound quite unique. Biggest issue with the song is probably the outro and questionable sound font on the brass in the middle, but everything else is done really well.

Here's the boss theme from my game 'SteakClock in the Desert'. I'm very proud of this one.

Honestly the best part of this is just how well you replicated the melody, even getting the really fast trills near the beginning. I actually remixed this exact song on my SoundCloud already, and appreciate this alternative style. The dissonance is also for some reason really nice to listen to; this is definitely your best song.

I do enjoy this probably a little more than Home, just because it’s more original. However, it lacks progression; it progresses nicely up to a point and then sadly stalls for the rest. It would have been nice to make it a little more interesting in the second half.

Probably said it before, but I feel my current best, and the most representative of me, is this.

Most will say it's something else, and I'm also fine with that.

I’m no expert in lyrical music, but I did find that the lyrics were just really well done. It does feel like it’s gaining tension and progression which is nice. But I guess I came in with the expectation that when the drums did come in, it might be a fast complicated rhythm like something you’d hear in a cursedsnake song. It turned out that the type of snare I came in expecting to hear at some point was there, but only with a more standard pattern, which is fine. Overall, I do think it is your best song (at least from what I’ve heard) and it’s well made.

Glad you think so, cheers! ☺️ And thank you for the kind words!

I guess you missed the complexity of the end section — it's a four-way solo that took me ten days to learn in my current state, and has even caught seasoned drummers off guard. I've made it even harder now with the New Orleans bass drum pattern when practising this, but it wouldn't fit the simplicity of the song.

My tutor and I had a discussion some time back about how many songs with technically solid drumming aren't necessarily the most memorable; I want to rectify that. I want to give people joy, the same joy I feel when I take to the drums, and I'd love for them to be as good as I can make them.

Upon another listen, I suddenly realized that you actually performed the drums live; I can tell by the slightly less than perfectly on time snares that; it gives it a very human and raw quality that’s difficult to describe, especially in the outro that, you’re right, I didn’t give enough credit for.

Well I thought the song you put here was a one off, but it appears that it’s you’re specialty and I should evaluate it as such. Just take my words with a grain of salt because this is generally not a genre I listen to.

So I do like the toaster one more, simply because the irony and crude humor works with the voice much better in that one, rather than a slightly more down-to-earth and realistic situation as presented here. The pure realism detracts from the ironic humor, and I think it takes away from the song’s impact or what you were probably intending to do with it. Other than that, it’s the standard for your music, and I appreciate the incredibly blunt and uncensored lyrics that defy the mass online censorship that has become predominant across all social media.

Yeah I would call that more “ambient trap” than hip-hop specifically because of the lack of lyrics. I say this because I despise 99% of rap music, and think the modern renditions of it have completely sucked all the life and passion out of the genre in exchange for monetary gain. It’s a shame, I do think the genre still has a lot of musical potential that is being mostly unused and unexplored because it’s too “different from the norm”. That mentality has stifled not just rap music, but all pop music on the radio today, and there just isn’t any sign of a return of actual talent and creativity in that realm since actual experimentation doesn’t earn big bucks.

The song itself, on the other hand, is definitely interesting. The most original part of it, in my opinion, is the sound effect usage; what do they imply in the context of the song? I can’t even discern where the individual ones came from in the first place; I think that works to the song’s benefit, since it provides an atmosphere of ambiguity and mysteriousness. Nice work

I can see that, a lot of people seem to like the toaster one

but not many people really pay mind to Lonely Night Solo Session.

The reason why Toaster Love is so ridiculous while LNSS is relatable

is because some of my songs, like Toaster Love,

are just really stupid joke ideas I thought of in my head (or saw online, in the case of Furry Avore),

but then songs like Lonely Night Solo Session are ones where I take something real

that I personally went through, but make it about sex

and make it as profane and trashy as I can in a way that sounds less serious,

so that people will write it off as just a joke song.

At the end of the day, it really is just a joke song.

Some jokes are based on real life experiences that are really relatable,

and some jokes are just nonsense for the sake of being weird in a funny way.

Some people prefer one more than the other. I like both.

And yeah, the lyric style is mine and Dan's way of saying "fuck censorship".

When the radio plays songs with one or two swears and cuts those out,

it's quite annoying and I don't understand why it's even necessary at all.

If you can't play it as is, then don't fucking play it, dude.

That's why I write my songs as profane as I can.

If you can't play my songs without ruining them, don't fucking play them.

Simple as that.

The internet needs more artists like you and Dan. Reminds me of the days of old when stuff like that was super common; nowadays it feels like NG is the only major place someone who makes anything even slightly vulgar can succeed anymore.

This band is how I found him and it is a huge inspiration to Killer RAT.

I mean, I am really not the person to consult when it comes to FNF anything because I just couldn’t get behind that game in the first place. There’s a reason I enjoyed Geometry Dash for so many years but tried FNF once only to become frustrated and stop playing after a few days, and it comes down to engagement. I find it hard to attach myself to a 1990s 12-year-old cyan-haired kid because I was too young at that time to want to be like him, and without that initial emotional investment, I failed with regard to continuing to play the game. Also it’s just really stupidly hard for me to play rhythm games.

Yeah the song fits the rest of the music in FNF, but this time with a defined theme which is nice.

The best part by far is the saxophone solo in the middle; that really brings home the theme and helps keep up the energy. Unfortunately the rest doesn’t quite live up to that part, acting more of a supporting role to that part. It does sound like a boss theme, which fits well with the atmosphere.

I love this track so much. It represents a turning point where I learnt that I love focussing on colour, melody and joy, but could make it kinda cool sounding as well. I also remember letting go of the worry about what people think and focussing on what makes me and happy and the client happy. Just a really important track for me, and I still love listening to it!

That one is certainly interesting. I read a review that said the snare feels outdated, and I just don’t agree at all. The samples aren’t the issue, but especially in the second half, the drums do feel a little loud compared to the guitar. Melodies and chords are also really interesting, and I do like the harmonic additions to the choruses. Definitely video-game esc (I think that’s the theme of this forum) but still really well done.
