I found an interesting article about the remixes in the context of copyright.
So, summarizing: if you make a remix you need to be allowed to do this by the original author, especially if there is a chance that the remix will be monetized/used in other works.

Covers are ok. Remixes are sketchy. Flat-out uploads are not allowed.
Someone uploads something that's not theirs, we'll remove and ban. Remixes are grey, and require a bit more reviewing to see how much original content is there, and then we act accordingly.
Covers are just a recording of someone singing someone else's song, and that's fine. Everybody sings someone else's songs sometime. If it ever comes to the day when you're walking down the street, singing something, and lawyers jump out and want you to pay royalties for singing that song, then we're all doomed.
These are both just a guy singing a song. ... and, doing a decent job of it.
