Looking good! Though this is quite bothering me.

Haha, good eye. I'll keep that in mind when I do the line art and clean it up. I see what you're talking about. ; )

Getting close. :D It's pretty much ready for background work. There's some ambient lighting you don't see right now on the white background. He's gonna be a space wizard! LOL

Trying to work on my first villain. Any suggestions welcome.

Did another version of my villain, but decided to take it further. However, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. He looks more doggish now than a Lynx I think. I may revert to my earlier one in future illustrations. Higher resolution piece with bio is on my page. Also, character design is TOUGH. I'm very new at this.

I've been stressing out with my character designs and have been OCD trying to get something with some "spark" or "magic". It's all subjective to the person I suppose, but I'm trying to get it right. Here's a Disney inspired redesign of one of my characters...Daphne.

Splashed it with some color for reference (it's rough). The colors could change.

After doing Daphne, I had to redo Enzo in the same style. He's her boss after all. Slightly older, a bit shorter (and fatter), but he's a brain. Daphne however gets frustrated more easily (flying off the handle actually), and Enzo has to constantly keep her in check. :P

Finally returning to Archer for redesign. It's exhausting me, but then I wanted to look back a couple months. I think it's improvement...right? (I'm also not drawing in Flash anymore)

I really like your coloring style, and your character design. My only suggestion is to keep an eye on your proportions, for example the new characters, (the one on the left) has a tiny left arm compared to his right one.

Thanks for the kind words. I absolutely agree with your statements. I don't think I was clear enough, but the picture you're referring from is actually the same character. I'm showing him from drawing him in February to now. Granted, even the current design is going to need some touch ups, but I know what you're saying about the proportions. especially the arms. :D

I see now. My apologies that actually makes a lot more sense. If you'd like though I could do an overdraw later today of somethings you might want to improve to make the character's design stronger while also keeping things nice and anatomically correct-ish.

If you'd like that, could I get an overview of who this character is and what he does?

Re-concepted Archer Sullivan, one of my characters. Bigger version with description is on my page.

Returning to redesigning Ivan. I think I got the face the way I wanted, but his clothes gotta get meaner, and possibly bulk him up a little more. I was thinking a cross between Aladdin's Jafar and Lion King's Scar, but I was told by someone he reminded them of Mushu from Mulan....one of the few Disney films I haven't watched yet. He's based on a Lynx more than a cat...a bit of a "wild" animal.

Oh my god I didn't draw a cat. No...I drew a hipster....actually a diagram. I had to make this for my own well being. You'll want to go to my page and see the full res to read all the text. Learn how to be a hipster in the Magical World of Williamsburg (where I live and work).

Annnnd back to cats. Here's another character I'm working, still in sketch phase. She's supposed to be the mom of the Enzo and Arlo. I've had her backstory for months, but am now drawing her for the first time. I think her name will be Molly (maybe Holly)....not sure.

It's a cute drawing, but the shoulder need be tweaked just a bit.
Mind you, I am far from a pro so you need not take my word for it, but from what I see the spacing may be the problem.
Hope you don't mind redline:

Not at all. I see what you mean. I think some of the changes you made do look anatomically more correct. I will probably make those corrections near the final concept composite. I'm still learning this stuff too, so any pointers are always appreciated. Thank god for sketch phase! :D

One other thing I was thinking about was the left leg (coming towards you). I'm not sure if that looks right, or if I should kick it under her in a mid walking cycle. Something about that leg feels "off" with the weight and balance distribution, but I'm also starring at this drawing too much. :P

Response to fxscreamer's art thread 2014-04-15 01:15:37

I think both feet just needed to be brought down a bit.
Feet are definitely not my forte :<
I would advise that you draw a line under the figure with a ruler or line tool, it really helps in grounding it.

And yes, thank god for sketch phase :D

I did a couple of your red ink changes on the original. I also drew her when she was a field nurse back in the military. I think I'm going to name her Holly.

I won't post all the redo's here, but I definitely wanted to clean up Enzo's scribbled 720p version. The full 1080p line art and color is on my page. I also made him a little bit taller, wishing he was a baller, if he had a girl that looked good, he would call her..........h...here's Enzo, not with a rabbit in a hat with a bat, and a six four Impala.
