I know it's ok to upload remixes of copyrighted stuff if you have permission, but I just can't be bothered to ask F-777 since I don't know of a reliable means of contacting him and I really don't care if I can upload my remix on NG or not :)

Which is why we continue to impress that the only members who should be contacting artists are mods or NG staff. This allows us to properly track verification and not have many people reaching out over the same thing.

Seems I misunderstood the context of the original post. Contacting for permission is fine. There were a bunch of people recently who have reached out to artists to ask about potential stolen or impersonation accounts, which is where my concern is.
