I don't know what to do with this submission


if I zoom in I can see that there is still something there but the size of it alone is micro

I can click the play button and then the green flash button and there is an animation that is playing, but its 30 pixels by 30 pixels

are the dimensions correct on this submission? it feels very very flat, I still got the thumbnail but I'm wondering if the dimensions should be in the range of a native 1080 pixel height and not in the 380 pixel height as it is now

This one is kinda strange because it does seem to crop more than it should, however if it set the dimensions to standard I can tell it's meant to be cropping what is there. I went with a middleground, doubling the size and making it a little taller. I made a less exciting thumbnail for it, too.

the thumbnail picture i took even with ruffle original quality is 50% with a good quality(this doesn't means HD quality)

i guess i have to redraw it.


because the thumbnail size is 1920x1080 but the animation frame's size doesn't combine with "1920x1080 size"

Updated! BTW, in Ruffle you can right click and set the Flash to fullscreen, which helps a ton with grabbing hi-res thumbnails.

Thumbnail Sizes

I tend to upload thumbnails in the 1920x1080 range. The site generates thumbnails that are 720 wide and 360 wide but we hold on to the source image in case we ever need to go bigger. Our new movie and game thumbnails are a 16:9 aspect ratio. We don't need to upload an image with that exact aspect ratio because the site has a cropper tool, so you don't have to worry about being exact there.

If you're making a thumbnail for old Flash content, often the Flash itself is smaller than 720 wide. In these cases I full screen the Flash before taking a screenshot. Sometimes I'll even zoom in, which requires a Flash player (Ruffle doesn't have a zoom in option at the moment).

This week we started displaying thumbnails in front of Flash content loaded via Ruffle and soon will launch the new movie and game hubs, which will utilize larger thumbnails.

Thank you in advance to everyone who helps out here! Thumbnail updates have always been one of the more daunting aspects of long-term NG maintenance. We like even the oldest stuff to look its best!

I usually create a blank 1920x1080 square, screenshot a full-screen picture and then add it to the blank square without increasing the size of the canvas, I can then drag the picture around to find the best position, add a CENSORED square or modify things if they neeeed to be modified from the original creation of what the uploader posted (to keep things E or T rated)

This week we started displaying thumbnails in front of Flash content loaded via Ruffle and soon will launch the new movie and game hubs, which will utilize larger thumbnails.

Thank you in advance to everyone who helps out here! Thumbnail updates have always been one of the more daunting aspects of long-term NG maintenance. We like even the oldest stuff to look its best!

Featured entries in the Movies portal are a good place to start. (It's where me and tox have been working).


Here's a range of 1 month for you to get started with: https://www.newgrounds.com/movies/featured?sort=date&genre=0&after=2006-01-01&before=2006-02-01

Once you're done with that, move the range 1 month over like so: https://www.newgrounds.com/movies/featured?sort=date&genre=0&after=2006-02-01&before=2006-03-01

(This is how I personally like to work, it helps you keep track of where you've been).


Thumbnails with a low resolution need replacing. Some entries will have crip thumbnails (Tricky Madness 2, Bionic Commando Assault, for example) - those have already been done and can be skipped. Sometimes you'll come across a movie without a thumbnail and those have the highest priority, they look like this:
